1約瑟 被帶下 埃及 去。有一個 埃及 人，是法老的內臣－護衛長 波提乏 ，從那些帶下他來的 以實瑪利 人手下買了他去。
1And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hand of the Ishmaelites, that had brought him down thither.
2約瑟 住在他主人 埃及 人的家中，耶和華與他同在，他就百事順利。
2And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
3他主人見耶和華與他同在，又見耶和華使他手裏所辦的盡都順利，
3And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
4約瑟 就在主人眼前蒙恩，伺候他主人，並且主人派他管理家務，把一切所有的都交在他手裏。
4And Joseph found favour in his sight, and he ministered unto him. And he appointed him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
5自從主人派 約瑟 管理家務和他一切所有的，耶和華就因 約瑟 的緣故賜福與那 埃及 人的家；凡家裏和田間一切所有的都蒙耶和華賜福。
5And it came to pass from the time that he appointed him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had, in the house and in the field.
6波提乏 將一切所有的都交在 約瑟 的手中，除了自己所吃的飯，別的事一概不知。 約瑟 原來秀雅俊美。
6And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and, having him, he knew not aught save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was of beautiful form, and fair to look upon.
7這事以後， 約瑟 主人的妻以目送情給 約瑟 ，說：「你與我同寢吧！」
7And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said: 'Lie with me.'
8約瑟 不從，對他主人的妻說：「看哪，一切家務，我主人都不知道；他把所有的都交在我手裏。
8But he refused, and said unto his master's wife: 'Behold, my master, having me, knoweth not what is in the house, and he hath put all that he hath into my hand;
9在這家裏沒有比我大的；並且他沒有留下一樣不交給我，只留下了你，因為你是他的妻子。我怎能作這大惡，得罪上帝呢？」
9he is not greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?'
10後來她天天和 約瑟 說， 約瑟 卻不聽從她，不與她同寢，也不和她在一處。
10And it came to pass, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.
11有一天， 約瑟 進屋裏去辦事，家中人沒有一個在那屋裏，
11And it came to pass on a certain day, when he went into the house to do his work, and there was none of the men of the house there within,
12婦人就拉住他的衣裳，說：「你與我同寢吧！」 約瑟 把衣裳丟在婦人手裏，跑到外邊去了。
12that she caught him by his garment, saying: 'Lie with me.' And he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
13婦人看見 約瑟 把衣裳丟在她手裏跑出去了，
13And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,
14就叫了家裏的人來，對他們說：「你們看！他帶了一個 希伯來 人進入我們家裏，要戲弄我們。他到我這裏來，要與我同寢，我就大聲喊叫。
14that she called unto the men of her house, and spoke unto them, saying: 'See, he hath brought in a Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice.
15他聽見我放聲喊起來，就把衣裳丟在我這裏，跑到外邊去了。」
15And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and fled, and got him out.'
16婦人把 約瑟 的衣裳放在自己那裏，等着他主人回家，
16And she laid up his garment by her, until his master came home.
17就對他如此如此說：「你所帶到我們這裏的那 希伯來 僕人進來要戲弄我，
17And she spoke unto him according to these words, saying: 'The Hebrew servant, whom thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me.
18我放聲喊起來，他就把衣裳丟在我這裏，跑出去了。」
18And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and fled out.'
19約瑟 的主人聽見他妻子對他所說的話，說「你的僕人如此如此待我」，他就生氣，
19And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke unto him, saying: 'After this manner did thy servant to me'; that his wrath was kindled.
20把 約瑟 下在監裏，就是王的囚犯被囚的地方。於是 約瑟 在那裏坐監。
20And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were bound; and he was there in the prison.
21但耶和華與 約瑟 同在，向他施恩，使他在司獄的眼前蒙恩。
21But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed kindness unto him, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
22司獄就把監裏所有的囚犯都交在 約瑟 的手下；他們在那裏所辦的事都是經他的手。
22And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.
23凡在 約瑟 手下的事，司獄一概不察，因為耶和華與 約瑟 同在；耶和華使他所做的盡都順利。
23The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand, because the LORD was with him; and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.
