1それから私は海辺の砂の上に立った。すると、一匹の獣が海から上って来るのを見た。獣には七つの頭と十本の角があり、その角には十の冠があり、頭には神を冒涜する名が記されていた。
1And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten diadems, and upon his heads names of blasphemy.
2私が見た獣はひょうに似ており、足は熊の足のようで、口は獅子の口のようであった。竜はこの獣に、自分の力と王座と大きな権威を与えた。
2And the beast, which I saw, was like to a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his own strength, and great power.
3獣の頭の一つは、致命的な傷を負ったように見えた。しかし、その致命傷は治った。全地は驚嘆して獣に従い、
3And I saw one of his heads as it were slain to death: and his death’s wound was healed. And all the earth was in admiration after the beast.
4獣に権威を与えた竜を礼拝した。また、獣を礼拝して言った。「だれがこの獣のようであろうか。だれがこれと戦うことができようか。」
4And they adored the dragon, which gave power to the beast: and they adored the beast, saying: Who is like to the beast? and who shall be able to fight with him?
5獣には、大言と冒涜の言葉を語る口が与えられた。また、四十二か月の間戦う権威が与えられた。
5And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things, and blasphemies: and power was given to him to do two and forty months.
6獣は口を開いて神を冒涜し、神の名とその住まい、また天に住む者たちを冒涜した。
6And he opened his mouth unto blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7また、聖徒たちと戦って彼らに打ち勝つことが許され、あらゆる部族、民族、言語、国民を支配する権威が与えられた。
7And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them. And power was given him over every tribe, and people, and tongue, and nation.
8世の初めから、屠られた小羊の命の書に名が記されていない地上の住民は、みな獣を礼拝する。
8And all that dwell upon the earth adored him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb, which was slain from the beginning of the world.
9耳のある者は聞きなさい。
9If any man have an ear, let him hear.
10捕らわれの身になることが定められている者は、捕らわれの身になる。剣で殺されることが定められている者は、剣で殺されなければならない。ここに、聖徒たちの忍耐と信仰がある。
10He that shall lead into captivity, shall go into captivity: he that shall kill by the sword, must be killed by the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
11また、別の獣が地から上って来るのを見た。それには小羊のような二本の角があり、竜のように語った。
11And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns, like a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon.
12この獣は、第一の獣の前で、そのすべての権威を行使した。そして地とそこに住む者たちに、致命傷の癒えた第一の獣を礼拝させた。
12And he executed all the power of the former beast in his sight; and he caused the earth, and them that dwell therein, to adore the first beast, whose wound to death was healed.
13また、大きなしるしを行い、人々の目の前で天から地上に火さえ降らせた。
13And he did great signs, so that he made also fire to come down from heaven unto the earth in the sight of men.
14この獣は、第一の獣の前で行うことを許されたしるしによって、地上に住むわたし自身の民を惑わした。そして地上に住む者たちに、剣で傷を負いながら生き返った獣の像を造るように命じた。
14And he seduced them that dwell on the earth, for the signs, which were given him to do in the sight of the beast, saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make the image of the beast, which had the wound by the sword, and lived.
15第二の獣には、獣の像に息を与え、その像が語り、獣の像を礼拝しない者をみな殺すことが許された。
15And it was given him to give life to the image of the beast, and that the image of the beast should speak; and should cause, that whosoever will not adore the image of the beast, should be slain.
16また、小さい者にも大きい者にも、富む者にも貧しい者にも、自由人にも奴隷にも、その右手か額に印を付けさせた。
16And he shall make all, both little and great, rich and poor, freemen and bondmen, to have a character in their right hand, or on their foreheads.
17その印、すなわち、獣の名またはその名を表す数字を持つ者でなければ、だれも売り買いできないようにしたのである。
17And that no man might buy or sell, but he that hath the character, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18ここに知恵がある。理解力のある者は、獣の数字を計算しなさい。それは人の数字である。その数字は六百六十六である。
18Here is wisdom. He that hath understanding, let him count the number of the beast. For it is the number of a man: and the number of him is six hundred sixty-six.
