1Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
1ต่อไปนี้คือชนชาติต่างๆ ที่พระยาห์เวห์ทรงปล่อยไว้เพื่อทดสอบชาวอิสราเอลทุกคนที่ไม่เคยผ่านสงครามใดๆ ในคานาอัน
2only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as beforetime knew nothing thereof;
2ทั้งนี้เพื่อให้ชาวอิสราเอลรุ่นหลัง โดยเฉพาะผู้ที่ไม่เคยผ่านสงครามมาก่อน ได้เรียนรู้การรบ
3namely, the five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Zidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon unto the entrance of Hamath.
3ได้แก่ ผู้ปกครองทั้งห้าของชาวฟีลิสเตีย ชาวคานาอันทั้งหมด ชาวไซดอน และชาวฮีไวต์ที่อาศัยอยู่บนภูเขาเลบานอน ตั้งแต่ภูเขาบาอัลเฮอร์โมนไปจนถึงทางเข้าเมืองฮามัท
4And they were there, to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
4ชนชาติเหล่านี้ถูกปล่อยไว้เพื่อใช้ทดสอบอิสราเอล จะได้รู้ว่าพวกเขาจะเชื่อฟังพระบัญญัติที่พระยาห์เวห์ทรงบัญชาแก่บรรพบุรุษผ่านทางโมเสสหรือไม่
5And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites;
5ชาวอิสราเอลอาศัยอยู่ท่ามกลางชาวคานาอัน ชาวฮิตไทต์ ชาวอาโมไรต์ ชาวเปริสซี ชาวฮีไวต์ และชาวเยบุส
6and they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
6พวกเขารับบุตรสาวของคนเหล่านั้นมาเป็นภรรยา และยกบุตรสาวของตนให้บุตรชายของคนเหล่านั้น แล้วปรนนิบัติเทพเจ้าของพวกเขา
7And the children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgot the LORD their God, and served the Baalim and the Asheroth.
7ชาวอิสราเอลทำสิ่งชั่วร้ายในสายพระเนตรของพระยาห์เวห์ ลืมพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของตน แล้วปรนนิบัติบรรดาพระบาอัลและบรรดาอาเชโรท
8Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He gave them over into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram-naharaim; and the children of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years.
8พระยาห์เวห์จึงทรงกริ้วอิสราเอลและปล่อยให้พวกเขาตกอยู่ใต้อำนาจของคูชันริชาธาอิม กษัตริย์แห่งเมโสโปเตเมีย ชาวอิสราเอลต้องรับใช้คูชันริชาธาอิมเป็นเวลาแปดปี
9And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a saviour to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.
9เมื่อชาวอิสราเอลร้องทูลพระยาห์เวห์ พระองค์ทรงตั้งผู้กอบกู้ขึ้นมาให้ชาวอิสราเอล และผู้กอบกู้คนนั้นช่วยพวกเขาให้รอดพ้น คือโอทนีเอลบุตรเคนัส น้องชายของคาเลบ
10And the spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and the LORD delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Cushan-rishathaim.
10พระวิญญาณของพระยาห์เวห์ทรงเข้ามาทำงานในตัวเขา เขาปกครองและวินิจฉัยอิสราเอล แล้วออกไปทำสงคราม พระยาห์เวห์ทรงมอบคูชันริชาธาอิม กษัตริย์แห่งเมโสโปเตเมีย ให้อยู่ในอำนาจของเขา เขาจึงมีชัยเหนือคูชันริชาธาอิม
11And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.
11แผ่นดินสงบอยู่สี่สิบปี แล้วโอทนีเอลบุตรเคนัสก็เสียชีวิต
12And the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.
12ชาวอิสราเอลทำสิ่งชั่วร้ายในสายพระเนตรของพระยาห์เวห์อีกครั้ง พระยาห์เวห์จึงทรงเสริมกำลังเอกโลนกษัตริย์แห่งโมอับให้ต่อสู้อิสราเอล เพราะพวกเขาทำสิ่งชั่วร้ายในสายพระเนตรของพระยาห์เวห์
13And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek; and he went and smote Israel, and they possessed the city of palm-trees.
13เอกโลนรวบรวมชาวอัมโมนและชาวอามาเลขเข้ากับตน แล้วยกไปโจมตีอิสราเอลและยึดเมืองต้นอินทผลัม
14And the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.
14ชาวอิสราเอลต้องรับใช้เอกโลนกษัตริย์แห่งโมอับเป็นเวลาสิบแปดปี
15But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a saviour, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a man left-handed; and the children of Israel sent a present by him unto Eglon the king of Moab.
15แต่เมื่อชาวอิสราเอลร้องทูลพระยาห์เวห์ พระองค์ทรงตั้งผู้กอบกู้ขึ้นมาช่วยพวกเขา คือเอฮูดบุตรเกรา ชาวเบนยามินผู้ถนัดมือซ้าย ชาวอิสราเอลฝากเครื่องบรรณาการไปถวายเอกโลนกษัตริย์แห่งโมอับทางเขา
16And Ehud made him a sword which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he girded it under his raiment upon his right thigh.
16เอฮูดทำดาบสองคมยาวหนึ่งศอก แล้วคาดไว้ใต้เสื้อผ้าตรงต้นขาขวา
17And he offered the present unto Eglon king of Moab — now Eglon was a very fat man.
17เขานำเครื่องบรรณาการไปถวายเอกโลนกษัตริย์แห่งโมอับ เอกโลนเป็นคนอ้วนมาก
18And when he had made an end of offering the present, he sent away the people that bore the present.
18เมื่อถวายเครื่องบรรณาการเสร็จ เอฮูดให้คนที่หามเครื่องบรรณาการกลับไป
19But he himself turned back from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said: 'I have a secret errand unto thee, O king.' And he said: 'Keep silence.' And all that stood by him went out from him.
19แต่ตัวเขาเองย้อนกลับมาจากรูปเคารพหินซึ่งอยู่ใกล้กิลกาล แล้วทูลว่า “ข้าพเจ้ามีเรื่องลับจะกราบทูลฝ่าบาท” กษัตริย์ตรัสว่า “เงียบไว้!” ทุกคนที่เฝ้าอยู่จึงออกไปจากพระองค์
20And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting by himself alone in his cool upper chamber. And Ehud said: 'I have a message from God unto thee.' And he arose out of his seat.
20เอฮูดเข้าไปหาเอกโลนซึ่งประทับอยู่ตามลำพังในห้องชั้นบนที่เย็นสบาย เอฮูดทูลว่า “ข้าพเจ้ามีสารจากพระเจ้ามาถึงพระองค์” เอกโลนจึงลุกจากที่ประทับ
21And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly.
21เอฮูดยื่นมือซ้ายชักดาบจากต้นขาขวา แล้วแทงเข้าไปในร่างของกษัตริย์
22And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, for he drew not the sword out of his belly; and it came out behind.
22ด้ามดาบจมตามคมดาบเข้าไปด้วย ไขมันหุ้มคมดาบไว้ เพราะเอฮูดไม่ได้ดึงดาบออกจากร่าง แล้วมันก็ออกมาทางด้านหลัง
23Then Ehud went forth into the porch, and shut the doors of the upper chamber upon him, and locked them.
23จากนั้นเอฮูดออกไปทางเฉลียง ปิดประตูห้องชั้นบนไว้แล้วลงกลอน
24Now when he was gone out, his servants came; and they saw, and, behold, the doors of the upper chamber were locked; and they said: 'Surely he is covering his feet in the cabinet of the cool chamber.'
24หลังจากเอฮูดออกไป พวกข้าราชบริพารมาถึงและเห็นว่าประตูห้องชั้นบนลงกลอนไว้ จึงพูดกันว่า “พระองค์คงกำลังทรงปิดพระบาท อยู่ในห้องชั้นบน”
25And they tarried till they were ashamed; and, behold, he opened not the doors of the upper chamber; therefore they took the key, and opened them; and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.
25พวกเขารอจนรู้สึกกระอักกระอ่วน แต่กษัตริย์ก็ยังไม่เปิดประตูห้องชั้นบน พวกเขาจึงนำกุญแจมาเปิด และเห็นกษัตริย์ของตนนอนสิ้นพระชนม์อยู่บนพื้น
26And Ehud escaped while they lingered, having passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirah.
26ระหว่างที่พวกเขารออยู่นั้น เอฮูดหนีไป ผ่านพ้นรูปเคารพหินและหนีไปถึงเสอีราห์
27And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a horn in the hill-country of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill-country, and he before them.
27เมื่อไปถึง เขาเป่าแตรในแถบภูเขาเอฟราอิม ชาวอิสราเอลลงจากแถบภูเขาไปกับเขา และเขานำหน้าพวกเขา
28And he said unto them: 'Follow after me; for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand.' And they went down after him, and took the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and suffered not a man to pass over.
28เขากล่าวว่า “ตามเรามา เพราะพระยาห์เวห์ทรงมอบชาวโมอับศัตรูของพวกเจ้าให้อยู่ในอำนาจของพวกเจ้าแล้ว” พวกเขาจึงตามเขาไป ยึดท่าข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนเพื่อสกัดชาวโมอับ และไม่ยอมให้ใครข้ามไปได้
29And they smote of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, every lusty man, and every man of valour; and there escaped not a man.
29ครั้งนั้นพวกเขาสังหารชายชาวโมอับประมาณหนึ่งหมื่นคน ล้วนเป็นคนแข็งแรงและนักรบผู้กล้าหาญ ไม่มีใครหนีรอดไปได้
30So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest fourscore years.
30วันนั้นโมอับจึงอยู่ใต้อำนาจของอิสราเอล แล้วแผ่นดินสงบอยู่แปดสิบปี
31And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who smote of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox-goad; and he also saved Israel.
31ต่อจากเขาคือชัมการ์บุตรอานาท ผู้ใช้ปฏักวัวสังหารชาวฟีลิสเตียหกร้อยคน เขาช่วยอิสราเอลให้รอดพ้นด้วย
