1กษัตริย์กับฮามานมาร่วมงานเลี้ยงกับราชินีเอสเธอร์
1So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.
2ในวันที่สอง ระหว่างดื่มเหล้าองุ่นในงานเลี้ยง กษัตริย์ถามเอสเธอร์อีกว่า “ราชินีเอสเธอร์ เธอวิงวอนเรื่องอะไร? เราจะให้ตามคำวิงวอน มีคำขออะไร? แม้จะขอถึงครึ่งอาณาจักร เราก็จะทำให้”
2And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine: 'Whatever thy petition, queen Esther, it shall be granted thee; and whatever thy request, even to the half of the kingdom, it shall be performed.'
3ราชินีเอสเธอร์ตอบว่า “หากพระองค์พอใจในตัวข้าพเจ้าและเห็นชอบ ขอให้ไว้ชีวิตข้าพเจ้าตามคำวิงวอน และไว้ชีวิตชนชาติของข้าพเจ้าตามคำขอ
3Then Esther the queen answered and said: 'If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request;
4เพราะข้าพเจ้าและชนชาติของข้าพเจ้าถูกขายให้ถูกทำลาย ถูกฆ่า และต้องสิ้นชีวิต หากพวกเราถูกขายไปเป็นทาสชายและทาสหญิง ข้าพเจ้าก็จะนิ่งเงียบ แม้ผู้ปองร้ายจะไม่อาจชดเชยความสูญเสียของกษัตริย์ได้ก็ตาม”
4for we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my peace, for the adversary is not worthy that the king be endamaged.'
5กษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัสถามราชินีเอสเธอร์ว่า “คนที่กล้าคิดทำเช่นนี้เป็นใคร? เขาอยู่ที่ไหน?”
5Then spoke the king Ahasuerus and said unto Esther the queen: 'Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so?'
6เอสเธอร์ตอบว่า “ผู้ปองร้ายและศัตรูคนนั้นก็คือฮามานผู้ชั่วร้ายคนนี้!” ฮามานหวาดกลัวเมื่ออยู่ต่อหน้ากษัตริย์และราชินี
6And Esther said: 'An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman.' Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.
7กษัตริย์ลุกจากงานเลี้ยงดื่มเหล้าองุ่นด้วยความโกรธ แล้วออกไปในสวนของพระราชวัง ฮามานลุกขึ้นอ้อนวอนราชินีเอสเธอร์ให้ไว้ชีวิต เพราะเห็นว่ากษัตริย์ตัดสินใจจะเอาโทษเขาแล้ว
7And the king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden; but Haman remained to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
8เมื่อกษัตริย์กลับจากสวนเข้ามาในที่จัดงานเลี้ยงดื่มเหล้าองุ่น ฮามานทรุดลงบนที่เอนกายที่เอสเธอร์อยู่ กษัตริย์กล่าวว่า “เขายังจะล่วงเกินราชินีต่อหน้าเราในวังอีกหรือ?” ทันทีที่พระองค์พูดจบ ก็มีคนคลุมหน้าฮามาน
8Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the couch whereon Esther was. Then said the king: 'Will he even force the queen before me in the house?' As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.
9ฮาร์โบนาห์ ขันทีคนหนึ่งที่อยู่กับกษัตริย์ทูลว่า “ยังมีตะแลงแกงสูงห้าสิบศอก ที่ฮามานสร้างไว้สำหรับโมรเดคัย ผู้เคยแจ้งข่าวที่เป็นประโยชน์ต่อกษัตริย์ ตั้งอยู่ที่บ้านฮามาน” กษัตริย์สั่งว่า “แขวนคอเขาบนนั้น!”
9Then said Harbonah, one of the chamberlains that were before the king: 'Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman hath made for Mordecai, who spoke good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman.' And the king said: 'Hang him thereon.'
10พวกเขาจึงแขวนคอฮามานบนตะแลงแกงที่เขาเตรียมไว้สำหรับโมรเดคัย แล้วความโกรธของกษัตริย์ก็สงบลง
10So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath assuaged.
