1私があなたがたとラオディキアにいる人々のために、また、私とじかに顔を合わせたことのないすべての人々のために、どれほど激しく苦闘しているかを知ってほしいのです。
1For I would have you know, what manner of care I have for you and for them that are at Laodicea, and whosoever have not seen my face in the flesh:
2それは、彼らの心が励まされ、愛によって結び合わされ、理解に基づく確信の豊かさを余すところなく得て、神の奥義、すなわち父とキリストの奥義を知るようになるためです。
2That their hearts may be comforted, being instructed in charity, and unto all riches of fulness of understanding, unto the knowledge of the mystery of God the Father and of Christ Jesus:
3キリストのうちには、知恵と知識の宝がすべて隠されています。
3In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4私がこう言うのは、もっともらしい言葉でだれにも惑わされないためです。
4Now this I say, that no man may deceive you by loftiness of words.
5私は肉体では離れていても、霊ではあなたがたと共にいて、あなたがたの秩序と、キリストに対する信仰の堅固さを見て喜んでいます。
5For though I be absent in body, yet in spirit I am with you; rejoicing, and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith which is in Christ.
6あなたがたは主キリスト・イエスを受け入れたのですから、この方にあって歩みなさい。
6As therefore you have received Jesus Christ the Lord, walk ye in him;
7キリストのうちに根を下ろし、その上に建てられ、教えられたとおり信仰に堅く立ち、感謝にあふれなさい。
7Rooted and built up in him, and confirmed in the faith, as also you have learned, abounding in him in thanksgiving.
8人間の言い伝えやこの世の諸霊に従い、キリストに従わない哲学とむなしい欺きによって、だれかのとりこにされないよう注意しなさい。
8Beware lest any man cheat you by philosophy, and vain deceit; according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ:
9神性のすべてが、キリストのうちに体をもって宿っているからです。
9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead corporeally;
10そしてあなたがたは、キリストにあって満たされています。キリストは、すべての支配と権威のかしらです。
10And you are filled in him, who is the head of all principality and power:
11また、あなたがたはキリストにあって、人の手によらない割礼を受けました。それは、肉に属する罪の体を脱ぎ捨てることであり、キリストによる割礼です。
11In whom also you are circumcised with circumcision not made by hand, in despoiling of the body of the flesh, but in the circumcision of Christ:
12あなたがたは洗礼によってキリストと共に葬られ、また、キリストを死者の中からよみがえらせた神の働きを信じる信仰によって、キリストと共によみがえらされました。
12Buried with him in baptism, in whom also you are risen again by the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him up from the dead.
13あなたがたは背きと肉の無割礼のために死んでいましたが、神はあなたがたをキリストと共に生かし、私たちのすべての背きを赦してくださいました。
13And you, when you were dead in your sins, and the uncircumcision of your flesh; he hath quickened together with him, forgiving you all offences:
14神は、私たちに不利な規定の記された証書を消し去り、それを取り除いて十字架に釘づけにされました。
14Blotting out the handwriting of the decree that was against us, which was contrary to us. And he hath taken the same out of the way, fastening it to the cross:
15また神は、もろもろの支配と権威を武装解除し、彼らを公然とさらしものにして、十字架によって彼らに勝利されました。
15And despoiling the principalities and powers, he hath exposed them confidently in open shew, triumphing over them in himself.
16ですから、食べ物や飲み物について、また祭り、新月、安息日について、だれにもあなたがたを裁かせてはなりません。
16Let no man therefore judge you in meat or in drink, or in respect of a festival day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbaths,
17これらは来たるべきものの影です。しかし、その体はキリストのものです。
17Which are a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ.
18自己卑下や天使礼拝を好む者に、あなたがたの受ける賞を奪わせてはなりません。そのような者は、自分が見てもいないことに深入りし、肉の思いによってむなしく思い上がり、
18Let no man seduce you, willing in humility, and religion of angels, walking in the things which he hath not seen, in vain puffed up by the sense of his flesh,
19かしらである方にしっかり結びついていません。このかしらから、体全体は関節と靱帯によって支えられ、結び合わされ、神が与える成長を遂げるのです。
19And not holding the head, from which the whole body, by joints and bands, being supplied with nourishment and compacted, groweth unto the increase of God.
20あなたがたはこの世の諸霊に対してキリストと共に死んだのに、なぜ、まだこの世に生きているかのように、
20If then you be dead with Christ from the elements of this world, why do you yet decree as though living in the world?
21「手をつけるな。味わうな。触れるな」という規定に従うのですか。
21Touch not, taste not, handle not:
22これらはすべて、用いればなくなってしまうもので、人間の戒めや教えに基づいています。
22Which all are unto destruction by the very use, according to the precepts and doctrines of men.
23このような規定は、勝手に作り上げた礼拝、自己卑下、体を厳しく扱うことによって、いかにも知恵があるように見えます。しかし、肉の欲望を抑えるには何の価値もありません。
23Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in superstition and humility, and not sparing the body; not in any honour to the filling of the flesh.
