1イエフの第七年にエホアシュがユダの王となり、エルサレムで四十年間治めた。母の名はベエルシェバ出身のツィビヤであった。
1(12-2) In the seventh year of Jehu began Jehoash to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.
2エホアシュは、祭司エホヤダが教え導いていた間、主の目にかなうことを行った。
2(12-3) And Jehoash did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
3しかし高き所は取り除かれず、民はまだ高き所でいけにえをささげ、香をたいていた。
3(12-4) Howbeit the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and offered in the high places.
4エホアシュは祭司たちに言った。「主の家に持ち込まれる聖なる銀、すなわち通用する銀、各人に課された評価額の銀 、また人が進んで主の家に持って来るすべての銀を、
4(12-5) And Jehoash said to the priests: 'All the money of the hallowed things that is brought into the house of the LORD, in current money, the money of the persons for whom each man is rated, all the money that cometh into any man's heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
5祭司たちはそれぞれ寄進者から受け取り、神殿の破損が見つかったところはどこでも修理させよ。」
5(12-6) let the priests take it to them, every man from him that bestoweth it upon him; and they shall repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.'
6しかし、エホアシュ王の第二十三年になっても、祭司たちは家の破れを修理していなかった。
6(12-7) But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.
7そこでエホアシュ王は祭司エホヤダと他の祭司たちを呼び、「なぜ神殿の破損を修理しないのか。これからは寄進者から銀を受け取らず、修理のために引き渡せ」と命じた。
7(12-8) Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the other priests, and said unto them: 'Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore take no longer money from them that bestow it upon you, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.'
8祭司たちは、民からこれ以上銀を受け取らず、神殿修理の責任も負わないことに同意した。
8(12-9) And the priests consented that they should take no longer money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house.
9しかし祭司エホヤダは一つの箱を取り、その蓋に穴を開け、主の家に入って来る者の右側、祭壇のそばにそれを置いた。門を守る祭司たちは、主の家に持ち込まれたすべての銀をその中に入れた。
9(12-10) And Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD; and the priests that kept the threshold put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.
10箱に銀が多くたまると、王の書記官と大祭司が来て、主の家に集まった銀を袋に入れて数えた。
10(12-11) And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
11彼らは量られた銀を、仕事をする者たち、すなわち主の家を監督する者たちの手に渡し、彼らはそれを主の家で働く大工や建築者たち、
11(12-12) And they gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD; and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,
12石工、石を切り出す者たちに支払い、また主の家の破れを修理するための木材と切り石を買うため、そして家を修理するために費やされるすべてのために支払った。
12(12-13) and to the masons and the hewers of stone, and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.
13しかし、主の家に持ち込まれた銀から、主の家のための銀の杯、芯切りばさみ、鉢、ラッパ、金の器や銀の器は何も造られなかった。
13(12-14) But there were not made for the house of the LORD cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD;
14彼らはそれを仕事をする者たちに与え、それで主の家を修理したからである。
14(12-15) for they gave that to them that did the work, and repaired therewith the house of the LORD.
15また、工事をする者たちに支払う銀を託された人々には、会計報告を求めなかった。彼らが誠実に働いていたからである。
15(12-16) Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to give to them that did the work; for they dealt faithfully.
16咎のささげ物の銀と罪のささげ物の銀は、主の家には持ち込まれなかった。それは祭司たちのものであった。
16(12-17) The forfeit money, and the sin money, was not brought into the house of the LORD; it was the priests.
17そのころ、アラムの王ハザエルはガテに攻め上ってこれを奪い、さらにエルサレムへ攻め上る決意をした。
17(12-18) Then Hazael king of Aram went up, and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
18ユダの王エホアシュは、彼の先祖であるユダの王たち、ヨシャファテ、エホラム、アハズヤが聖別したすべての聖なるもの、彼自身の聖なるもの、および主の家の宝物庫と王の家で見つかったすべての金を取り、それをアラムの王ハザエルに送った。すると彼はエルサレムから去って行った。
18(12-19) And Jehoash king Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and of the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Aram; and he went away from Jerusalem.
19ヨアシュのその他の事績と、彼が行ったすべてのことは、ユダの王たちの年代記の書に記されているではないか。
19(12-20) Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
20彼のしもべたちは立ち上がって陰謀を企て、シラへ下るミロの家でヨアシュを打ち殺した。
20(12-21) And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and smote Joash at Beth-millo, on the way that goeth down to Silla.
21シメアテの息子ヨザカルと、ショメルの息子エホザバド、すなわち彼のしもべたちが彼を打ったので、彼は死んだ。そして彼らは彼をダビデの町で先祖とともに葬り、その息子アマツヤが代わって王となった。
21(12-22) For Jozacar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David; and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
