1(18-1) For the Leader. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD, who spoke unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul; (18-2) And he said: I love thee, O LORD, my strength.
1E ALOHA aku no au ia oe, e Iehova, e ko'u ikaika.
2(18-3) The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in Him I take refuge; my shield, and my horn of salvation, my high tower.
2O Iehova ko'u pohaku, kuu pakaua, a me ko'u mea e ola'i; O ko'u Akua, ko'u oolea, a'u e hilinai ai; O ko'u paku, o ko'u hao e ola'i, o ko'u halepukaua kiekie.
3(18-4) Praised, I cry, is the LORD, and I am saved from mine enemies.
3E kahea aku au ia Iehova, ia ia ka hoolea, Pela au e hoopakeleia'i i ko'u mau enemi.
4(18-5) The cords of Death compassed me, and the floods of Belial assailed me.
4Ua puni au i ka ehaeha o ka make; Ua hooweliweli mai ia'u na ale o ka poe aia.
5(18-6) The cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of Death confronted me.
5Ua puni au i na kaei o ka malu o ka make; Ua paa au i ko ka make upena.
6(18-7) In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God; out of His temple He heard my voice, and my cry came before Him unto His ears.
6I ko u popilikia ana, ua kahea aku au ia Iehova, Ua auwe aku au i ko'u Akua; Ua lohe mai no ia ia'u ma kona luakini, Ua hiki aku kuu ulono imua ona, a i kona mau pepeiao.
7(18-8) Then the earth did shake and quake, the foundations also of the mountains did tremble; they were shaken, because He was wroth.
7Alaila nauwe iho la ka honua a me ka haalulu; Nauweuwe iho la ua kumu o na mauna, Ua hoonauweia mai ia no kona inaina.
8(18-9) Smoke arose up in His nostrils, and fire out of His mouth did devour; coals flamed forth from Him.
8Ua pukoa ae la ka uahi mai loko ae o kona mau puka ihu. Mai loko mai o kona waha ke ahi e ai ana; Ua kukuniia ka lanahu e ia.
9(18-10) He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and thick darkness was under His feet.
9Ua hoohaahaa iho la oia i na lani, a iho mai la; Malalo hoi o kona mau wawae ka pouli.
10(18-11) And He rode upon a cherub, and did fly; yea, He did swoop down upon the wings of the wind.
10Ua holo ia ma ke keruba, ua lele no hoi ia: Oiaio, ua lele oia ma na eheu o ka makani.
11(18-12) He made darkness His hiding-place, His pavilion round about Him; darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
11Ua hoolilo oia i ka pouli i wahi mehameha nona: O kona halelowa i hoopuni ia ia, a o na wai pouli a me na a eleele o ka lani.
12(18-13) At the brightness before Him, there passed through His thick clouds hailstones and coals of fire.
12No ka olinolino imua ona, ua lele ae la kona mau ao eleele, O na hua hekili, a me na lanahu ahi.
13(18-14) The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High gave forth His voice; hailstones and coals of fire.
13Ua hoohekili mai la o Iehova ma ka lani; Ua hoopuka mai la ka Mea kiekie loa i kona leo: O na hua hekili, a me na lanahu ahi.
14(18-15) And He sent out His arrows, and scattered them; and He shot forth lightnings, and discomfited them.
14Ua pehi iho la i kana mau pua, e hoopuehu ia lakou; Ua pana iho la i na uwila, a ua auhee lakou ia ia.
15(18-16) And the channels of waters appeared, and the foundations of the world were laid bare, at Thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of Thy nostrils.

17Ua hoopakele oia ia'u i ko'u mau enemi ikaika, A me ka poe inaina mai ia'u: No ka mea, ua oi aku ko lakou ikaika i ko'u.
18(18-19) They confronted me in the day of my calamity; but the LORD was a stay unto me.
18Ua hoopaa mai lakou ia'u i ko'u la popilikia: Aka, ua lilo mai o Iehova i kokua no'u.
19(18-20) He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because He delighted in me.
19Ua lawe ae la oia ia'u i kahi akea; Ua hoopakele mai no ia ia'u, no kona makemake ana mai ia'u.
20(18-21) The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath He recompensed me.

26(18-27) With the pure Thou dost show Thyself pure; and with the crooked Thou dost show Thyself subtle.
26Me ka mea maemae, e hoike ana oe ia oe iho he maemae; Me ka mea hooolea, e hoike ana oe ia oe iho ho oolea.
27(18-28) For Thou dost save the afflicted people; but the haughty eyes Thou dost humble.

31(18-32) For who is God, save the LORD? And who is a Rock, except our God?

38(18-39) I have smitten them through, so that they are not able to rise; they are fallen under my feet.

43(18-44) Thou hast delivered me from the contentions of the people; Thou hast made me the head of the nations; a people whom I have not known serve me.
43Ua hoopakele oe ia'u i ka paio ana o na kanaka; Ua hoolilo oe ia'u i poo no na lahuikanaka e; E malama mai ana no ia'u ka poe kanaka a'u i ike ole ai.
