1ชายชาวเอฟราอิมมารวมตัวกันและข้ามไปทางเหนือ พวกเขาพูดกับเยฟธาห์ว่า “ทำไมท่านจึงข้ามไปสู้กับชาวอัมโมนโดยไม่เรียกเราไปด้วย? เราจะเผาบ้านของท่านพร้อมกับตัวท่าน!”
1And the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed to Zaphon; and they said unto Jephthah: 'Wherefore didst thou pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thy house upon thee with fire.'
2เยฟธาห์ตอบว่า “ข้าพเจ้ากับประชาชนของข้าพเจ้าต่อสู้อย่างหนักกับชาวอัมโมน เมื่อข้าพเจ้าเรียกพวกท่าน พวกท่านก็ไม่ได้ช่วยข้าพเจ้าให้พ้นจากอำนาจของพวกเขา
2And Jephthah said unto them: 'I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye saved me not out of their hand.
3เมื่อเห็นว่าพวกท่านไม่ช่วย ข้าพเจ้าจึงเสี่ยงชีวิตข้ามไปสู้กับชาวอัมโมน และพระยาห์เวห์ทรงทำให้พวกเขาพ่ายแพ้แก่ข้าพเจ้า แล้วทำไมวันนี้พวกท่านจึงขึ้นมาสู้กับข้าพเจ้า?”
3And when I saw that ye saved me not, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand; wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?'
4เยฟธาห์จึงรวบรวมชายชาวกิเลอาดทั้งหมดและสู้กับเอฟราอิม ชาวกิเลอาดสังหารชาวเอฟราอิม เพราะชาวเอฟราอิมกล่าวว่า “พวกเจ้าชาวกิเลอาดเป็นพวกหนีมาจากเอฟราอิม อยู่ท่ามกลางเอฟราอิมและท่ามกลางมนัสเสห์”
4Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said: 'Ye are fugitives of Ephraim, ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh.'
5ชาวกิเลอาดยึดท่าข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนไว้เพื่อสกัดชาวเอฟราอิม เมื่อผู้หลบหนีชาวเอฟราอิมคนใดบอกว่า “ขอให้ข้าข้ามไป” ชายชาวกิเลอาดจะถามว่า “เจ้าเป็นชาวเอฟราอิมหรือ?” ถ้าเขาตอบว่า “ไม่ใช่”
5And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites; and it was so, that when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said: 'Let me go over,' the men of Gilead said unto him: 'Art thou an Ephraimite?' If he said: 'Nay';

6then said they unto him: 'Say now Shibboleth'; and he said 'Sibboleth'; for he could not frame to pronounce it right; then they laid hold on him, and slew him at the fords of the Jordan; and there fell at that time of Ephraim forty and two thousand.
7เยฟธาห์ปกครองและวินิจฉัยอิสราเอลหกปี แล้วเยฟธาห์ชาวกิเลอาดก็เสียชีวิต และถูกฝังไว้ในเมืองต่างๆ ของกิเลอาด
7And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8ต่อจากเขา อิบซานชาวเบธเลเฮมปกครองและวินิจฉัยอิสราเอล
8And after him Ibzan of Beth-lehem judged Israel.
9เขามีบุตรชายสามสิบคน ส่งบุตรสาวสามสิบคนไปแต่งงานนอกตระกูล และรับหญิงสาวสามสิบคนจากนอกตระกูลมาให้บุตรชาย เขาปกครองและวินิจฉัยอิสราเอลเจ็ดปี
9And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10อิบซานเสียชีวิตและถูกฝังไว้ที่เบธเลเฮม
10and Ibzan died, and was buried at Beth-lehem.
11ต่อจากเขา เอโลนชาวเศบูลุนปกครองและวินิจฉัยอิสราเอลสิบปี
11And after him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12เอโลนชาวเศบูลุนเสียชีวิตและถูกฝังไว้ที่อัยยาโลนในแผ่นดินเศบูลุน
12And Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
13ต่อจากเขา อับโดนบุตรฮิลเลล ชาวปิราโธน ปกครองและวินิจฉัยอิสราเอล
13And after him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.
14เขามีบุตรชายสี่สิบคนและหลานชายสามสิบคน ซึ่งขี่ลูกลาเจ็ดสิบตัว เขาปกครองและวินิจฉัยอิสราเอลแปดปี
14And he had forty sons and thirty sons' sons, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts; and he judged Israel eight years.
15อับโดนบุตรฮิลเลล ชาวปิราโธน เสียชีวิตและถูกฝังไว้ที่ปิราโธนในแผ่นดินเอฟราอิม บนแถบภูเขาของชาวอามาเลข
15And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekites.
