1耶和華對 約書亞 說：「不要懼怕，也不要驚惶。你起來，率領一切兵丁上 艾 城去，我已經把 艾 城的王和他的民、他的城，並他的地，都交在你手裏。
1And the LORD said unto Joshua: 'Fear not, neither be thou dismayed; take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land.
2你怎樣待 耶利哥 和 耶利哥 的王，也當照樣待 艾 城和 艾 城的王。只是城內所奪的財物和牲畜，你們可以取為自己的掠物。你要在城後設下伏兵。」
2And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho and her king; only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto yourselves; set thee an ambush for the city behind it.'
3於是， 約書亞 和一切兵丁都起來，要上 艾 城去。 約書亞 選了三萬大能的勇士，夜間打發他們前往，
3So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai; and Joshua chose out thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valour, and sent them forth by night.
4吩咐他們說：「你們要在城後埋伏，不可離城太遠，都要各自準備。
4And he commanded them, saying: 'Behold, ye shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city; go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready.
5我與我所帶領的眾民要向城前往。城裏的人像初次出來攻擊我們的時候，我們就在他們面前逃跑，
5And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city; and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.
6他們必出來追趕我們，直到我們引誘他們離開城；因為他們必說：『這些人像初次在我們面前逃跑。』所以我們要在他們面前逃跑，
6And they will come out after us, till we have drawn them away from the city; for they will say: They flee before us, as at the first; so we will flee before them.
7你們就從埋伏的地方起來，奪取那城，因為耶和華－你們的上帝必把城交在你們手裏。
7And ye shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city; for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
8你們奪了城以後，就放火燒城，要照耶和華的話行。這是我吩咐你們的。」
8And it shall be, when ye have seized upon the city, that ye shall set the city on fire; according to the word of the LORD shall ye do; see, I have commanded you.'
9約書亞 打發他們前往，他們就上埋伏的地方去，住在 伯特利 和 艾 城的中間，就是在 艾 城的西邊。這夜 約書亞 卻在民中住宿。
9And Joshua sent them forth; and they went to the ambushment, and abode between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua lodged that night among the people.
10約書亞 清早起來，點齊百姓，他和 以色列 的長老在百姓前面上 艾 城去。
10And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
11眾民，就是他所帶領的兵丁，都上去，向前直往，來到城前，在 艾 城北邊安營。在 約書亞 和 艾 城中間有一山谷。
11And all the people, even the men of war that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of Ai — now there was a valley between him and Ai.
12他挑了約有五千人，使他們埋伏在 伯特利 和 艾 城的中間，就是在 艾 城的西邊，
12And he took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of Ai.
13於是安置了百姓，就是城北的全軍和城西的伏兵。這夜 約書亞 進入山谷之中。
13So the people set themselves in array, even all the host that was on the north of the city, their rear lying in wait on the west of the city; and Joshua went that night into the midst of the vale.
14艾 城的王看見 這景況 ，就和全城的人，清早急忙起來，按所定的時候，出到 亞拉巴 前，要與 以色列 人交戰；王卻不知道在城後有伏兵。
14And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that the men of the city hastened and rose up early and went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, in front of the Arabah; but he knew not that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
15約書亞 和 以色列 眾人在他們面前裝敗，往那通曠野的路逃跑。
15And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
16城內的眾民都被招聚，追趕他們； 艾 城人追趕的時候，就被引誘離開城。
16And all the people that were in Ai were called together to pursue after them; and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
17艾 城和 伯特利 城沒有一人不出來追趕 以色列 人的，撇了敞開的城門，去追趕 以色列 人。
17And there was not a man left in Ai or Beth-el, that went not out after Israel; and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.
18耶和華吩咐 約書亞 說：「你向 艾 城伸出手裏的短槍，因為我要將城交在你手裏。」 約書亞 就向城伸出手裏的短槍。
18And the LORD said unto Joshua: 'Stretch out the javelin that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thy hand.' And Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.
19他一伸手，伏兵就從埋伏的地方急忙起來，奪了城，跑進城去，放火焚燒。
19And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and entered into the city, and took it; and they hastened and set the city on fire.
20艾 城的人回頭一看，不料，城中煙氣沖天，他們就無力向左向右逃跑。那往曠野逃跑的百姓便轉身攻擊追趕他們的人。
20And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way; and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.
21約書亞 和 以色列 眾人見伏兵已經奪了城，城中煙氣飛騰，就轉身回去，擊殺 艾 城的人。
21And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned back, and slew the men of Ai.
22伏兵也出城迎擊 艾 城人， 艾 城人就困在 以色列 人中間，前後都是 以色列 人。於是 以色列 人擊殺他們，沒有留下一個，也沒有一個逃脫的，
22And the other came forth out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side; and they smote them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
23生擒了 艾 城的王，將他解到 約書亞 那裏。
23And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.
24以色列 人在田間和曠野殺盡所追趕一切 艾 城的居民。 艾 城人倒在刀下，直到滅盡； 以色列 眾人就回到 艾 城，用刀殺了城中的人。
24And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, even in the wilderness wherein they pursued them, and they were all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all Israel returned unto Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
25當日殺斃的人，連男帶女共有一萬二千，就是 艾 城所有的人。
25And all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.
26約書亞 沒有收回手裏所伸出來的短槍，直到把 艾 城的一切居民盡行殺滅。
26For Joshua drew not back his hand, wherewith he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27惟獨城中的牲畜和財物， 以色列 人都取為自己的掠物，是照耶和華所吩咐 約書亞 的話。
27Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey unto themselves, according unto the word of the LORD which He commanded Joshua.
28約書亞 將 艾 城焚燒，使城永為高堆、荒場，直到今日；
28So Joshua burnt Ai, and made it a heap for ever, even a desolation, unto this day.
29又將 艾 城王掛在樹上，直到晚上。日落的時候， 約書亞 吩咐人把屍首從樹上取下來，丟在城門口，在屍首上堆成一大堆石頭，直存到今日。
29And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until the eventide; and at the going down of the sun Joshua commanded, and they took his carcass down from the tree, and cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised thereon a great heap of stones, unto this day.
30那時， 約書亞 在 以巴路山 上為耶和華－ 以色列 的上帝築一座壇，
30Then Joshua built an altar unto the LORD, the God of Israel, in mount Ebal,
31是用沒有動過鐵器的整石頭築的，照着耶和華僕人 摩西 所吩咐 以色列 人的話，正如 摩西 律法書上所寫的。眾人在這壇上給耶和華奉獻燔祭和平安祭。
31as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of unhewn stones, upon which no man had lifted up any iron; and they offered thereon burnt-offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace-offerings.
32約書亞 在那裏，當着 以色列 人面前，將 摩西 所寫的律法抄寫在石頭上。
32And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote before the children of Israel.
33以色列 眾人，無論是本地人、是寄居的，和長老、官長，並審判官，都站在 約 櫃兩旁，在抬耶和華約櫃的祭司 利未 人面前，一半對着 基利心山 ，一半對着 以巴路山 ，為 以色列 民祝福，正如耶和華僕人 摩西 先前所吩咐的。
33And all Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, as well the stranger as the home-born; half of them in front of mount Gerizim and half of them in front of mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel.
34隨後， 約書亞 將律法上祝福、咒詛的話，照着律法書上一切所寫的，都宣讀了一遍。
34And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
35摩西 所吩咐的一切話， 約書亞 在 以色列 全會眾和婦女、孩子，並他們中間寄居的外人面前，沒有一句不宣讀的。
35There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that walked among them.
