1Ko au ko e tangata kuo mamata ki he mamahi ʻi he meʻa tā ʻa hono houhau.
1I am the man who has seen affliction under the rod of God’s wrath.
2Kuo ne tataki au mo ʻomi au ki he poʻuli, kae ʻikai ki he maama.
2He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness instead of light.
3Ko e moʻoni kuo ne liliu kiate au, ʻoku ne liliu hono nima kiate au ʻi he ʻaho kotoa.
3Indeed, He keeps turning His hand against me all day long.
4Ko hoku kili mo hoku kakano kuo ne ngaohi ke motuʻa; kuo ne fesiʻi hoku ngaahi hui.
4He has worn away my flesh and skin; He has shattered my bones.
5Kuo ne langaʻi meʻa kiate au, pea kuo ne takatakai au ʻaki ʻae kona mo e mamahi.
5He has besieged me and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship.
6Kuo ne fokotuʻu au ʻi he ngaahi potu fakapoʻuli, ʻo hangē ko kinautolu naʻe pekia ʻi muʻa.
6He has made me dwell in darkness like those dead for ages.
7Kuo ne ʻāʻi takatakai au pea ʻoku ʻikai te u faʻa hao kituʻa: kuo ne fakamamafa ʻa ʻeku haʻi ukamea.
7He has walled me in so I cannot escape; He has weighed me down with chains.
8ʻO kau ka tangi foki mo kalanga, ʻoku ne taʻetokangaʻi ʻeku kole.
8Even when I cry out and plead for help, He shuts out my prayer.
9Kuo ne ʻāʻi hoku ngaahi hala ʻaki ʻae ngaahi maka kuo tā, kuo ne fakapikoʻi hoku ngaahi hala.
9He has barred my ways with cut stones; He has made my paths crooked.
10Naʻa ne hangē ha pea ʻoku toitoi kiate au, pea hangē ha laione ʻi he ngaahi potu lilo.
10He is a bear lying in wait, a lion hiding in ambush.
11Kuo ne mimioʻi hoku ngaahi ʻaluʻanga, pea kuo ne haehae au fakaikiiki: kuo ne ngaohi au ke lala pe.
11He forced me off my path and tore me to pieces; He left me without help.
12Kuo ne teke ʻa ʻene kaufana, pea kuo ne fokotuʻu au ko e fakaʻilonga ki he ngahau.
12He bent His bow and set me as the target for His arrow.
13Kuo ne pule ki he ngaahi ngahau ʻo ʻene tangai ke ʻasi ki hoku ngaahi kongaloto.
13He pierced my kidneys with His arrows.
14Ko e manukiʻanga au ki hoku kakai; pea ko ʻenau tāʻanga ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē.
14I am a laughingstock to all my people; they mock me in song all day long.
15Kuo ne fakafonu au ʻaki ʻae kona, kuo ne fakakonaʻi au ʻaki ʻae konaʻiʻī.
15He has filled me with bitterness; He has intoxicated me with wormwood.
16Kuo ne fesiʻi foki hoku kau nifo ʻaki ʻae kilikili, kuo ne pani au ʻaki ʻae efu.
16He has ground my teeth with gravel and trampled me in the dust.
17Pea kuo ke hiki hoku laumālie ke mamaʻo mei he melino: naʻe ngalo ʻiate au ʻae monūʻia.
17My soul has been deprived of peace; I have forgotten what prosperity is.
18Pea ne u pehē, “Ko ʻeku mālohi mo ʻeku ʻamanaki kuo ʻauha meia Sihova;”
18So I say, “My strength has perished, along with my hope from the LORD.”
19ʻI heʻeku manatu ki hoku mahaki pea mo ʻeku mamahi, ʻae kona pea mo e ʻahu.
19Remember my affliction and wandering, the wormwood and the gall.
20ʻOku kei manatu ki ai hoku laumālie, pea ʻoku angavaivai ia ʻiate au.
20Surely my soul remembers and is humbled within me.
21Ko ia ʻoku ou fakamanatu ki hoku loto, pea ko ia ʻoku ou kei maʻu ai ʻae ʻamanaki.
21Yet I call this to mind, and therefore I have hope:
22Ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻaloʻofa ʻa Sihova ʻoku ʻikai te tau ʻauha, koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai ke ngata ʻene manavaʻofa.
22Because of the loving devotion of the LORD we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail.
23ʻOku foʻou ia ʻi he pongipongi kotoa pē, ʻoku lahi hoʻo angatonu.
23They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!
24ʻOku pehē ʻe hoku laumālie, “Ko hoku tofiʻa ʻa Sihova: ko ia te u ʻamanaki lelei ʻiate ia.”
24“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.”
25ʻOku lelei ʻa Sihova kiate kinautolu ʻoku tatali kiate ia, ki he laumālie ʻoku kumi kiate ia.
25The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.
26ʻOku lelei ki he tangata ke ne ʻamanaki, pea ne tatali fakatatoka foki ki he fakamoʻui meia Sihova.
26It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.
27ʻOku lelei ki he tangata ke ne fua ʻae haʻamo ʻi heʻene kei talavou.
27It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is still young.
28ʻOku ne nofo tokotaha pe, pea ʻoku longo pe, koeʻuhi kuo ne fua ia ʻe ia pe.
28Let him sit alone in silence, for God has disciplined him.
29ʻOku ne ʻai hono ngutu ʻi he efu, ko e meʻa naʻa ʻoku kei ai ha ʻamanaki.
29Let him bury his face in the dust— perhaps there is still hope.
30ʻOku ne tuku hono kouʻahe kiate ia ʻoku ne taaʻi ia: ʻoku ne pito ʻaupito ʻi he lauʻi kovi.
30Let him offer his cheek to the one who would strike him; let him be filled with reproach.
31He koeʻuhi ʻe ʻikai liʻaki ke lauikuonga ʻe Sihova:
31For the Lord will not cast us off forever.
32He kapau te ne fakamamahi, ka te ne manavaʻofa foki ʻo fakatatau ki hono lahi ʻo ʻene ngaahi ʻaloʻofa.
32Even if He causes grief, He will show compassion according to His abundant loving devotion.
33He ʻoku ʻikai te ne fie tautea, pe fakamamahi ʻae fānau ʻae tangata.
33For He does not willingly afflict or grieve the sons of men.
34Ke laiki ʻi hono lalo vaʻe ʻae ngaahi pōpula kotoa pē ʻo māmani,
34To crush underfoot all the prisoners of the land,
35Ke fakatafe ʻae totonu ʻoe tangata ʻi he ʻao ʻoe fofonga ʻoe Fungani Māʻoniʻoni,
35to deny a man justice before the Most High,
36Ke kākaaʻi ʻae tangata ʻi hono fakamaauʻi ʻoku ʻikai lelei ai ʻa Sihova.
36to subvert a man in his lawsuit— of these the Lord does not approve.
37Ko hai ia ʻoku fakahā, pea ʻoku hoko ia, ʻo kapau ʻoku ʻikai ke fekau ʻe Sihova?
37Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has ordained it?
38ʻOku ʻikai ke ʻalu mei he fofonga ʻoe Fungani Māʻolunga ʻae lelei mo e kovi.
38Do not both adversity and good come from the mouth of the Most High?
39Ko e hā ʻoku lāunga ai ʻae tangata moʻui, ʻae tangata koeʻuhi ko e tautea ʻo ʻene ngaahi angahala?
39Why should any mortal man complain, in view of his sins?
40Ke tau kumi mo ʻahiʻahiʻi hotau ngaahi ʻaluʻanga, pea toe tafoki kia Sihova.
40Let us examine and test our ways, and turn back to the LORD.
41Ke tau hiki hake hotau loto mo hotau nima ki he ʻOtua ʻi he ngaahi langi.
41Let us lift up our hearts and hands to God in heaven:
42“Kuo mau fai talangataʻa, pea kuo mau angatuʻu: ʻoku teʻeki ai te ke fakamolemole.
42“We have sinned and rebelled; You have not forgiven.”
43“Kuo ke ʻuʻufi ʻaki ʻae houhau, pea fakatangaʻi ʻakimautolu: kuo ke tāmateʻi pea naʻe ʻikai te ke manavaʻofa.
43You have covered Yourself in anger and pursued us; You have killed without pity.
44Kuo ke ʻufiʻufi koe ʻaki ʻae ʻao, ke ʻoua naʻa ʻasi atu ʻa ʻemau kole.
44You have covered Yourself with a cloud that no prayer can pass through.
45Kuo ke ngaohi ʻakimautolu ko e efe mo e ʻotoʻota ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe kakai.
45You have made us scum and refuse among the nations.
46“Kuo mafaʻa ʻae ngutu ʻa homau kau fili kotoa pē kiate kimautolu.
46All our enemies open their mouths against us.
47Kuo hoko mai ʻae manavahē mo e tauhele kiate kimautolu, ʻae lala mo e ʻauha.”
47Panic and pitfall have come upon us— devastation and destruction.
48ʻOku tafe hifo hoku mata, hangē ko e ngaahi vaitafe, koeʻuhi ko e ʻauha ʻae ʻofefine ʻo hoku kakai.
48Streams of tears flow from my eyes over the destruction of the daughter of my people.
49“ʻOku tafe hifo ʻa hoku mata, pea ʻikai ʻosi, ʻoku ʻikai siʻi ke tuku.
49My eyes overflow unceasingly, without relief,
50Ke ʻoua ke ʻafio mai ʻa Sihova, pea vakai mei he langi.
50until the LORD looks down from heaven and sees.
51Ko hoku mata ʻoku ne ueʻi hoku loto, koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi ʻofefine kotoa pē ʻo ʻeku kolo.
51My eyes bring grief to my soul because of all the daughters of my city.
52“Naʻe tuli fakamamahi au ʻe hoku kau fili hangē ha manupuna, taʻehanoʻuhinga.
52Without cause my enemies hunted me like a bird.
53Kuo nau motuhi ʻeku moʻui ʻi he fale fakapōpula, pea kuo lī ha maka kiate au.
53They dropped me alive into a pit and cast stones upon me.
54naʻe melemo hoku ʻulu ʻi he ngaahi vai; pea ne u toki pehē, ‘Kuo motuhi au.’
54The waters flowed over my head, and I thought I was going to die.
55“ʻE Sihova ne u ui ki ho huafa mei he fale fakapōpula taumamaʻo.
55I called on Your name, O LORD, out of the depths of the Pit.
56Kuo ke fanongo ki hoku leʻo; ʻoua naʻa ke fufū ho fofonga ki heʻeku mānava, ki heʻeku tangi.
56You heard my plea: “Do not ignore my cry for relief.”
57Naʻa ke ʻunuʻunu mai ʻo ofi ʻi he ʻaho ko ia ne u ui kiate koe: naʻa ke pehē, “ʻOua naʻa manavahē.”
57You drew near when I called on You; You said, “Do not be afraid.”
58“ʻE Sihova kuo ke langomakiʻi hoku laumālie; kuo ke huhuʻi ʻeku moʻui.
58You defend my cause, O Lord; You redeem my life.
59ʻE Sihova kuo ke ʻafioʻi ki he kovi kuo fai kiate au, fakamaau ʻe koe ʻeku meʻa.
59You have seen, O LORD, the wrong done to me; vindicate my cause!
60Kuo ke ʻafio ki heʻenau lili kotoa pē, mo ʻenau ngaahi filioʻi kiate au.
60You have seen all their malice, all their plots against me.
61“ʻE ʻEiki kuo ke fanongo ki heʻenau taukae, pea mo ʻenau ngaahi filioʻi kiate au;
61O LORD, You have heard their insults, all their plots against me—
62ʻae loungutu ʻonautolu naʻe tuʻu hake kiate au, pea mo ʻenau fakatupu meʻa kiate au ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē.
62the slander and murmuring of my assailants against me all day long.
63Vakai ki heʻenau nofo hifo mo ʻenau tuʻu hake; ko au ko ʻenau taʻanga.
63When they sit and when they rise, see how they mock me in song.
64“ʻE ʻEiki ke ke tuku kiate kinautolu ha totongi, ʻo fakatatau ki he ngāue ʻa honau nima.
64You will pay them back what they deserve, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.
65Tuku kiate kinautolu ʻae mamahi ʻoe loto, ʻa hoʻo malaʻia kiate kinautolu.
65Put a veil of anguish over their hearts; may Your curse be upon them!
66Fakatanga mo fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu ʻi he houhau mei he lalo langi ʻa Sihova.
66You will pursue them in anger and exterminate them from under Your heavens, O LORD.
