1こういうわけで、あなたがた異邦人のためにキリスト・イエスの囚人となっている、この私パウロは――
1For this cause, I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ, for you Gentiles;
2あなたがたのために私に委ねられた神の恵みの務めについて、きっと聞いていることでしょう。
2If yet you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me towards you:
3先に手短に書いたとおり、啓示によって奥義が私に知らされました。
3How that, according to revelation, the mystery has been made known to me, as I have written above in a few words;
4それを読めば、私がキリストの奥義をどのように理解しているかが分かります。
4As you reading, may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ,
5この奥義は、以前の世代には人々に知らされませんでしたが、今は聖霊によって、神の聖なる使徒たちと預言者たちに啓示されています。
5Which in other generations was not known to the sons of men, as it is now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit:
6その奥義とは、異邦人も福音を通してキリスト・イエスにあって、ともに相続を受け、ともに一つの体に属し、ともに神の約束にあずかる者となることです。
6That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and co-partners of his promise in Christ Jesus, by the gospel:
7私は、神の力の働きに従って与えられた恵みの賜物により、この福音に仕える者とされました。
7Of which I am made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God, which is given to me according to the operation of his power:
8すべての聖徒の中で最も小さい者にも及ばない私に、この恵みが与えられました。それは、計り知ることのできないキリストの豊かさを異邦人に福音として告げ知らせ、
8To me, the least of all the saints, is given this grace, to preach among the Gentiles, the unsearchable riches of Christ,
9また、イエス・キリストによってすべてを創造された神のうちに、長い時代にわたって隠されてきた奥義にかかわるご計画がどのようなものかを、すべての人に明らかにするためです。
9And to enlighten all men, that they may see what is the dispensation of the mystery which hath been hidden from eternity in God, who created all things:
10それは今、教会を通して、神の多種多様な知恵が、天上にいる支配者たちと権威ある者たちに知らされるためでした。
10That the manifold wisdom of God may be made known to the principalities and powers in heavenly places through the church,
11これは、神が私たちの主キリスト・イエスにあって成し遂げられた、永遠の目的に沿うものです。
11According to the eternal purpose, which he made, in Christ Jesus our Lord:
12私たちはキリストにあって、キリストへの信仰により、大胆に、確信をもって神に近づくことができます。
12In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
13ですから、私があなたがたのために受けている苦難によって、気落ちしないよう願います。この苦難はあなたがたの栄光なのです。
13Wherefore I pray you not to faint at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
14こういうわけで私は、私たちの主イエス・キリストの父の前にひざをかがめます。
14For this cause I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15天と地にあるすべての家族は、この方に由来してその名を与えられています。
15Of whom all paternity in heaven and earth is named,
16どうか父が、その栄光の豊かさにふさわしく、聖霊によって、あなたがたの内なる人を力強くしてくださいますように。
16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened by his Spirit with might unto the inward man,
17また、信仰によってキリストがあなたがたの心に住んでくださいますように。そして、あなたがたが愛に根を下ろし、愛を土台として、
17That Christ may dwell by faith in your hearts; that being rooted and founded in charity,
18すべての聖徒とともに、その広さ、長さ、高さ、深さがどれほどであるかを理解する力を与えられ、
18You may be able to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth, and length, and height, and depth:
19人の知識をはるかに超えるキリストの愛を知ることができますように。こうして、神の満ち満ちた豊かさのすべてにまで、あなたがたが満たされますように。
19To know also the charity of Christ, which surpasseth all knowledge, that you may be filled unto all the fulness of God.
20私たちのうちに働く力によって、私たちが願うこと、思うことのすべてをはるかに超えて、限りなく豊かに実現することのできる方に、
20Now to him who is able to do all things more abundantly than we desire or understand, according to the power that worketh in us;
21教会とキリスト・イエスにおいて、すべての世代にわたり、世々限りなく栄光がありますように。アーメン。
21To him be glory in the church, and in Christ Jesus unto all generations, world without end. Amen.
