1Israel manghai David capa Solomon kah he,
1The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
2cueihnah ming sak ham neh ol yakmingnah te yakming sak ham thuituennah la om.
2to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;
3Thuituennah la loh ham neh duengnah, tiktamnah neh vanatnah te aka cangbam sak la om.
3to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;
4Camoe hlangyoe taengah mingnah neh thuepnah, khinglangnah aka pae la om.
4to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man—
5Aka cueih loh hnatun saeh lamtah rhingtuknah la thap thil saeh, aka yakming loh a niing la hol saeh.
5that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel;
6Aka cueih rhoek kah, nuettahnah olka neh amih kah olkael aka yakming sak la om.
6to understand a proverb and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.
7BOEIPA hinyahnah tah cueihnah, mingnah a tongnah la om tih aka ang loh thuituennah a hnoelrhoeng.
7The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
8Ka ca aw na pa kah thuituennah he hnatun lamtah na nu kah olkhueng khaw tloeng sut boeh.
8My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching;
9Te te na lu ham mikdaithen kah lukhueng neh na rhawn ham oi la om.
9for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck.
10Ka ca nang te hlangtholh rhoek loh n'hloih cakhaw rhoih boeh.
10My son, if sinners entice you, don’t consent.
11“Kaimih taengah pongpa lamtah hlang thii te rhongngol thil sih, ommongsitoe te a tloengtlaih la dawn sih.
11If they say, “Come with us. Let’s lie in wait for blood. Let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause.
12Amih te saelkhui bangla a hing la dolh sih lamtah tangrhom ah a pum la a cungpung bangla om saeh.
12Let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down into the pit.
13A boei a rhaeng boeih neh a phu aka tlo te n'dang uh vetih mamih im he kutbuem neh m'baetawt sak mako.
13We’ll find all valuable wealth. We’ll fill our houses with plunder.
14Na hmulung te kaimih lakli ah naan lamtah mamih boeih ham sungsa pakhat la om saeh,” a ti uh atah,
14You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse”—
15Ka ca aw, amih kah longpuei ah cet boel lamtah na kho te amih kah a hawn lamloh hoi lah.
15my son, don’t walk on the path with them. Keep your foot from their path,
16Amih kah a kho tah boethae hamla cungpoeh uh tih thii long sak ham loe uh.
16for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.
17Vaa phae boeih kah a hmaiah a tloengtlaih la lawk a tung uh.
17For the net is spread in vain in the sight of any bird;
18Amih loh amamih kah a thii te a rhongngol thil uh tih a hinglu te a mae uh.
18but these lay in wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.
19Mueluemnah dongah aka mueluem boeih kah a khosing te tah a boei kah a hinglu ni a rhawt pah.
19So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.
20Cueihnah tah vongvoel ah tamhoe tih toltung ah a ol a huel.
20Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.
21Thohka ah aka kawk rhoek kah a lu ah a pang pah tih khopuei vongka ah ol a thui.
21She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:
22Hlangyoe nang loh mevaeng hil nim hlangyoe na lungnah ve, hmuiyoi rhoek tah amamih kah saipaat dongah naep uh tih, aka ang rhoek loh mingnah te a hmuhuet uh.
22“How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?
23Ka toelthamnah he mael thil lah, ka mueihla he nang hamla kan thaa saeh lamtah ka ol he khaw nang kam ming sak eh.
23Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.
24Kang khue vaengah na aal uh tih ka kut kan cavaih vaengah nim te hnatung uh pawh.
24Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;
25Kai kah cilsuep boeih te na dul uh tih, kai kah toelthamnah khaw na ngaih uh pawh.
25but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;
26Kai khaw nangmih kah rhainah te ka nueih thil vetih nangmih ah birhihnah a thoeng vaengah kan tamdaeng ni.
26I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you,
27Nangmih kah birhihnah tah khohli rhamrhael bangla ha pawk vetih na rhainah loh cangpalam bangla halo vaengah, citcai neh khobing loh nangmih te m'paan vaengah,
27when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you.
28Kai ng'khue uh cakhaw ka doo mahpawh, kai n'toem uh cakhaw m'hmu uh bal mahpawh.
28Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me,
29Te yueng te mingnah a hmuhuet uh tih BOEIPA kah hinyahnah te tuek uh pawh.
29because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of the LORD.
30Kai cilsuep dongah naep uh pawt tih, kai kah toelthamnah khaw boeih a tlaitlaek uh.
30They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.
31A khosing kah a thaih te a caak uh vetih a cilkhih loh a lawn uh bitni.
31Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.
32Hlangyoe hnuknong loh amih te a ngawn vetih aka ang kah ommongnah loh amih te a milh sak ni.
32For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.
33Tedae kai taengah aka hnatun long tah ngaikhuek la kho a sak vetih yoethae kah birhihnah khuiah khaw rhalthal van ni.
33But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”
