1Elihu also proceeded, and said:
1OLELO hou aku la o Elihu, i aku la,
2Suffer me a little, and I will tell thee; for there are yet words on God's behalf.
2E ahonui iki mai ia'u, a e hoike aku au ia oe, No ka mea, he wahi olelo ka'u i koe no ke Akua.
3I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.
3E lawe mai no au i kuu ike mai kahi loihi mai, A e hoapono aku au i kuu mea nana i hana.
4For truly my words are not false; one that is upright in mind is with thee.
4No ka mea, aole e wahahee ka'u olelo; O ka mea hemolele i ka ike, oia me oe.
5Behold, God is mighty, yet He despiseth not any; He is mighty in strength of understanding.
5Aia hoi, he mana ke Akua, aole ia e hoowahawaha: He mana kona, he ikaika ka naauao.
6He preserveth not the life of the wicked; but giveth to the poor their right.
6Aole ia e hoopomaikai i ka aia: Aka, e haawi no ia i ka pono no na ilihune.
7He withdraweth not His eyes from the righteous; but with kings upon the throne He setteth them for ever, and they are exalted.
7Aole ia e lawe ae i kona mau maka mai ka poe pono aku; Aia no ia me na'lii maluna o ka nohoalii; A e hoonoho paa no oia ia lakou, i kiekie ai lakou.
8And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction;
8A ina e hoopaaia lakou i na kaulahao, A e hoopaaia lakou i ke kaula o ka popilikia;
9Then He declareth unto them their work, and their transgressions, that they have behaved themselves proudly.
9Alaila hoike no ia ia lakou i ka lakou hana, A me ko lakou hewa, no ka mea, ua hana kiekie lakou.
10He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.
10Wehe ae no ia i ko lakou pepeiao no ke ao ana, A olelo aku e huli mai lakou mai ka hewa mai.
11If they hearken and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
11Ina hoolohe lakou, a malama ia ia, E noho lakou i ko lakou mau la me ka pomaikai, A i ko lakou mau makahiki me ka oluolu.
12But if they hearken not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.
12Aka, i hoolohe ole lakou, e make lakou i ka pahikaua, A e make lakou iloko o ka naaupo.
13But they that are godless in heart lay up anger; they cry not for help when He bindeth them.
13A o ka poe aia ma ka naau, hoiliili lakou i ka inaina: Aole lakou e kahea aku, i ka wa e hoopaa aku ai oia ia lakou.
14Their soul perisheth in youth, and their life as that of the depraved.
14E make no lakou i ka wa ui, A ua pau ko lakou ola ana iwaena o ka poe haumia.
15He delivereth the afflicted by His affliction, and openeth their ear by tribulation.
15Hoopakele no ia i ka mea hune i kona popilikia, A wehe ae ia i ko lakou pepeiao i ka wa kaumaha.
16Yea, He hath allured thee out of distress into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which is set on thy table is full of fatness;
16A lawe auanei hoi oia ia oe mai kahi pilikia a kahi akea, Ma kahi aohe ona pilikia: A o ka mea e kauia ma kou papaaina, e piha ia i ka momona.
17And thou art full of the judgment of the wicked; judgment and justice take hold on them.
17Aka, i lawe paha oe i ka hewa o ka mea aia, O ka hoohewa, a me ka hoopai e hahai mai.
18For beware of wrath, lest thou be led away by thy sufficiency; neither let the greatness of the ransom turn thee aside.
18No ka mea, no ka huhu, [E ao,] o lawe aku oia ia oe me ka hahau ana; Alaila aole e hiki i ka panai nui ke hoopakele ia oe.
19Will thy riches avail, that are without stint, or all the forces of thy strength?
19E manao anei oia i kou waiwai? Aole! aole ke gula, aole hoi na mea waiwai a pau.
20Desire not the night, when peoples are cut off in their place.
20Mai iini oe i ka po, I ka wa i okiia'i na kanaka mai ko lakou wahi.
21Take heed, regard not iniquity; for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.
21E makaala, mai malama oe i ka hewa: No ka mea, ua koho aku oe i keia mamua o ka popilikia.
22Behold, God doeth loftily in His power; who is a teacher like Him?
22Aia hoi, o ke Akua ke hookiekie ma kona mana, Owai ke ao aku e like me ia?
23Who hath enjoined Him His way? Or who hath said: 'Thou hast wrought unrighteousness'?
23Owai la i kuhikuhi aku ia ia i kona aoao? Owai la ke olelo aku, Ua hana oe i ka hewa?
24Remember that thou magnify His work, whereof men have sung.
24E hoomanao, e hoonui aku oe i kana hana, Ka mea a na kanaka i ike ai.
25All men have looked thereon; man beholdeth it afar off.
25E ike na kanaka a pau ia; E nana ke kanaka mai kahi loihi.
26Behold, God is great, beyond our knowledge; the number of His years is unsearchable.
26Aia hoi, he nui ke Akua, aole kakou i ike, A o ka heluna o na makahiki ona, aole e huliia.
27For He draweth away the drops of water, which distil rain from His vapour;
27No ka mea, ua hoopii aku ia i na kulu wai; Ninini iho lakou he ua, noloko o kona ohu,
28Which the skies pour down and drop upon the multitudes of men.
28Ka mea a na naulu i hookulukulu iho ai, A ninini nui maluna o ke kanaka.
29Yea, can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, the crashings of His pavilion?
29E hoomaopopo anei kekahi i ka hohola ana o na ao? A me ka halulu ana o kona halelewa?
30Behold, He spreadeth His light upon it; and He covereth the depths of the sea.
30Aia hoi, hohola aku no ia i kona malamalama maluna ona, A uhi no ia i ka hohonu o ke kai.
31For by these He judgeth the peoples; He giveth food in abundance.
31No ka mea, ma o lakou la ke hooponopono nei ia i na kanaka; Ke haawi nei ia i ka ai a nui loa.
32He covereth His hands with the lightning, and giveth it a charge that it strike the mark.
32Me na poho lima ke uhi no ia i ka uila, A kauoha aku ia ia i kona wahi e kau ai:
33The noise thereof telleth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the storm that cometh up.
33I kuhikuhi aku ia ia ia i kona mau makamaka; Aia ka ahu ana o ka huhu maluna o ka mea hewa.
