1預言者エリシャは預言者の子らの一人を呼んで、彼に言った。「あなたの腰に帯を締め、この油の壺を手に持って、ラモテ・ギレアデへ行きなさい。
1And Eliseus the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, slid said to him: Gird up thy loins, and take this little bottle of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth Galaad.
2そこに着いたなら、そこでニムシの子ヨシャファテの息子イエフを探し、中に入り、彼を仲間たちの中から立たせて、奥の部屋へ連れて行きなさい。
2And when thou art come thither, thou shalt see Jehu the son of Josaphat the son of Namsi: and going in thou shalt make him rise up from amongst his brethren, and carry him into an inner chamber.
3それから油の壺を取り、彼の頭に注いで、『主はこう言われる。「わたしはあなたに油を注いでイスラエルの上の王とする」』と言いなさい。それから戸を開け、逃げなさい。待っていてはならない。」
3Then taking the little bottle of oil, thou shalt pour it on his head, and shalt say: Thus saith the Lord: I have anointed thee king over Israel. And thou shalt open the door and flee, and shalt not stay there.
4そこで若い預言者はラモテ・ギレアデへ行った。
4So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went awry to Ramoth Galaad,
5彼が着くと、軍の長たちが座っていた。若者は言った。「隊長、あなたにお伝えすることがあります。」 イエフは言った。「われわれのうち、だれにだ。」 彼は言った。「隊長、あなたです。」
5And went in thither: and behold the captains of the army were sitting: and he said: I have a word to thee, O prince. And Jehu said: Unto whom of us all? And he said: To thee, O prince.
6彼は立ち上がって、家の中に入った。すると若者は彼の頭に油を注いで彼に言った。「イスラエルの神、主はこう言われる。『わたしはあなたに油を注いで主の民、すなわちイスラエルの上の王とする。
6And he arose, and went into the chamber: and he poured the oil upon his head, and said: Thus saith the Lord God of Israel: I have anointed thee king over Israel, the people of the Lord.
7あなたは主君アハブの家を打たなければならない。こうしてわたしは、イゼベルの手にかかった、わたしのしもべである預言者たちと、主のすべてのしもべたちの血に報いる。
7And thou shalt cut off the house of Achab thy master, and I will revenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord at the hand of Jezabel.
8アハブの全家は滅びる。わたしはイスラエルで、壁に放尿するすべての者 を、閉じ込められている者も自由な者も、アハブの家から断ち切る。
8And I will destroy all the house of Achab, and I will cut off from Achab him that pisseth against the well, and him that is shut up, and the meanest in Israel.
9わたしはアハブの家をネバテの息子ヤロブアムの家のようにし、アヒヤの息子バシャの家のようにする。
9And I will make the house of Achab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, and like the house of Baasa the son of Ahias.
10犬がイズレエルの地所でイゼベルを食うであろう。彼女を葬る者はだれもいない。』」それから彼は戸を開け、逃げた。
10And the dogs shall eat Jezabel in the field of Jezrahel, and there shall be no one to bury her. And he opened the door and fled.
11それからイエフは主君のしもべたちのところに出て来た。ある者が彼に言った。「無事か。なぜあの気の触れた男があなたのところに来たのか。」 イエフは答えた。「あの男がどんな者で、何を言いそうか、あなたがたも知っているだろう。」
11Then Jehu went forth to the servants of his lord: and they said to him: Are all things well? why came this mad man to thee? And he said to them: You know the man, and what he said.
12彼らは言った。「ごまかすな。さあ、話してくれ。」 彼は言った。「彼はわたしにこのように語り、『主はこう言われる。「わたしはあなたに油を注いでイスラエルの上の王とする」』と言った。」
12But they answered: It is false, but rather do thou tell us. And he said to them: Thus and thus did he speak to me: and he said: Thus saith the Lord: I have anointed thee king over Israel.
13すると彼らは急ぎ、各自が自分の上着を取り、階段の頂にある彼の下に置き、角笛を吹き鳴らして、「イエフが王だ」と言った。
13Then they made haste and taking every man his garment laid it under his feet, after the manner of a judgment seat, and they sounded the trumpet, and said: Jehu is king.
14こうしてニムシの子ヨシャファテの息子イエフは、ヨラムに対して陰謀を企てた。（さて、ヨラムと全イスラエルは、アラムの王ハザエルのゆえにラモテ・ギレアデを守っていた。
14So Jehu the son of Josaphat the son of Namsi conspired against Joram. Now Joram had besieged Ramoth Galaad, he and all Israel fighting with Hazael king of Syria:
15しかし、ヨラム王はアラムの王ハザエルと戦ったときにアラム人が彼に負わせた傷をいやすため、イズレエルへ帰っていた。） イエフは言った。「あなたがたも同じ考えなら、だれ一人この町から逃がしてはならない。イズレエルへ知らせに行かせるな。」
15And was returned to be healed in Jezrahel of his wounds, for the Syrians had wounded him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Jehu said: If it please you, let no mall go forth or flee out of the city, lest he go, and tell in Jezrahel.
16そこでイエフは戦車に乗り、イズレエルへ行った。ヨラムがそこに横たわっていたからである。ユダの王アハズヤはヨラムを見舞うために下って来ていた。
16And he got up, and went into Jezrahel: for Joram was sick there, and Ochozias king of Juda was come down to visit Joram.
17イズレエルのやぐらに立っていた見張りは、近づいて来るイエフの一隊を見て、「一隊が見えます」と報告した。 ヨラムは言った。「騎兵を一人選んで、彼らを迎えに遣わし、『平和か』と言わせよ。」
17The watchmen therefore, that stood upon the tower of Jezrahel, saw the troop of Jehu coming, and said: I see a troop. And Joram said: Take a chariot, and send to meet them, and let him that goeth say: Is all well?
18そこで馬に乗った男が彼を迎えに行き、「王が『平和か』と言っておられます」と言った。 イエフは言った。「あなたに平和と何のかかわりがあるのか。わたしの後ろに従え！」 見張りは、「使者は彼らのところに行きましたが、戻って来ません」と告げた。
18So there went one in a chariot to meet him, and said: Thus saith the king: Are all things peaceable? And Jehu said: What hast thou to do with peace? go behind and follow me. And the watchman told, saying: The messenger came to them, but he returneth not.
19そこで彼は二人目の馬に乗った者を遣わした。彼は彼らのところに来て言った。「王が『平和か』と言っておられます。」 イエフは答えた。「あなたに平和と何のかかわりがあるのか。わたしの後ろに従え！」
19And he sent a second chariot of horses: and he came to them, and said: Thus saith the king: Is there peace? And Jehu said: What hast thou to do with peace? pass, and follow me.
20見張りは報告した。「彼も一隊のところまで行きましたが、戻って来ません。戦車の駆り方はニムシの子イエフのようです。猛烈に駆っています。」
20And the watchman told, saying: He came even to them, but returneth not: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Namsi, for he drives furiously.
21ヨラムは言った。「準備せよ！」彼らは彼の戦車を準備した。イスラエルの王ヨラムとユダの王アハズヤは、それぞれ自分の戦車で出て行き、イエフを迎えに出た。彼らはイズレエル人ナボテの地所で彼を見つけた。
21And Joram said: Make ready the chariot. And they made ready his chariot, and Joram king of Israel, and Ochozias king of Juda went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu, and met him in the field of Naboth the Jezrahelite.
22ヨラムはイエフを見たとき、言った。「平和か、イエフよ。」 イエフは答えた。「あなたの母イゼベルの淫行と呪術がこれほどはびこっているのに、何の平和があるか。」
22And when Joram saw Jehu, he said: Is there peace, Jehu? And he answered: What peace? so long as the fornications of Jezabel thy mother, and her many sorceries are in their vigour.
23ヨラムは手綱を返して逃げ、アハズヤに叫んだ。「謀反だ、アハズヤ！」
23And Joram turned his hand, and fleeing, said to Ochozias: There is treachery, Ochozias.
24イエフは力いっぱい弓を引き、ヨラムの両腕の間を射た。矢は彼の心臓を貫き抜け、彼は戦車の中に崩れ落ちた。
24But Jehu bent Iris bow with his hand, and shot Joram between the shoulders: and the arrow went out through his heart, and immediately he fell in his chariot.
25イエフは副官ビデカルに言った。「彼を持ち上げ、イズレエル人ナボテの畑に投げ捨てよ。あなたとわたしが並んで彼の父アハブの後に従っていた時、主が彼にこの宣告を下されたことを思い出せ。
25And Jehu said to Badacer his captain: Take him, and cast him into the field of Naboth the Jezrahelite: for I remember when I and thou sitting in a chariot followed Achab this man’s father, that the Lord laid this burden upon him, saying:
26『確かにわたしは昨日、ナボテの血と彼の息子たちの血を見た』と主は言われる。『わたしはこの地所であなたに報いる』と主は言われる。だから今、主の言葉のとおりに、彼を取ってその地所に投げ捨てよ。」
26If I do not requite thee in this field, saith the Lord, for the blood of Naboth, and for the blood of his children, which I saw yesterday, saith the Lord. So now take him, and cast him into the field, according to the word of the Lord.
27ユダの王アハズヤはこれを見ると、園の家の道を通って逃げた。イエフは彼の後を追い、「彼も戦車の中で打て！」と言った。彼らはイブレアムのそばにあるグルの上り坂で彼を打った。彼はメギドへ逃げ、そこで死んだ。
27But Ochozias king of Juda seeing this, fled by the way of the garden house: and Jehu pursued him, and said: Strike him also in his chariot. And they struck him in the going up to Gaver, which is by Jeblaam: and he fled into Mageddo, and died there.
28彼のしもべたちは彼を戦車でエルサレムに運び、ダビデの町にある彼の墓に、彼の先祖とともに彼を葬った。
28And his servants laid him upon his chariot, and carried him to Jerusalem: and they buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David.
29アハブの息子ヨラムの第十一年に、アハズヤはユダの王となっていた。
29In the eleventh year of Joram the son of Achab, Ochozias reigned over Juda,
30イエフがイズレエルに来たとき、イゼベルはそれを聞いた。彼女は目に化粧を施し、頭を飾り、窓から見下ろした。
30And Jehu came into Jezrahel. But Jezabel hearing of his coming in, painted her face with stibic stone, and adorned her head, and looked out of a window
31イエフが門に入ると、彼女は言った。「ジムリよ、主君殺しよ。無事か。」
31At Jehu coming in at the gate, and said: Can there be peace for Zambri, that hath killed his master?
32彼は窓に顔を上げ、そして言った。「だれがわたしの味方か。だれか。」二、三人の宦官が彼を見下ろした。
32And Jehu lifted up his face to the window, and said: Who is this? And two or three eunuchs bowed down to him.
33イエフが「彼女を突き落とせ！」と命じると、彼らはイゼベルを突き落とした。血が壁と馬に飛び散り、イエフは彼女を踏みつけた。
33And he said to them: Throw her down headlong: and they threw her down, and the wall was sprinkled with her blood, and the hoofs of the horses trod upon her.
34彼が中に入り、飲み食いした後、彼は言った。「さあ、この呪われた女の始末をして、彼女を葬れ。彼女は王の娘だからだ。」
34And when he was come in, to eat, and to drink, he said: Go, and see after that cursed woman, and bury her: because she is a king’s daughter.
35彼らは彼女を葬りに行ったが、頭蓋骨と両足と手のひらのほかには何も見つからなかった。
35And when they went to bury her, they found nothing but the skull, and the feet, and the extremities of her hands.
36それゆえ彼らは戻って来て、彼に告げた。彼は言った。「これは主の言葉だ。主がそのしもべであるティシュベ人エリヤを通して語られた。『犬がイズレエルの地所でイゼベルの肉を食うであろう。
36And coming back they told him. And Jehu said: It is the word of the Lord, which he spoke by his servant Elias the Thesbite, saying: In the field of Jezrahel the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezabel,
37イゼベルの死体は、イズレエルの地所で野の肥やしのようになる。だれも『これがイゼベルだ』と見分けることはできない。』」
37And the flesh of Jezabel shall be as dung upon the face of the earth in the field of Jezrahel, so that they who pass by shall say: Is this that same Jezabel?
