1And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.
1此后， 亚扪 人的王死了，他儿子 哈嫩 接续他作王。
2And David said: 'I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness unto me.' So David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
2大卫 说：「我要照 哈嫩 的父亲 拿辖 厚待我的恩典厚待 哈嫩 。」于是 大卫 差遣臣仆，为他丧父安慰他。 大卫 的臣仆到了 亚扪 人的境内。
3But the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord: 'Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David sent his servants unto thee to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?'
3但 亚扪 人的首领对他们的主 哈嫩 说：「 大卫 差人来安慰你，你想他是尊敬你父亲吗？他差臣仆来不是详察窥探、要倾覆这城吗？」
4So Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
4哈嫩 便将 大卫 臣仆的胡须剃去一半，又割断他们下半截的衣服，使他们露出下体，打发他们回去。
5When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said: 'Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.'
5有人告诉 大卫 ，他就差人去迎接他们，（因为他们甚觉羞耻），告诉他们说：「可以住在 耶利哥 ，等到胡须长起再回来。」
6And when the children of Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Arameans of Beth-rehob, and the Arameans of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with a thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.
6亚扪 人知道 大卫 憎恶他们，就打发人去，招募 伯·利合 的 亚兰 人和 琐巴 的 亚兰 人，步兵二万，与 玛迦 王的人一千、 陀伯 人一万二千。
7And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
7大卫 听见了，就差派 约押 统带勇猛的全军出去。
8And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate; and the Arameans of Zobah, and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
8亚扪 人出来，在城门前摆阵； 琐巴 与 利合 的 亚兰 人、 陀伯 人，并 玛迦 人，另在郊野摆阵。
9Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Arameans;
9约押 看见敌人在他前后摆阵，就从 以色列 军中挑选精兵，使他们对着 亚兰 人摆阵。
10and the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother, and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.
10其余的兵交与他兄弟 亚比筛 ，对着 亚扪 人摆阵。
11And he said: 'If the Arameans be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me, but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.
11约押 对 亚比筛 说：「 亚兰 人若强过我，你就来帮助我； 亚扪 人若强过你，我就去帮助你。
12Be of good courage, and let us prove strong for our people, and for the cities of our God; and the LORD do that which seemeth Him good.'
12我们都当刚强，为本国的民和 神的城邑作大丈夫。愿耶和华凭他的意旨而行！」
13So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh unto the battle against the Arameans; and they fled before him.
13于是， 约押 和跟随他的人前进攻打 亚兰 人； 亚兰 人在 约押 面前逃跑。
14And when the children of Ammon saw that the Arameans were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
14亚扪 人见 亚兰 人逃跑，他们也在 亚比筛 面前逃跑进城。 约押 就离开 亚扪 人那里，回 耶路撒冷 去了。
15And when the Arameans saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
15亚兰 人见自己被 以色列 人打败，就又聚集。
16And Hadadezer sent, and brought out the Arameans that were beyond the River; and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the host of Hadadezer at their head.
16哈大底谢 差遣人，将大河那边的 亚兰 人调来；他们到了 希兰 ， 哈大底谢 的将军 朔法 率领他们。
17And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Arameans set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
17有人告诉 大卫 ，他就聚集 以色列 众人，过 约旦河 ，来到 希兰 。 亚兰 人迎着 大卫 摆阵，与他打仗。
18And the Arameans fled before Israel; and David slew of the Arameans seven hundred drivers of chariots, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, so that he died there.
18亚兰 人在 以色列 人面前逃跑； 大卫 杀了 亚兰 七百辆战车 的人 ，四万马兵，又杀了 亚兰 的将军 朔法 。
19And when all the kings that were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Arameans feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
19属 哈大底谢 的诸王见自己被 以色列 人打败，就与 以色列 人和好，归服他们。于是 亚兰 人不敢再帮助 亚扪 人了。
