1以色列 人住在 什亭 ，百姓与 摩押 女子行起淫乱。
1And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit harlotry with the daughters of Moab.
2因为这女子叫百姓来，一同给她们的神献祭，百姓就吃 她们的祭物 ，跪拜她们的神。
2And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods; and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
3以色列 人与 巴力·毗珥 连合，耶和华的怒气就向 以色列 人发作。
3And Israel joined himself unto the Baal of Peor; and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.
4耶和华吩咐 摩西 说：「将百姓中所有的族长在我面前对着日头悬挂，使我向 以色列 人所发的怒气可以消了。」
4And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up unto the LORD in face of the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel.'
5于是 摩西 吩咐 以色列 的审判官说：「凡属你们的人，有与 巴力·毗珥 连合的，你们各人要把他们杀了。」
5And Moses said unto the judges of Israel: 'Slay ye every one his men that have joined themselves unto the Baal of Peor.'
6摩西 和 以色列 全会众正在会幕门前哭泣的时候，谁知，有 以色列 中的一个人，当他们眼前，带着一个 米甸 女人到他弟兄那里去。
6And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.
7祭司 亚伦 的孙子， 以利亚撒 的儿子 非尼哈 看见了，就从会中起来，手里拿着枪，
7And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand.
8跟随那 以色列 人进亭子里去，便将 以色列 人和那女人由腹中刺透。这样，在 以色列 人中瘟疫就止息了。
8And he went after the man of Israel into the chamber, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
9那时遭瘟疫死的，有二万四千人。
9And those that died by the plague were twenty and four thousand.
10耶和华晓谕 摩西 说：
10And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
11「祭司 亚伦 的孙子， 以利亚撒 的儿子 非尼哈 ，使我向 以色列 人所发的怒消了；因他在他们中间，以我的忌邪为心，使我不在忌邪中把他们除灭。
11'Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned My wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was very jealous for My sake among them, so that I consumed not the children of Israel in My jealousy.
12因此，你要说：『我将我平安的约赐给他。
12Wherefore say: Behold, I give unto him My covenant of peace;
13这约要给他和他的后裔，作为永远当祭司职任的约；因他为 神有忌邪的心，为 以色列 人赎罪。』」
13and it shall be unto him, and to his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.'
14那与 米甸 女人一同被杀的 以色列 人，名叫 心利 ，是 撒路 的儿子，是 西缅 一个宗族的首领。
14Now the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers' house among the Simeonites.
15那被杀的 米甸 女人，名叫 哥斯比 ，是 苏珥 的女儿；这 苏珥 是 米甸 一个宗族的首领。
15And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head of the people of a fathers' house in Midian.
16耶和华晓谕 摩西 说：
16And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
17「你要扰害 米甸 人，击杀他们；
17'Harass the Midianites, and smite them;
18因为他们用诡计扰害你们，在 毗珥 的事上和他们的姊妹、 米甸 首领的女儿 哥斯比 的事上，用这诡计诱惑了你们；这 哥斯比 ，当瘟疫流行的日子，因 毗珥 的事被杀了。」
18for they harass you, by their wiles wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.'
