1Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.
1FIGLIUOLI, ascoltate l'ammaestramento del padre; E siate attenti, per conoscer la prudenza.
2For I give you sound teaching; do not abandon my directive.
2Perciocchè io vi ho data buona dottrina, Non lasciate la mia legge.
3When I was a son to my father, tender and the only child of my mother,
3Perciocchè io ancora sono stato figliuol di mio padre, Tenero, ed unico appresso mia madre.
4he taught me and said, “Let your heart lay hold of my words; keep my commands and you will live.
4Ed esso mi ammaestrava, e mi diceva: Il tuo cuore ritenga le mie parole; Osserva i miei comandamenti, e tu viverai.
5Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn from them.
5Acquista sapienza, acquista prudenza; Non dimenticare i detti della mia bocca, e non rivolgertene indietro.
6Do not forsake wisdom, and she will preserve you; love her, and she will guard you.
6Non abbandonar la sapienza , ed ella ti preserverà; Amala, ed ella ti guarderà.
7Wisdom is supreme; so acquire wisdom. And whatever you may acquire, gain understanding.
7La sapienza è la principal cosa; acquista la sapienza; Ed al prezzo di tutti i tuoi beni, acquista la prudenza.
8Prize her, and she will exalt you; if you embrace her, she will honor you.
8Esaltala, ed ella ti innalzerà; Ella ti glorificherà, quando tu l'avrai abbracciata.
9She will set a garland of grace on your head; she will present you with a crown of beauty.”
9Ella ti metterà in sul capo un fregio di grazia; E ti darà una corona d'ornamento.
10Listen, my son, and receive my words, and the years of your life will be many.
10Ascolta, figliuol mio, e ricevi i miei detti; Ed anni di vita ti saranno moltiplicati.
11I will guide you in the way of wisdom; I will lead you on straight paths.
11Io ti ho ammaestrato nella via della sapienza; Io ti ho inviato ne' sentieri della dirittura.
12When you walk, your steps will not be impeded; when you run, you will not stumble.
12Quando tu camminerai, i tuoi passi non saran ristretti; E se tu corri, tu non incapperai.
13Hold on to instruction; do not let go. Guard it, for it is your life.
13Attienti all'ammaestramento, non lasciar lo ; Guardalo, perciocchè esso è la tua vita.
14Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers.
14Non entrare nel sentiero degli empi; E non camminar per la via de' malvagi.
15Avoid it; do not travel on it. Turn from it and pass on by.
15Schifala, non passar per essa; Stornatene, e passa oltre.
16For they cannot sleep unless they do evil; they are deprived of slumber until they make someone fall.
16Perciocchè essi non possono dormire, se non hanno fatto qualche male; E il sonno s'invola loro, se non hanno fatto cader qualcuno.
17For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
17Conciossiachè mangino il pane dell'empietà, E bevano il vino delle violenze.
18The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining brighter and brighter until midday.
18Ma il sentiero de' giusti è come la luce che spunta, La quale va vie più risplendendo, finchè sia chiaro giorno.
19But the way of the wicked is like the darkest gloom; they do not know what makes them stumble.
19La via degli empi è come una caligine; Essi non sanno in che incappano.
20My son, pay attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.
20Figliuol mio, attendi alle mie parole; Inchina l'orecchio tuo a' miei detti.
21Do not lose sight of them; keep them within your heart.
21Non dipartansi quelli giammai dagli occhi tuoi; Guardali in mezzo del tuo cuore;
22For they are life to those who find them, and health to the whole body.
22Perciocchè son vita a quelli che li trovano, E sanità a tutta la lor carne.
23Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow springs of life.
23Sopra ogni guardia, guarda il tuo cuore; Perciocchè da esso procede la vita.
24Put away deception from your mouth; keep your lips from perverse speech.
24Rimuovi da te la perversità della bocca, Ed allontana da te la perversità delle labbra.
25Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead.
25Gli occhi tuoi riguardino diritto davanti a te , E le tue palpebre dirizzino la lor mira dinanzi a te.
26Make a level path for your feet, and all your ways will be sure.
26Considera attentamente il sentiero de' tuoi piedi, E sieno addirizzate tutte le tue vie.
27Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your feet away from evil.
27Non dichinar nè a destra, nè a sinistra; Rimuovi il tuo piè dal male.
