1ですから、キリストが私たちのために肉において苦しまれた以上、あなたがたも同じ思いで自らを武装しなさい。肉において苦しんだ者は、罪を断ったからです。
1Christ therefore having suffered in the flesh, be you also armed with the same thought: for he that hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sins:
2それは、肉体に残された生涯を、もはや人間の欲望のためではなく、神の御心のために生きるためです。
2That now he may live the rest of his time in the flesh, not after the desires of men, but according to the will of God.
3これまで、私たちは異邦人の望むことを行い、みだらな行い、欲望、酒に酔う宴会、放縦な騒ぎ、酒宴、忌まわしい偶像礼拝にふけってきました。それでもう十分です。
3For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and unlawful worshipping of idols.
4彼らは、あなたがたが自分たちと一緒に、同じ度を越した放蕩へ走らないので、不思議に思い、悪口を言っています。
4Wherein they think it strange, that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness, speaking evil of you.
5彼らは、生きている者と死んだ者とを裁こうとしておられる方に、申し開きをすることになります。
5Who shall render account to him, who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6この目的のために、死んだ人々にも福音が宣べ伝えられました。それは、肉においては人として裁かれても、霊においては神に従って生きるためです。
6For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to the dead: that they might be judged indeed according to men, in the flesh; but may live according to God, in the Spirit.
7万物の終わりが近づいています。ですから、祈るために分別を保ち、身を慎みなさい。
7But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore, and watch in prayers.
8何よりも、互いに熱心に愛し合いなさい。愛は多くの罪を覆うからです。
8But before all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covereth a multitude of sins.
9不平を言わず、互いにもてなし合いなさい。
9Using hospitality one towards another, without murmuring,
10一人ひとりが受けた賜物を用いて互いに仕え、さまざまな形で与えられる神の恵みの良い管理者となりなさい。
10As every man hath received grace, ministering the same one to another: as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11語る人は、神の御言葉を語る者として語りなさい。仕える人は、神が与えてくださる力によって仕えなさい。それは、すべてのことにおいて、イエス・キリストを通して神があがめられるためです。その方に栄光と支配が永遠にありますように。アーメン。
11If any man speak, let him speak, as the words of God. If any man minister, let him do it, as of the power, which God administereth: that in all things God may be honoured through Jesus Christ: to whom is glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen.
12愛する者たちよ。あなたがたを試すために降りかかっている火の試練を、何か思いがけないことが起こったかのように、不思議に思ってはなりません。
12Dearly beloved, think not strange the burning heat which is to try you, as if some new thing happened to you;
13むしろ、キリストの苦難にあずかっているのですから、喜びなさい。それは、キリストの栄光が現れる時、あなたがたがこの上ない喜びにあふれるためです。
13But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
14キリストの名のために侮辱されるなら、あなたがたは幸いです。栄光の霊、すなわち神の霊が、あなたがたの上にとどまっておられるからです。彼らはこの方を冒涜しますが、あなたがたはあがめています。
14If you be reproached for the name of Christ, you shall be blessed: for that which is of the honour, glory, and power of God, and that which is his Spirit, resteth upon you.
15あなたがたのうち、殺人者、盗人、悪を行う者、他人のことに干渉する者として苦しむ人がいてはなりません。
15But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a railer, or a coveter of other men’s things.
16しかし、キリスト者であるために苦しむのであれば、恥じることなく、このことで神をあがめなさい。
16But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.
17神の家から裁きが始まる時が来ているからです。まず私たちから始まるのであれば、神の福音に従わない者たちの結末は、どうなるでしょうか。
17For the time is, that judgment should begin at the house of God. And if first at us, what shall be the end of them that believe not the gospel of God?
18「義人がかろうじて救われるのであれば、神を敬わない者や罪人はどうなるのか」。
18And if the just man shall scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19ですから、神の御心に従って苦しむ人々も、善を行いながら、真実な創造者である神に、自分自身を委ねなさい。
19Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God, commend their souls in good deeds to the faithful Creator.
