1And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.
1此後， 亞捫 人的王死了，他兒子 哈嫩 接續他作王。
2And David said: 'I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness unto me.' So David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
2大衛 說：「我要照 哈嫩 的父親 拿轄 厚待我的恩典厚待 哈嫩 。」於是 大衛 差遣臣僕，為他喪父安慰他。 大衛 的臣僕到了 亞捫 人的境內。
3But the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord: 'Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David sent his servants unto thee to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?'
3但 亞捫 人的首領對他們的主 哈嫩 說：「 大衛 差人來安慰你，你想他是尊敬你父親嗎？他差臣僕來不是詳察窺探、要傾覆這城嗎？」
4So Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
4哈嫩 便將 大衛 臣僕的鬍鬚剃去一半，又割斷他們下半截的衣服，使他們露出下體，打發他們回去。
5When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said: 'Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.'
5有人告訴 大衛 ，他就差人去迎接他們，（因為他們甚覺羞恥），告訴他們說：「可以住在 耶利哥 ，等到鬍鬚長起再回來。」
6And when the children of Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Arameans of Beth-rehob, and the Arameans of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with a thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.
6亞捫 人知道 大衛 憎惡他們，就打發人去，招募 伯‧利合 的 亞蘭 人和 瑣巴 的 亞蘭 人，步兵二萬，與 瑪迦 王的人一千、 陀伯 人一萬二千。
7And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
7大衛 聽見了，就差派 約押 統帶勇猛的全軍出去。
8And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate; and the Arameans of Zobah, and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
8亞捫 人出來，在城門前擺陣； 瑣巴 與 利合 的 亞蘭 人、 陀伯 人，並 瑪迦 人，另在郊野擺陣。
9Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Arameans;
9約押 看見敵人在他前後擺陣，就從 以色列 軍中挑選精兵，使他們對着 亞蘭 人擺陣。
10and the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother, and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.
10其餘的兵交與他兄弟 亞比篩 ，對着 亞捫 人擺陣。
11And he said: 'If the Arameans be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me, but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.
11約押 對 亞比篩 說：「 亞蘭 人若強過我，你就來幫助我； 亞捫 人若強過你，我就去幫助你。
12Be of good courage, and let us prove strong for our people, and for the cities of our God; and the LORD do that which seemeth Him good.'
12我們都當剛強，為本國的民和上帝的城邑作大丈夫。願耶和華憑他的意旨而行！」
13So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh unto the battle against the Arameans; and they fled before him.
13於是， 約押 和跟隨他的人前進攻打 亞蘭 人； 亞蘭 人在 約押 面前逃跑。
14And when the children of Ammon saw that the Arameans were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
14亞捫 人見 亞蘭 人逃跑，他們也在 亞比篩 面前逃跑進城。 約押 就離開 亞捫 人那裏，回 耶路撒冷 去了。
15And when the Arameans saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
15亞蘭 人見自己被 以色列 人打敗，就又聚集。
16And Hadadezer sent, and brought out the Arameans that were beyond the River; and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the host of Hadadezer at their head.
16哈大底謝 差遣人，將大河那邊的 亞蘭 人調來；他們到了 希蘭 ， 哈大底謝 的將軍 朔法 率領他們。
17And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Arameans set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
17有人告訴 大衛 ，他就聚集 以色列 眾人，過 約旦河 ，來到 希蘭 。 亞蘭 人迎着 大衛 擺陣，與他打仗。
18And the Arameans fled before Israel; and David slew of the Arameans seven hundred drivers of chariots, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, so that he died there.
18亞蘭 人在 以色列 人面前逃跑； 大衛 殺了 亞蘭 七百輛戰車 的人 ，四萬馬兵，又殺了 亞蘭 的將軍 朔法 。
19And when all the kings that were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Arameans feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
19屬 哈大底謝 的諸王見自己被 以色列 人打敗，就與 以色列 人和好，歸服他們。於是 亞蘭 人不敢再幫助 亞捫 人了。
