1希西家 王十四年， 亚述 王 西拿基立 上来攻击 犹大 的一切坚固城，将城攻取。
1Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
2亚述 王从 拉吉 差遣拉伯沙基率领大军往 耶路撒冷 ，到 希西家 王那里去。他就站在上池的水沟旁，在漂布地的大路上。
2And the king of Assyria sent Rab-shakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fullers' field.
3于是 希勒家 的儿子家宰 以利亚敬 ，并书记 舍伯那 和 亚萨 的儿子史官 约亚 ，出来见拉伯沙基。
3Then came forth unto him Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
4拉伯沙基对他们说：「你们去告诉 希西家 说， 亚述 大王如此说：『你所倚靠的有什么可仗赖的呢？
4And Rab-shakeh said unto them: 'Say ye now to Hezekiah: Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria: What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
5你说，有打仗的计谋和能力，我看不过是虚话。你到底倚靠谁才背叛我呢？
5I said: It is but vain words; for counsel and strength are for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou hast rebelled against me?
6看哪，你所倚靠的 埃及 是那压伤的苇杖，人若靠这杖，就必刺透他的手。 埃及 王法老向一切倚靠他的人也是这样。
6Behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it; so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust on him.
7你若对我说：我们倚靠耶和华—我们的 神。 希西家 岂不是将 神的邱坛和祭坛废去，且对 犹大 和 耶路撒冷 的人说：你们当在这坛前敬拜吗？
7But if thou say unto me: We trust in the LORD our God; is not that He, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and to Jerusalem: Ye shall worship before this altar?
8现在你把当头给我主 亚述 王，我给你二千匹马，看你这一面骑马的人够不够。
8Now therefore, I pray thee, make a wager with my master, the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
9若不然，怎能打败我主臣仆中最小的军长呢？你竟倚靠 埃及 的战车马兵吗？
9How then canst thou turn away the face of one captain, even of the least of my master's servants? yet thou puttest thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen!
10现在我上来攻击毁灭这地，岂没有耶和华的意思吗？耶和华吩咐我说，你上去攻击毁灭这地吧！』」
10And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? The LORD said unto me: Go up against this land, and destroy it.'
11以利亚敬 、 舍伯那 、 约亚 对拉伯沙基说：「求你用 亚兰 言语和仆人说话，因为我们懂得；不要用 犹大 言语和我们说话，达到城上百姓的耳中。」
11Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rab-shakeh: 'Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Aramean language, for we understand it; and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.'
12拉伯沙基说：「我主差遣我来，岂是单对你和你的主说这些话吗？不也是对这些坐在城上、要与你们一同吃自己粪喝自己尿的人说吗？」
12But Rab-shakeh said: 'Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own water with you?'
13于是，拉伯沙基站着，用 犹大 言语大声喊着说：「你们当听 亚述 大王的话。
13Then Rab-shakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said: 'Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
14王如此说：『你们不要被 希西家 欺哄了，因他不能拯救你们。
14Thus saith the king: Let not Hezekiah beguile you, for he will not be able to deliver you;
15也不要听 希西家 使你们倚靠耶和华说：耶和华必要拯救我们，这城必不交在 亚述 王的手中。
15neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying: The LORD will surely deliver us; this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
16不要听 希西家 的话，因 亚述 王如此说：你们要与我和好。出来投降我，各人就可以吃自己葡萄树和无花果树的果子，喝自己井里的水。
16Hearken not to Hezekiah; for thus saith the king of Assyria: Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig-tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;
17等我来领你们到一个地方，与你们本地一样，就是有五谷和新酒之地，有粮食和葡萄园之地。
17until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
18你们要谨防，恐怕 希西家 劝导你们说：耶和华必拯救我们。列国的神有哪一个救他本国脱离 亚述 王的手呢？
18Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying: The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
19哈马 和 亚珥拔 的神在哪里呢？ 西法瓦音 的神在哪里呢？他们曾救 撒马利亚 脱离我的手吗？
19Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
20这些国的神有谁曾救自己的国脱离我的手呢？难道耶和华能救 耶路撒冷 脱离我的手吗？』」
20Who are they among all the gods of these countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'
21百姓静默不言，并不回答一句，因为王曾吩咐说：「不要回答他。」
21But they held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king's commandment was, saying: 'Answer him not.'
22当下 希勒家 的儿子家宰 以利亚敬 和书记 舍伯那 ，并 亚萨 的儿子史官 约亚 ，都撕裂衣服，来到 希西家 那里，将拉伯沙基的话告诉了他。
22Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab-shakeh.
