1私も、メディア人ダリヨスの第一年に、彼を支え、力づけるために立ち上がった。
1And as for me, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I stood up to be a supporter and a stronghold unto him.
2今、私はあなたに真実を告げる。見よ、さらに三人の王がペルシアに起こる。第四の王は、彼らすべてよりもはるかに富む。彼はその富によって強くなると、すべての者を奮い立たせてギリシア王国に立ち向かわせる。
2And now will I declare unto thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all; and when he is waxed strong through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece.
3一人の力ある王が起こり、大きな支配権をもって治め、思いのままに行う。
3And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.
4しかし、彼が立ち上がると、その王国は砕かれ、天の四方に分けられる。それは彼の子孫には継がれず、彼が治めた時の支配権を保つこともない。彼の王国は根こそぎにされ、彼ら以外の者たちに与えられるからである。
4And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; but not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion wherewith he ruled; for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those.
5南の王は強くなる。しかし、その将軍の一人が彼よりも強くなって支配し、その支配は大きな支配となる。
5And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.
6数年の後、両者は同盟を結ぶ。南の王の娘が和解を図って北の王のもとへ行く。しかし彼女は腕の力を保てず、王もその力を保てない。彼女は、自分を連れて来た者たち、自分を生んだ者、その時に彼女を支えた者とともに引き渡される。
6And at the end of years they shall join themselves together; and the daughter of the king of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement; but she shall not retain the strength of her arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm; but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that begot her, and he that obtained her in those times.
7しかし、彼女の根から出た一人が、彼女に代わって立つ。彼は軍隊を率いて進み、北の王の要塞に入り、彼らに立ち向かって勝利する。
7But one of the shoots of her roots shall stand up in his place, and shall come unto the army, and shall enter into the stronghold of the king of the north, and shall deal with them, and shall prevail;
8彼らの神々、鋳造された像、銀と金の美しい器をも捕らえてエジプトへ運び去る。そして数年の間、北の王に手を出さない。
8and also their gods, with their molten images, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold, shall he bring into captivity into Egypt; and he shall desist some years from the king of the north.
9北の王は南の王の国に攻め入るが、自分の国へ帰る。
9And he shall come into the kingdom of the king of the south, but he shall return into his own land.
10その息子たちは戦いを起こし、大軍を集める。その軍勢は押し寄せ、あふれて通り過ぎる。さらに進んで、北の王の要塞にまで戦いを及ぼす。
10And his sons shall stir themselves up, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces, and he shall come on, and overflow, as he passes through; and he shall return and stir himself up, even to his stronghold.
11南の王は怒りに駆られて出陣し、北の王と戦う。北の王は大軍を繰り出すが、その大軍は南の王の手に渡される。
11And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north; and he shall set forth a great multitude, but the multitude shall be given into his hand.
12その大軍が連れ去られると、南の王の心は高ぶる。彼は幾万もの者を倒すが、勝利を保つことはできない。
12and the multitude shall be carried away, and his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down tens of thousands; but he shall not prevail.
13北の王は再び戻り、以前よりも大きな軍勢を繰り出す。数年の時が過ぎた後、大軍と豊富な物資を携えて進軍する。
13And the king of the north shall again set forth a multitude, greater than the former; and he shall come on at the end of the times, even of years, with a great army and with much substance.
14その時、多くの者が南の王に立ち向かう。あなたの民の中の暴虐な者たちも、幻を実現しようとして立ち上がるが、倒れる。
14And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south; also the children of the violent among thy people shall lift themselves up to establish the vision; but they shall stumble.
15北の王は進軍して土塁を築き、堅固な町を攻め取る。南の軍勢は持ちこたえられず、精鋭部隊にも立ち向かう力はない。
15And the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mound, and take a well-fortified city; and the arms of the south shall not withstand; and as for his chosen people, there shall be no strength in them to withstand.
16北の王に攻めかかる者は思いのままに行い、彼の前に立ちはだかる者はいない。彼は麗しい地に立ち、滅びがその手にある。
16But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him; and he shall stand in the beauteous land, and in his hand shall be extermination.
17彼は王国全体の力をもって進もうと決意し、和解の条件を携えて来る。王国を滅ぼそうとして、自分の娘を妻として相手に与える。しかし彼女は彼のために立たず、彼のものにもならない。
17And he shall set his face to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, but shall make an agreement with him; and he shall give him the daughter of women, to destroy it; but it shall not stand, neither be for him.
18その後、彼は島々に向かい、多くを攻め取る。しかし一人の司令官が、彼から受けたそしりをやめさせ、それを彼自身に返す。
18After this shall he set his face unto the isles, and shall take many; but a captain shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; yea, he shall cause his own reproach to return upon him.
19それから彼は自国の要塞に顔を向けるが、つまずいて倒れ、姿を消す。
19Then he shall turn his face toward the strongholds of his own land; but he shall stumble and fall, and shall not be found.
20彼の地位には、王国の栄光ある地に徴税官を行き巡らせる者が立つ。しかし数日のうちに彼は滅ぼされる。それは怒りによるのでも、戦いによるのでもない。
20Then shall stand up in his place one that shall cause an exactor to pass through the glory of the kingdom; but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle.
21彼の地位には、王位の尊厳を与えられていなかった卑しむべき者が立つ。彼は人々が安心している時に来て、へつらいによって王国を手に入れる。
21And in his place shall stand up a contemptible person, upon whom had not been conferred the majesty of the kingdom; but he shall come in time of security, and shall obtain the kingdom by blandishments.
22あふれるような軍勢は彼の前から押し流され、打ち砕かれる。契約の君もまた打ち砕かれる。
22And the arms of the flood shall be swept away from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant.
23彼は同盟を結んだ後も欺きを行い、わずかな民を率いて上り、力を増す。
23And after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully; and he shall come up and become strong, with a little nation.
24人々が安心している時、彼は州の最も豊かな所にまで入り込む。彼は父祖たちも、そのまた父祖たちも行わなかったことを行う。獲物、略奪品、財宝を人々に分け与える。また要塞に対して策略を巡らすが、それは定められた時までである。
24In time of security shall he come even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers: he shall scatter among them prey, and spoil, and substance; yea, he shall devise his devices against fortresses, but only until the time.
25彼は力と勇気を奮い起こし、大軍を率いて南の王に立ち向かう。南の王も非常に大きく強い軍勢を率いて戦うが、持ちこたえることができない。人々が彼に対して策略を巡らすからである。
25And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall stir himself up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand, for they shall devise devices against him.
26彼のごちそうを食べる者たちが彼を滅ぼし、その軍勢は押し流され、多くの者が殺されて倒れる。
26Yea, they that eat of his food shall destroy him, and his army shall be swept away; and many shall fall down slain.
27この二人の王は、どちらも心に悪を抱き、同じ食卓で偽りを語り合う。しかし成功しない。終わりはなお、定められた時に来るからである。
27And as for both these kings, their hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper, for the end remaineth yet for the time appointed.
28それから北の王は多くの財宝を携えて自国へ帰る。その心は聖なる契約に逆らい、思うままに行った後、自国へ帰る。
28And he shall return to his own land with great substance; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do his pleasure, and return to his own land.
29定められた時に、彼は再び南へ攻め入る。しかし今度は、以前の時のようにはならない。
29At the time appointed he shall return, and come into the south; but it shall not be in the latter time as it was in the former.
30キティムの船が彼に立ち向かうので、彼は落胆して引き返す。そして聖なる契約に憤りを抱き、思うままに行う。彼は引き返し、聖なる契約を捨てる者たちに目を留める。
30For ships of Kittim shall come against him, and he shall be cowed, and he shall return, and have indignation against the holy covenant, and shall do his pleasure; and he shall return, and have regard unto them that forsake the holy covenant.
31彼から出た軍勢が、要塞である聖所を汚し、絶えずささげられる全焼のささげ物を取り去る。そして荒廃をもたらす忌まわしいものを立てる。
31And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall profane the sanctuary, even the stronghold, and shall take away the continual burnt-offering, and they shall set up the detestable thing that causeth appalment.
32彼は、契約に背いて悪を行う者たちをへつらいによって堕落させる。しかし、自分たちの神を知る民は堅く立ち、事を行う。
32And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall be corrupt by blandishments; but the people that know their God shall show strength, and prevail.
33民の中の悟りある者たちは、多くの者に理解を与える。しかし彼らは長い間、剣と炎、捕囚と略奪によって倒れる。
33And they that are wise among the people shall cause the many to understand; yet they shall stumble by the sword and by flame, by captivity and by spoil, many days.
34彼らが倒れる時、わずかな助けを受ける。しかし多くの者が、偽りをもって彼らに加わる。
34Now when they shall stumble, they shall be helped with a little help; but many shall join themselves unto them with blandishments.
35悟りある者たちの中にも倒れる者がいる。それは彼らが練られ、清められ、白くされるためであり、終わりの時まで続く。その時はなお、定められた時に来るからである。
35And some of them that are wise shall stumble, to refine among them, and to purify, and to make white, even to the time of the end; for it is yet for the time appointed.
36その王は思いのままに行う。自らを高くし、あらゆる神よりも自分を大いなるものとし、神々の神に逆らって驚くべきことを語る。彼は憤りが成し遂げられるまで成功する。定められたことが行われるからである。
36And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak strange things against the God of gods; and he shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished; for that which is determined shall be done.
37彼は父祖たちの神々にも、女たちが慕うものにも、どの神にも心を留めない。自らをすべてのものよりも大いなるものとするからである。
37Neither shall he regard the gods of his fathers; and neither the desire of women, nor any god, shall he regard; for he shall magnify himself above all.
38その代わりに、彼は要塞の神をあがめる。父祖たちの知らなかった神を、金、銀、宝石、貴重な品々をもってあがめる。
38But in his place shall he honour the god of strongholds; and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and costly things.
39彼は異国の神を頼みとして、最も堅固な要塞を攻める。彼を認める者には大きな栄誉を与え、多くの者を治めさせ、報酬として土地を分配する。
39And he shall deal with the strongest fortresses with the help of a foreign god; whom he shall acknowledge, shall increase glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for a price.
40終わりの時に、南の王が彼と争う。北の王は戦車、騎兵、多くの船を率い、つむじ風のように彼に攻めかかる。彼は国々に侵入し、あふれて通り過ぎる。
40And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him; and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow, as he passes through.
41彼は麗しい地にも侵入し、多くの国々が倒される。しかしエドム、モアブ、アンモンの子らの主だった者たちは、彼の手から逃れる。
41He shall enter also into the beauteous land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall be delivered out of his hand, Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.
42彼は諸国に手を伸ばし、エジプトの地も逃れられない。
42He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries; and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
43彼はエジプトの金銀の財宝と、すべての貴重な品々を支配する。リビア人とエチオピア人も彼の後に従う。
43But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
44しかし東と北からの知らせが彼を悩ませる。彼は激しい怒りをもって出て行き、多くの者を滅ぼし尽くそうとする。
44But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall affright him; and he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to take away many.
45彼は海と麗しい聖なる山との間に王の天幕を張る。しかし、ついに終わりを迎え、彼を助ける者はいない。
45And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the beauteous holy mountain; and he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
