1หลังจากผ่านไปนาน เมื่อพระยาห์เวห์ประทานให้อิสราเอลได้พักสงบจากศัตรูรอบด้านแล้ว โยชูวาก็ชรามาก
1And it came to pass after many days, when the LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua was old and well stricken in years;
2โยชูวาเรียกอิสราเอลทั้งหมด รวมทั้งผู้อาวุโส หัวหน้า ผู้พิพากษา และเจ้าหน้าที่ แล้วพูดกับพวกเขาว่า “ข้าพเจ้าชรามากแล้ว
2that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said unto them: 'I am old and well stricken in years.
3พวกท่านได้เห็นทุกสิ่งที่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านทรงทำแก่ชนชาติทั้งหมดเหล่านี้เพื่อพวกท่าน เพราะพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านเองทรงต่อสู้เพื่อพวกท่าน
3And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God, He it is that hath fought for you.
4ดูเถิด ข้าพเจ้าได้จับสลากแบ่งแผ่นดินของชนชาติเหล่านี้ที่ยังเหลืออยู่ให้เป็นมรดกแก่เผ่าของพวกท่าน ตั้งแต่แม่น้ำจอร์แดน รวมทั้งแผ่นดินของชนชาติทั้งหมดที่ข้าพเจ้าได้กำจัดไป จนถึงทะเลใหญ่ทางทิศตะวันตก
4Behold, I have allotted unto you for an inheritance, according to your tribes, these nations that remain, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun.
5พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านจะทรงผลักไสชนชาติเหล่านั้นออกไปต่อหน้าพวกท่าน และขับไล่พวกเขาให้พ้นสายตา พวกท่านจะยึดครองแผ่นดินของพวกเขา ตามที่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านตรัสไว้
5And the LORD your God, He shall thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God spoke unto you.
6“ดังนั้นจงเข้มแข็งและกล้าหาญยิ่งนัก ที่จะเอาใจใส่และทำตามทุกสิ่งที่เขียนไว้ในหนังสือธรรมบัญญัติของโมเสส อย่าหันเหจากธรรมบัญญัตินั้นไปทางขวาหรือทางซ้าย
6Therefore be ye very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;
7เพื่อพวกท่านจะไม่เข้าไปคลุกคลีกับชนชาติเหล่านี้ที่ยังหลงเหลืออยู่ท่ามกลางพวกท่าน อย่าเอ่ยชื่อเทพเจ้าของพวกเขา อย่าทำให้ใครสาบานโดยอ้างชื่อเทพเจ้าเหล่านั้น อย่ารับใช้หรือกราบไหว้เทพเจ้าเหล่านั้น
7that ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor worship them;
8แต่จงยึดมั่นในพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่าน เหมือนที่พวกท่านได้ทำมาจนถึงวันนี้
8but cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day;
9“เพราะพระยาห์เวห์ทรงขับไล่ชนชาติที่ยิ่งใหญ่และเข้มแข็งออกไปต่อหน้าพวกท่าน ส่วนพวกท่านนั้น จนถึงวันนี้ยังไม่มีใครยืนหยัดต่อหน้าพวกท่านได้
9wherefore the LORD hath driven out from before you great nations and mighty; but as for you, no man hath stood against you unto this day.
10คนหนึ่งในพวกท่านจะไล่ศัตรูได้หนึ่งพันคน เพราะพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านทรงต่อสู้เพื่อพวกท่าน ตามที่พระองค์ตรัสไว้
10One man of you hath chased a thousand; for the LORD your God, He it is that fought for you, as He spoke unto you.
11ดังนั้นจงเอาใจใส่อย่างยิ่งที่จะรักพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่าน
11Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.
12“แต่ถ้าพวกท่านหันกลับไปจริง ๆ และยึดติดกับชนชาติที่ยังหลงเหลืออยู่ท่ามกลางพวกท่าน แต่งงานเกี่ยวดองกับพวกเขา และไปมาหาสู่กันทั้งสองฝ่าย
12Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you;
13ก็จงรู้แน่ว่า พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านจะไม่ทรงขับไล่ชนชาติเหล่านี้ให้พ้นสายตาของพวกท่านอีกต่อไป แต่พวกเขาจะเป็นบ่วงและกับดัก เป็นแส้เฆี่ยนสีข้างและเป็นหนามในดวงตาของพวกท่าน จนพวกท่านพินาศไปจากแผ่นดินอันดีนี้ซึ่งพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านประทานให้
13know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive these nations from out of your sight; but they shall be a snare and a trap unto you, and a scourge in your sides, and pricks in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
14“ดูเถิด วันนี้ข้าพเจ้ากำลังจะจากโลกนี้ไปเช่นเดียวกับมนุษย์ทุกคน พวกท่านรู้อยู่ด้วยสุดหัวใจและสุดชีวิตว่า ไม่มีสิ่งดีแม้แต่สิ่งเดียวจากทุกสิ่งที่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านตรัสเกี่ยวกับพวกท่านแล้วไม่เกิดขึ้น ทุกสิ่งเกิดขึ้นกับพวกท่านครบถ้วน ไม่มีแม้แต่สิ่งเดียวที่ไม่เกิดขึ้น
14And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth; consider ye therefore in all your heart and in all your soul, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, not one thing hath failed thereof.
15สิ่งดีทุกอย่างที่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านตรัสไว้เกิดขึ้นกับพวกท่านอย่างไร พระยาห์เวห์ก็จะทรงนำสิ่งร้ายทุกอย่างมาสู่พวกท่านอย่างนั้น จนพระองค์ทรงทำลายพวกท่านให้หมดไปจากแผ่นดินอันดีนี้ซึ่งพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านประทานให้
15And it shall come to pass, that as all the good things are come upon you of which the LORD your God spoke unto you, so shall the LORD bring upon you all the evil things, until He have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
16เมื่อพวกท่านฝ่าฝืนพันธสัญญาของพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านซึ่งพระองค์ทรงบัญชาไว้ แล้วไปรับใช้เทพเจ้าอื่นและก้มลงกราบไหว้เทพเจ้าเหล่านั้น ความกริ้วของพระยาห์เวห์จะลุกโชนต่อพวกท่าน และพวกท่านจะพินาศไปจากแผ่นดินอันดีที่พระองค์ประทานให้อย่างรวดเร็ว”
16When ye transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and worship them; then shall the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which He hath given unto you.'
