1當下， 嫩 的兒子 約書亞 從 什亭 暗暗打發兩個人作探子，吩咐說：「你們去窺探那地和 耶利哥 。」於是二人去了，來到一個妓女名叫 喇合 的家裏，就在那裏躺臥。
1And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two spies secretly, saying: 'Go view the land, and Jericho.' And they went, and came into the house of a harlot whose name was Rahab, and lay there.
2有人告訴 耶利哥 王說：「今夜有 以色列 人來到這裏窺探此地。」
2And it was told the king of Jericho, saying: 'Behold, there came men in hither to-night of the children of Israel to search out the land.'
3耶利哥 王打發人去見 喇合 說：「那來到你這裏、進了你家的人要交出來，因為他們來窺探全地。」
3And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying: 'Bring forth the men that are come to thee, that are entered into thy house; for they are come to search out all the land.'
4女人將二人隱藏，就回答說：「那人果然到我這裏來；他們是哪裏來的我卻不知道。
4And the woman took the two men, and hid them; and she said: 'Yea, the men came unto me, but I knew not whence they were;
5天黑、要關城門的時候，他們出去了，往哪裏去我卻不知道。你們快快地去追趕，就必追上。」（
5and it came to pass about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out; whither the men went I know not; pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.'
6先是女人領二人上了房頂，將他們藏在那裏所擺的麻稭中。）
6But she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had spread out upon the roof.
7那些人就往 約旦河 的渡口追趕他們去了。追趕他們的人一出去，城門就關了。
7And the men pursued after them the way to the Jordan unto the fords; and as soon as they that pursued after them were gone out, the gate was shut.
8二人還沒有躺臥，女人就上房頂，到他們那裏，
8And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
9對他們說：「我知道耶和華已經把這地賜給你們，並且因你們的緣故我們都驚慌了。這地的一切居民在你們面前 心 都消化了；
9and she said unto the men: 'I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.
10因為我們聽見你們出 埃及 的時候，耶和華怎樣在你們前面使 紅海 的水乾了，並且你們怎樣待 約旦河 東的兩個 亞摩利 王 西宏 和 噩 ，將他們盡行毀滅。
10For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, unto Sihon and to Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11我們一聽見這些事，心就消化了。因你們的緣故，並無一人有膽氣。耶和華－你們的上帝本是上天下地的上帝。
11And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you; for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.
12現在我既是恩待你們，求你們指着耶和華向我起誓，也要恩待我父家，並給我一個實在的證據，
12Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have dealt kindly with you, that ye also will deal kindly with my father's house — and give me a true token —
13要救活我的父母、弟兄、姊妹，和一切屬他們的，拯救我們性命不死。」
13and save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.'
14二人對她說：「你若不洩漏我們這件事，我們情願替你們死。耶和華將這地賜給我們的時候，我們必以慈愛誠實待你。」
14And the men said unto her: 'Our life for yours, if ye tell not this our business; and it shall be, when the LORD giveth us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.'
15於是女人用繩子將二人從窗戶裏縋下去；因她的房子是在城牆邊上，她也住在城牆上。
15Then she let them down by a cord through the window; for her house was upon the side of the wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
16她對他們說：「你們且往山上去，恐怕追趕的人碰見你們；要在那裏隱藏三天，等追趕的人回來，然後才可以走你們的路。」
16And she said unto them: 'Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers light upon you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned; and afterward may ye go your way.'
17二人對她說：「 你要這樣行 。 不然 ，你叫我們所起的誓就與我們無干了。
17And the men said unto her: 'We will be guiltless of this thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.
18我們來到這地的時候，你要把這條朱紅線繩繫在縋我們下去的窗戶上，並要使你的父母、弟兄，和你父的全家都聚集在你家中。
18Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by; and thou shalt gather unto thee into the house thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household.
19凡出了你家門往街上去的，他的罪 必歸到自己的頭上，與我們無干了。凡在你家裏的，若有人下手害他，流他血的罪就歸到我們的頭上。
19And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless; and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
20你若洩漏我們這件事，你叫我們所起的誓就與我們無干了。」
20But if thou utter this our business, then we will be guiltless of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.'
21女人說：「照你們的話行吧！」於是打發他們去了，又把朱紅線繩繫在窗戶上。
21And she said: 'According unto your words, so be it.' And she sent them away, and they departed; and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
22二人到山上，在那裏住了三天，等着追趕的人回去了。追趕的人一路找他們，卻找不着。
22And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned; and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
23二人就下山回來，過了 河 ，到 嫩 的兒子 約書亞 那裏，向他述說所遭遇的一切事；
23Then the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun; and they told him all that had befallen them.
24又對 約書亞 說：「耶和華果然將那全地交在我們手中；那地的一切居民在我們面前 心 都消化了。」
24And they said unto Joshua: 'Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; and moreover all the inhabitants of the land do melt away before us.'
