1โยชูวาตื่นแต่เช้า เขากับชาวอิสราเอลทั้งหมดออกจากชิททิมมาถึงแม่น้ำจอร์แดน และตั้งค่ายอยู่ที่นั่นก่อนจะข้ามไป
1And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and they removed from Shittim, and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel; and they lodged there before they passed over.
2เมื่อผ่านไปสามวัน เจ้าหน้าที่ก็เดินไปทั่วค่าย
2And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the midst of the camp;
3และสั่งประชาชนว่า “เมื่อพวกท่านเห็นหีบพันธสัญญาของพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่าน ซึ่งบรรดาปุโรหิตชาวเลวีแบกอยู่ ก็จงออกจากที่พักและตามหีบนั้นไป
3and they commanded the people, saying: 'When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
4แต่ระหว่างพวกท่านกับหีบนั้นให้มีระยะห่างประมาณสองพันศอก ตามที่วัดได้ อย่าเข้าไปใกล้กว่านั้น เพื่อพวกท่านจะรู้ว่าต้องไปทางไหน เพราะพวกท่านยังไม่เคยผ่านทางนี้มาก่อน”
4Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure; come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go; for ye have not passed this way heretofore.'
5โยชูวาพูดกับประชาชนว่า “จงชำระตัวให้บริสุทธิ์ เพราะพรุ่งนี้พระยาห์เวห์จะทรงทำการอัศจรรย์ท่ามกลางพวกท่าน”
5And Joshua said unto the people: 'Sanctify yourselves; for to-morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.'
6โยชูวาพูดกับบรรดาปุโรหิตว่า “จงยกหีบพันธสัญญาขึ้นแบกและข้ามไปนำหน้าประชาชน” พวกเขาจึงยกหีบพันธสัญญาขึ้นแบกและเดินนำหน้าประชาชน
6And Joshua spoke unto the priests, saying: 'Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass on before the people.' And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.
7พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโยชูวาว่า “วันนี้เราจะเริ่มทำให้เจ้ายิ่งใหญ่ในสายตาของชาวอิสราเอลทั้งปวง เพื่อพวกเขาจะรู้ว่าเราอยู่กับโมเสสอย่างไร เราก็จะอยู่กับเจ้าอย่างนั้น
7And the LORD said unto Joshua: 'This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
8เจ้าจงสั่งบรรดาปุโรหิตผู้แบกหีบพันธสัญญาว่า ‘เมื่อพวกท่านมาถึงริมน้ำจอร์แดน จงหยุดยืนอยู่ในแม่น้ำจอร์แดน’”
8And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying: When ye are come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, ye shall stand still in the Jordan.'
9โยชูวาพูดกับชาวอิสราเอลว่า “จงเข้ามาใกล้และฟังถ้อยคำของพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่าน”
9And Joshua said unto the children of Israel: 'Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God.'
10โยชูวากล่าวว่า “จากสิ่งที่จะเกิดขึ้น พวกท่านจะรู้ว่าพระเจ้าผู้ทรงพระชนม์อยู่ท่ามกลางพวกท่าน และพระองค์จะขับไล่ชาวคานาอัน ชาวฮิตไทต์ ชาวฮีไวต์ ชาวเปริสซี ชาวเกอร์กาชี ชาวอาโมไรต์ และชาวเยบุสออกไปต่อหน้าพวกท่านอย่างแน่นอน
10And Joshua said: 'Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Hivite, and the Perizzite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Jebusite.
11จงดู หีบพันธสัญญาขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า แห่งแผ่นดินโลกทั้งสิ้นกำลังข้ามไปนำหน้าพวกท่านลงในแม่น้ำจอร์แดน
11Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth on before you over the Jordan.
12บัดนี้ จงเลือกชายสิบสองคนจากเผ่าต่าง ๆ ของอิสราเอล เผ่าละหนึ่งคน
12Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, for every tribe a man.
13เมื่อฝ่าเท้าของบรรดาปุโรหิตผู้แบกหีบของพระยาห์เวห์ องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าแห่งแผ่นดินโลกทั้งสิ้น เหยียบลงในน้ำจอร์แดน น้ำในแม่น้ำจอร์แดนจะถูกตัดขาด น้ำที่ไหลลงมาจากต้นน้ำจะหยุดและตั้งขึ้นเป็นกองเดียว”
13And it shall come to pass, when the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, even the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand in one heap.'
14เมื่อประชาชนออกจากเต็นท์เพื่อข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดน บรรดาปุโรหิตผู้แบกหีบพันธสัญญาก็เดินนำหน้าประชาชน
14And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over the Jordan, the priests that bore the ark of the covenant being before the people;
15ครั้นผู้แบกหีบมาถึงแม่น้ำจอร์แดน และเท้าของบรรดาปุโรหิตผู้แบกหีบจุ่มลงตรงริมน้ำ—แม่น้ำจอร์แดนเอ่อล้นตลิ่งตลอดฤดูเก็บเกี่ยว—
15and when they that bore the ark were come unto the Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark were dipped in the brink of the water — for the Jordan overfloweth all its banks all the time of harvest —
16น้ำที่ไหลลงมาจากต้นน้ำก็หยุดและตั้งขึ้นเป็นกองเดียวอยู่ไกลออกไปมาก ที่เมืองอาดัมซึ่งอยู่ใกล้ศาเรธาน ส่วนน้ำที่ไหลลงสู่ทะเลอาราบาห์ คือทะเลเกลือ ก็ถูกตัดขาดจนหมด ประชาชนจึงข้ามไปใกล้เมืองเยรีโค
16that the waters which came down from above stood, and rose up in one heap, a great way off from Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those that went down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were wholly cut off; and the people passed over right against Jericho.
17บรรดาปุโรหิตผู้แบกหีบพันธสัญญาของพระยาห์เวห์ยืนอย่างมั่นคงบนพื้นแห้งกลางแม่น้ำจอร์แดน ขณะที่ชาวอิสราเอลทั้งหมดข้ามไปบนพื้นแห้ง จนคนทั้งชาติข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนไปหมดทุกคน
17And the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, while all Israel passed over on dry ground, until all the nation were passed clean over the Jordan.
