1After these things, when the wrath of king Ahasuerus was assuaged, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.
1หลังจากนั้น เมื่อความโกรธของกษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัสสงบลง พระองค์นึกถึงวัชที สิ่งที่นางทำ และคำสั่งที่ออกลงโทษนาง
2Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him: 'Let there be sought for the king young virgins fair to look on;
2บรรดาผู้รับใช้ใกล้ชิดจึงกล่าวว่า “ขอให้เสาะหาหญิงสาวพรหมจารีที่งดงามให้กษัตริย์
3and let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the castle, to the house of the women, unto the custody of Hegai the king's chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their ointments be given them;
3ขอให้พระองค์แต่งตั้งเจ้าหน้าที่ในทุกมณฑลของอาณาจักร เพื่อรวบรวมหญิงสาวพรหมจารีที่งดงามทั้งหมดมายังป้อมปราการสุสา ให้อยู่ในเรือนสตรีภายใต้การดูแลของเฮกัย ขันทีของกษัตริย์ผู้ดูแลเหล่าสตรี และให้จัดเครื่องประทินโฉมแก่นางทั้งหลาย
4and let the maiden that pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti.' And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

5There was a certain Jew in Shushan the castle, whose name was Mordecai the son of Jair the son of Shimei the son of Kish, a Benjamite,
5ในป้อมปราการสุสา มีชาวยิวคนหนึ่งชื่อโมรเดคัย เขาเป็นบุตรของยาอีร์ ยาอีร์เป็นบุตรของชิเมอี และชิเมอีเป็นบุตรของคีช ชาวเบนยามิน
6who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captives that had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.
6ซึ่งถูกกวาดต้อนจากเยรูซาเล็มไปพร้อมกับเชลยกลุ่มที่เนบูคัดเนสซาร์ กษัตริย์แห่งบาบิโลน กวาดต้อนไปพร้อมกับเยโคนิยาห์ กษัตริย์แห่งยูดาห์
7And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle's daughter; for she had neither father nor mother, and the maiden was of beautiful form and fair to look on; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordecai took her for his own daughter.
7โมรเดคัยเลี้ยงดูฮาดัสสาห์ หรือเอสเธอร์ ลูกพี่ลูกน้องของเขา เพราะนางไม่มีทั้งบิดาและมารดา บิดาของนางเป็นพี่น้องกับบิดาหรือมารดาของโมรเดคัย หญิงสาวผู้นี้มีรูปร่างหน้าตางดงาม เมื่อบิดามารดาของนางตาย โมรเดคัยก็รับนางมาเป็นลูกสาวของตน
8So it came to pass, when the king's commandment and his decree was published, and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan the castle, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was taken into the king's house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.
8เมื่อคำสั่งและพระราชกฤษฎีกาของกษัตริย์เป็นที่รับรู้ และหญิงสาวจำนวนมากถูกรวบรวมมายังป้อมปราการสุสาให้อยู่ในการดูแลของเฮกัย เอสเธอร์ก็ถูกพาเข้าไปในพระราชวัง ให้อยู่ในการดูแลของเฮกัยผู้ดูแลเหล่าสตรีด้วย
9And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he speedily gave her her ointments, with her portions, and the seven maidens, who were meet to be given her out of the king's house; and he advanced her and her maidens to the best place in the house of the women.
9เฮกัยพอใจหญิงสาวผู้นี้และเมตตานาง เขารีบจัดเครื่องประทินโฉมและส่วนอาหารให้นาง พร้อมกับหญิงสาวที่คัดเลือกจากพระราชวังเจ็ดคนซึ่งจะมอบให้คอยรับใช้นาง แล้วให้นางและหญิงสาวเหล่านั้นย้ายไปอยู่ในส่วนที่ดีที่สุดของเรือนสตรี
10Esther had not made known her people nor her kindred; for Mordecai had charged her that she should not tell it.
10เอสเธอร์ไม่ได้เปิดเผยว่านางเป็นชนชาติใดหรือมีญาติเป็นใคร เพราะโมรเดคัยกำชับไม่ให้นางบอก
11And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women's house, to know how Esther did, and what would become of her.
11ทุกวัน โมรเดคัยจะเดินอยู่หน้าลานเรือนสตรี เพื่อดูว่าเอสเธอร์เป็นอย่างไรและจะเกิดอะไรขึ้นกับนาง
12Now when the turn of every maiden was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that it had been done to her according to the law for the women, twelve months — for so were the days of their anointing accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six month with sweet odours, and with other ointments of the women —
12หญิงสาวแต่ละคนจะถึงคราวเข้าเฝ้ากษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัสเมื่อผ่านการชำระและดูแลร่างกายครบสิบสองเดือน ตามกำหนดคือใช้น้ำมันมดยอบหกเดือน แล้วใช้เครื่องหอมและเครื่องประทินโฉมสำหรับสตรีอีกหกเดือน
13when then the maiden came unto the king, whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king's house.
13เมื่อถึงคราวเข้าเฝ้ากษัตริย์ หญิงสาวจะได้รับสิ่งที่นางต้องการนำติดตัวจากเรือนสตรีไปยังพระราชวัง
14In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's chamberlain, who kept the concubines; she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and she were called by name.
14นางเข้าไปในเวลาเย็น แล้ววันรุ่งขึ้นก็กลับไปยังเรือนสตรีหลังที่สอง ให้อยู่ในการดูแลของชาอัชกัส ขันทีของกษัตริย์ผู้ดูแลนางสนม นางจะไม่ได้เข้าเฝ้ากษัตริย์อีก เว้นแต่พระองค์พอใจในตัวนางและเรียกนางมาโดยระบุชื่อ
15Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king's chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
15เมื่อถึงคราวของเอสเธอร์ที่จะเข้าเฝ้ากษัตริย์ นางไม่ได้ขออะไรนอกจากสิ่งที่เฮกัย ขันทีของกษัตริย์ผู้ดูแลเหล่าสตรี แนะนำ อาบีฮาอิล บิดาของเอสเธอร์ เป็นพี่น้องกับบิดาหรือมารดาของโมรเดคัย และโมรเดคัยรับเอสเธอร์เป็นลูกสาว ทุกคนที่เห็นเอสเธอร์ต่างชื่นชอบนาง
16So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
16เอสเธอร์ถูกพาเข้าเฝ้ากษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัสในพระราชวังในเดือนที่สิบ คือเดือนเทเบธ ปีที่เจ็ดแห่งรัชกาล
17And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.
17กษัตริย์รักเอสเธอร์มากกว่าหญิงอื่นทั้งหมด นางเป็นที่โปรดปรานและได้รับความเมตตาจากพระองค์มากกว่าหญิงพรหมจารีทุกคน พระองค์จึงสวมมงกุฎให้นางและตั้งนางเป็นราชินีแทนวัชที
18Then the king made a great feast unto all his princes and his servants, even Esther's feast; and he made a release to the provinces, and gave gifts, according to the bounty of the king.
18แล้วกษัตริย์จัดงานเลี้ยงใหญ่ให้บรรดาเจ้านายและผู้รับใช้ เป็นงานเลี้ยงเพื่อเอสเธอร์ พระองค์ประกาศให้มณฑลต่าง ๆ มีวันหยุด และแจกของกำนัลตามความเอื้อเฟื้อของพระองค์
19And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, and Mordecai sat in the king's gate —
19เมื่อมีการรวบรวมหญิงพรหมจารีเป็นครั้งที่สอง โมรเดคัยนั่งอยู่ที่ประตูวัง
20Esther had not yet made known her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her; for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him —
20เอสเธอร์ยังไม่ได้เปิดเผยว่าญาติของนางเป็นใครหรือนางเป็นชนชาติใด ตามที่โมรเดคัยสั่งไว้ นางเชื่อฟังโมรเดคัยเช่นเดียวกับตอนที่เขาเลี้ยงดูนาง
21in those days, while Mordecai sat in the king's gate, two of the king's chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those that kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus.
21ในช่วงนั้น ขณะที่โมรเดคัยนั่งอยู่ที่ประตูวัง ขันทีของกษัตริย์สองคนคือบิกธานและเทเรช ผู้เฝ้าประตู เกิดความโกรธและคิดจะทำร้ายกษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัส
22And the thing became known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther told the king thereof in Mordecai's name.
22โมรเดคัยรู้เรื่องนี้จึงแจ้งราชินีเอสเธอร์ นางนำเรื่องไปทูลกษัตริย์โดยระบุว่าโมรเดคัยเป็นผู้แจ้ง
23And when inquisition was made of the matter, and it was found to be so, they were both hanged on a tree; and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.
23เมื่อสอบสวนแล้วพบว่าเป็นจริง ทั้งสองก็ถูกแขวนคอบนตะแลงแกง และมีการบันทึกเรื่องนี้ในหนังสือพงศาวดารต่อหน้ากษัตริย์
