1My son, if you accept my words and hide my commandments within you,
1FIGLIUOL mio, se tu ricevi i miei detti, E riponi appo te i miei comandamenti,
2if you incline your ear to wisdom and direct your heart to understanding,
2Rendendo il tuo orecchio attento alla Sapienza; Se tu inchini il tuo cuore all'intendimento,
3if you truly call out to insight and lift your voice to understanding,
3E se tu chiami la prudenza, E dài fuori la tua voce all'intendimento;
4if you seek it like silver and search it out like hidden treasure,
4Se tu la cerchi come l'argento, E l'investighi come i tesori;
5then you will discern the fear of the LORD and discover the knowledge of God.
5Allora tu intenderai il timor del Signore, E troverai la conoscenza di Dio.
6For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
6Perciocchè il Signore dà la sapienza; Dalla sua bocca procede la scienza e l'intendimento.
7He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk with integrity,
7Egli riserba la ragione a' diritti; Egli è lo scudo di quelli che camminano in integrità;
8to guard the paths of justice and protect the way of His saints.
8Per guardare i sentieri di dirittura, E custodire la via de' suoi santi.
9Then you will discern righteousness and justice and equity—every good path.
9Allora tu intenderai giustizia, giudicio, E dirittura, ed ogni buon sentiero.
10For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will delight your soul.
10Quando la sapienza sarà entrata nel cuor tuo, E la scienza sarà dilettevole all'anima tua;
11Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you,
11L'avvedimento ti preserverà, La prudenza ti guarderà;
12to deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perversity,
12Per liberarti dalla via malvagia, Dagli uomini che parlano di cose perverse;
13from those who leave the straight paths to walk in the ways of darkness,
13I quali lasciano i sentieri della dirittura, Per camminar per le vie delle tenebre;
14from those who enjoy doing evil and rejoice in the twistedness of evil,
14I quali si rallegrano di far male, E festeggiano nelle perversità di malizia;
15whose paths are crooked and whose ways are devious.
15I quali son torti nelle lor vie, E traviati ne' lor sentieri.
16It will rescue you from the forbidden woman, from the stranger with seductive words
16Per iscamparti ancora dalla donna straniera; Dalla forestiera che parla vezzosamente;
17who abandons the partner of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.
17La quale ha abbandonato il conduttor della sua giovanezza, Ed ha dimenticato il patto del suo Dio.
18For her house sinks down to death, and her tracks to the departed spirits.
18Conciossiachè la casa di essa dichini alla morte, Ed i suoi sentieri a' morti.
19None who go to her return or negotiate the paths of life.
19Niuno di coloro ch'entrano da essa non ne ritorna, E non riprende i sentieri della vita.
20So you will follow in the ways of the good, and keep to the paths of the righteous.
20Acciocchè ancora tu cammini per la via de' buoni, Ed osservi i sentieri de' giusti.
21For the upright will inhabit the land, and the blameless will remain in it;
21Perciocchè gli uomini diritti abiteranno la terra, E gli uomini intieri rimarranno in essa.
22but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful will be uprooted.
22Ma gli empi saranno sterminati dalla terra, E i disleali ne saranno divelti.
