1But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I disdained to set with the dogs of my flock.
1Toe vaihi loe kai pongah saning kanawk kaminawk mah ang pahnui o thuih, nihcae ampanawk loe ka panuet moe, tuutoep uinawk hoi nawnto suek han mataeng doeh ka koeh ai.
2Yea, the strength of their hands, whereto should it profit me? men in whom ripe age is perished.
2Ue, nihcae ban thacakhaih loe kai han tidoeh avanghaih om ai, nihcae thacakhaih loe anghmat boih boeh.
3They are gaunt with want and famine; they gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of wasteness and desolation.
3Nihcae loe zok amthlam o pongah, minawk hoi angkom o ai; kami om ai angqai krang praezaek ah ni amhet o.
4They pluck salt-wort with wormwood; and the roots of the broom are their food.
4Kapring thungah phrohnawk to a aah o moe, caak hanah imphok kung tangzun to takaeh o.
5They are driven forth from the midst of men; they cry after them as after a thief.
5Nihcae loe kaminawk ohhaih ahmuen hoiah haek o moe, (kamqu hangh thuih baktih hangh o thuih;)
6In the clefts of the valleys must they dwell, in holes of the earth and of the rocks.
6tahawt thung ih cathaeng khaw thungah oh o moe, longkhaw thung hoi lungsong khaw thungah a oh o.
7Among the bushes they bray; under the nettles they are gathered together.
7Kapring thungah hrang baktiah hangh o moe, soekhring thungah nawnto amkhueng o.
8They are children of churls, yea, children of ignoble men; they were scourged out of the land.
8Nihcae loe kamthu caa ah oh o, ue, khosak kasae kaminawk ih caa ah oh o moe, prae thung hoi haek ih kaminawk ah oh o.
9And now I am become their song, yea, I am a byword unto them.
9Vaihi loe nihcae mah laa ang sak o thuih; ue, nihcae mah kasae thuih ih kami ah ka oh boeh.
10They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.
11For He hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, and they have cast off the bridle before me.
12Upon my right hand rise the brood; they entangle my feet, and they cast up against me their ways of destruction.
12Ka bantang bangah thendoengnawk angthawk o moe, ka khok hae ang cawh o; kai amrohaih loklam to a sak o.
13They break up my path, they further my calamity, even men that have no helper.
13Ka loklam to phraek o moe, kai amtimh hanah azom o; nihcae bomhkung mi doeh om ai.
14As through a wide breach they come; in the midst of the ruin they roll themselves upon me.
14Nihcae loe kalen pui akhaw thungah kakun tui baktiah, kai amrosak hanah tha hoi kai khaeah ang cawnh o.
15Terrors are turned upon me, they chase mine honour as the wind; and my welfare is passed away as a cloud.
15Zitthok hmuennawk to ka nuiah phak moe, takhi song baktiah ka hinghaih hnukah patom o; ka tawnh ih hmuenmae loe tamai baktiah anghmat boeh.
16And now my soul is poured out within me; days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
17In the night my bones are pierced, and fall from me, and my sinews take no rest.
17Aqum mah ka huh hae thunh moe, thaqui kana ka pauep thai ai boeh.
18By the great force of my disease is my garment disfigured; it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.
18Ka nathaih nung parai pongah, kaimah ih khubuen mah zaeng ih baktih toengah, ang zaeng caeng.
19He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.
20I cry unto Thee, and Thou dost not answer me; I stand up, and Thou lookest at me.
21Thou art turned to be cruel to me; with the might of Thy hand Thou hatest me.
22Thou liftest me up to the wind, Thou causest me to ride upon it; and Thou dissolvest my substance.
23For I know that Thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.
24Surely none shall put forth his hand to a ruinous heap, neither because of these things shall help come in one's calamity,
24Sithaw mah amrohaih phaksak hanah ban phok naah, nihcae mah tahmenhaih hni o langla cadoeh, atho om ai boeh.
25If I have not wept for him that was in trouble, and if my soul grieved not for the needy.
25Raihaih tongh kami to ka qah haih ai maw? Amtang kami palung ka sae haih ai maw?
26Yet, when I looked for good, there came evil; and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
26Kahoih hmuen ka zing naah, kasae hmuen to angzoh; aanghaih ka zing naah, vinghaih to angzoh.
27Mine inwards boil, and rest not; days of affliction are come upon me.
27Kai ih pathin loe bet moe, anghakhaih om ai; patangkhanghaih aninawk loe kai tongh hanah angzoh o.
28I go mourning without the sun; I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help.
28Niduem naah palungsethaih hoiah ka oh; kaminawk amkhuenghaih ahmuen ah kang doet moe, ka hang.
29I am become a brother to jackals, and a companion to ostriches.
29Kai loe pahui puinawk ih nawkamya ah ka oh moe, bukbuhnawk ih ampui ah ka oh.
30My skin is black, and falleth from me, and my bones are burned with heat.
30Ka nganhin loe amnum moe, ka huhnawk doeh kabae thuih pa ai boeh.
31Therefore is my harp turned to mourning, and my pipe into the voice of them that weep.
31Kai ih katoeng loe palungsethaih ah angcoeng boeh, kai ih tamoi doeh qahhaih lok ah ni angcoeng ving boeh.
