1Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel, for the Lord shall enter into judgment with the inhabitants of the land: for there is no truth, and there is no mercy, and there is no knowledge of God in the land.
1Слухайте слово Господнє, Ізраїлські дїти! бо (готовий) суд у Господа з осадниками сієї землї; нема бо нї правди, нї милосердя, анї знання Бога на землї.
2Cursing, and lying, and killing, and theft, and adultery have overflowed, and blood hath touched blood.
2Лихословство й лож, душогубство й крадежі та перелюбство розширились вельми, а пролив крові йде за проливом крові.
3Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth in it shall languish with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of the air: yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be gathered together.
3Тим то заплаче ся земля, і вмлївати муть усї, що на нїй живуть, разом із зьвірями в полї й птаством під небом, ба й риба у морі загине.
4But yet let not any man judge: and let not a man be rebuked: for thy people are as they that contradict the priest.
4Та ще й не докоряй нїхто, не гудь нїхто другого! твій нарід (сподуфалий) — як той, що з сьвященником до сварки стає.
5And thou shalt fall today, and the prophet also shall fall with thee: in the night I have made thy mother to be silent.
5Сам ти вдень упадеш, а вночі й пророк твій, та й матїр твою погублю.
6My people have been silent, because they had no knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will reject thee, that thou shalt not do the office of priesthood to me: and thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.
6А вигублений буде нарід мій за незнаннє (закону); та як ти відкинув знаннє, так і я відкину тебе од сьвященничої служби передо мною; та як ти забув про закон Бога твого, так і я забуду про дїтей твоїх.
7According to the multitude of them so have they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame.
7Чим більше їх намножуєсь, тим більше й грішать вони проти мене; за те ж я честь їх оберну в безчесть.
8They shall eat the sins of my people, and shall lift up their souls to their iniquity.
8Харч добувають вони з гріхів мого люду, й до беззаконностї його змагає душа їх.
9And there shall be like people like priest: and I will visit their ways upon them, and I will repay them their devices.
9Тим же то — що буде з народом, те й з сьвященником; скараю його після доріг його, й заплачу йому після вчинків його.
10And they shall eat and shall not be filled: they have committed fornication, and have not ceased: because they have forsaken the Lord in not observing his law.
10Будуть їсти, та й ситі не будуть, будуть блудувати, та й не намножаться, бо покинули службу Господеві.
11Fornication, and wine, and drunkenness take away the understanding.
11Блуд і вино та напої відбирають у них розум.
12My people have consulted their stocks, and their staff hath declared unto them: for the spirit of fornication hath deceived them, and they have committed fornication against their God.
12Люд мій питається в дерева свого, й палиця його дає відповідь йому; дух бо блудництва завів їх на безпуття, й, блудуючи, одступили вони од Бога свого.
13They offered sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burnt incense upon the hills: under the oak, and the poplar, and the turpentine tree, because the shadow thereof was good: therefore shall your daughters commit fornication, and your spouses shall be adulteresses.
13По верховинах приносять вони жертви, по узгіррях палять кадило під дубом, тополею й теребинтом, бо вони принадну тїнь собою дають; тим то й розпустують дочки ваші й перелюбкують молодицї ваші.
14I will not visit upon your daughters when they shell commit fornication, and upon your spouses when they shall commit adultery: because themselves conversed with harlots, and offered sacrifice with the effeminate, and the people that doth not understand shall be beaten.
14Та я й не гадаю карати дочок ваших, що вони розпустують, анї жінок ваших, що вони блудують, ви ж бо самі побіч нетрібок та розпустників приносите жертви, а нетямущий нарід погибає.
15If thou play the harlot, O Israel, at least let not Juda offend: and go ye not into Galgal, and come not up into Bethaven, and do not swear: The Lord liveth.
15Коли вже ти, Ізраїлю, блудуєш, то нехай би хоч ти, Юдо, не грішив; ой не ходїте в Галгал, не йдїть у Бет-Авен, та й не кленїтесь: Як жив Господь.
16For Israel hath gone astray like a wanton heifer: now will the Lord feed them, as a lamb in a spacious place.
16Бо Ізраїль — упиряка, як дурна корова; то ж чи може тепер Господь пасти їх, як овець, по лугах широких?
17Ephraim is a partaker with idols, let him alone.
17Застряв Ефраїм у віру ідолську; — понехай його!
18Their banquet is separated, they have gone astray by fornication: they that should have protected them have loved to bring shame upon them.
18Гіркі їх упої, блудництву вони зовсїм оддались; та й князї їх любуються в мерзотах.
19The wind hath bound them up in its wings, and they shall be confounded because of their sacrifices.
19Вхопить їх буря на крила свої; за жертви їх стид їх окриє.
