1Then Eliphaz the Themanite answered, and said:
1提幔 人 以利法 回答說：
2If we begin to speak to thee, perhaps thou wilt take it ill, but who can withhold the words he hath conceived?
2人若想與你說話，你就厭煩嗎？ 但誰能忍住不說呢？
3Behold thou hast taught many, and thou hast strengthened the weary hands:
3你素來教導許多的人， 又堅固軟弱的手。
4Thy words have confirmed them that were staggering, and thou hast strengthened the trembling knees:
4你的言語曾扶助那將要跌倒的人； 你又使軟弱的膝穩固。
5But now the scourge is come upon thee, and thou faintest: it hath touched thee, and thou art troubled.
5但現在禍患臨到你，你就昏迷， 挨近你，你便驚惶。
6Where is thy fear, thy fortitude, thy patience, and the perfection of thy ways?
6你的倚靠不是在你敬畏 上帝 嗎？ 你的盼望不是在你行事純正嗎？
7Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished being innocent? or when were the just destroyed?
7請你追想：無辜的人有誰滅亡？ 正直的人在何處剪除？
8On the contrary I have seen those who work iniquity, and sow sorrows, and reap them,
8按我所見，耕罪孽、種毒害的人 都照樣收割。
9Perishing by the blast of God, and consumed by the spirit of his wrath.
9上帝一出氣，他們就滅亡； 上帝一發怒，他們就消沒。
10The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the lioness, and the teeth of the whelps of lions are broken:
10獅子的吼叫和猛獅的聲音 盡都止息 ； 少壯獅子的牙齒也都敲掉。
11The tiger hath perished for want of prey, and the young lions are scattered abroad.
11老獅子因絕食而死； 母獅之子也都離散。
12Now there was a word spoken to me in private, and my ears by stealth as it were received the veins of its whisper.
12我暗暗地得了默示； 我耳朵也聽其細微的聲音。
13In the horror of a vision by night, when deep sleep is wont to hold men,
13在思念夜中、異象之間， 世人沉睡的時候，
14Fear seized upon me, and trembling, and all my bones were affrighted:
14恐懼、戰兢臨到我身， 使我百骨打戰。
15And when a spirit passed before me, the hair of my flesh stood up.
15有靈從我面前經過， 我身上的毫毛直立。
16There stood one whose countenance I knew not, an image before my eyes, and I heard the voice as it were of a gentle wind:
16那靈停住， 我卻不能辨其形狀； 有影像在我眼前。 我在靜默中聽見有聲音 說 ：
17Shall man be justified in comparison of God, or shall a man be more pure than his maker?
17必死的人豈能比上帝公義嗎？ 人豈能比造他的主潔淨嗎？
18Behold they that serve him are not steadfast, and in his angels he found wickedness:
18主不信靠他的臣僕， 並且指他的使者為愚昧；
19How much more shall they that dwell in houses of clay, who have an earthly foundation, be consumed as with the moth?
19何況那住在土房、根基在塵土裏、 被蠹蟲所毀壞的人呢？
20From morning till evening they shall be cut down: and because no one understandeth, they shall perish for ever.
20早晚之間，就被毀滅， 永歸無有，無人理會。
21And they that shall be left, shall be taken away from them: they shall die, and not in wisdom.
21他帳棚的繩索豈不從中抽出來呢？ 他死，且是無智慧而死。
