1A wise son heareth the doctrine of his father: but he that is a scorner, beareth not when he is reproved.
1Con khôn ngoan nghe sự khuyên dạy của cha; Song kẻ nhạo báng không khứng nghe lời quở trách.
2Of the fruit of his own mouth shall a man be filled with good things: but the soul of transgressors is wicked.
2Nhờ bông trái của miệng mình, người hưởng lấy sự lành; Còn linh hồn kẻ gian ác sẽ ăn điều cường bạo.
3He that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his soul: but he that hath no guard on his speech shall meet with evils.
3Kẻ canh giữ miệng mình, giữ được mạng sống mình; Nhưng kẻ nào hở môi quá, bèn bị bại hoại.
4The sluggard willeth and willeth not: but the soul of them that work, shall be made fat.
4Lòng kẻ biếng nhác mong ước, mà chẳng có chi hết; Còn lòng người siêng năng sẽ được no nê.
5The just shall hate a lying word: but the wicked confoundeth, and shall be confounded.
5Người công bình ghét lời dối trá; Song kẻ hung ác đáng gớm ghê và bị hổ thẹn.
6Justice keepeth the way of the innocent: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
6Sự công bình bảo hộ người ăn ở ngay thẳng; Nhưng sự gian ác đánh đổ kẻ phạm tội.
7One is as it were rich, when he hath nothing: and another is as it were poor, when he hath great riches.
7Có kẻ làm bộ giàu, mà chẳng có gì hết; Cũng có người làm bộ nghèo, lại có của cải nhiều.
8The ransom of a man’s life are his riches: but he that is poor beareth not reprehension.
8Giá chuộc mạng sống loài người, ấy là của cải mình; Còn kẻ nghèo chẳng hề nghe lời hăm dọa.
9The light of the just giveth joy: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
9Sự sáng của kẻ lành soi rạng ngời; Nhưng đèn kẻ ác lại bị tắt đi.
10Among the proud there are always contentions: but they that do all things with counsel, are ruled by wisdom.
10Sự kiêu ngạo chỉ sanh ra điều cãi lộn; Còn sự khôn ngoan ở với người chịu lời khuyên dạy.
11Substance got in haste shall be diminished: but that which by little and little is gathered with the hand shall increase.
11Hoạch tài ắt phải hao bớt; Còn ai lấy tay thâu góp sẽ được thêm của nhiều lên.
12Hope that is deferred afflicteth the soul: desire when it cometh is a tree of life.
12Sự trông cậy trì hoãn khiến lòng bị đau đớn; Nhưng khi sự ước ao được thành, thì giống như một cây sự sống.
13Whosoever speaketh ill of any thing, bindeth himself for the time to come: but he that feareth the commandment, shall dwell in peace. Deceitful souls go astray in sins: the just are merciful, and shew mercy.
13Kẻ nào khinh lời dạy, ắt bị hư bại; Còn ai kính sợ giới mạng, nấy được ban thưởng.
14The law of the wise is a fountain of life, that he may decline from the ruin of death.
14Sự dạy dỗ của người khôn ngoan vốn một nguồn sự sống, Đặng khiến người ta tránh khỏi bẫy sự chết.
15Good instruction shall give grace: in the way of scorners is a deep pit.
15Sự thông sáng thật được ân điển; Song con đường kẻ phạm tội lấy làm khốn cực thay.
16The prudent mall doth all things with counsel: but he that is a fool, layeth open his folly.
16Phàm người khôn khéo làm việc cứ theo sự hiểu biết; Nhưng kẻ ngu muội bày tỏ ra sự điên dại mình.
17The messenger of the wicked shall fall into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
17Sứ giả gian ác sa vào tai họa; Còn khâm sai trung tín khác nào thuốc hay.
18Poverty and shame to him that refuseth instruction: but he that yieldeth to reproof, shall be glorified.
18Ai chối sự khuyên dạy sẽ bị nghèo khổ và sỉ nhục; Nhưng kẻ nào nhận tiếp lời quở trách sẽ được tôn trọng.
19The desire that is accomplished, delighteth the soul: fools hate them that flee from evil things.
19Sự ước ao mà được thành lấy làm êm dịu cho linh hồn; Còn lìa bỏ điều dữ, quả là sự gớm ghiếc cho kẻ ngu muội.
20He that walketh with the wise, shall be wise: a friend of fools shall become like to them.
20Ai giao tiếp với người khôn ngoan, trở nên khôn ngoan; Nhưng kẻ làm bạn với bọn điên dại sẽ bị tàn hại.
21Evil pursueth sinners: and to the just good shall be repaid.
21Tai họa đuổi theo kẻ có tội; Còn phước lành là phần thưởng của người công bình.
22The good man leaveth heirs, sons, and grandsons: and the substance of the sinner is kept for the just.
22Người lành lưu truyền gia sản cho con cháu mình; Song của cải kẻ có tội dành cho người công bình.
23Much food is in the tillage of fathers: but for others it is gathered with out judgment.
23Chỗ người nghèo khai phá sanh nhiều lương thực; Nhưng có kẻ bị tiêu mất tại vì thiếu sự công bình;
24He that spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him correcteth him betimes.
24Người nào kiêng roi vọt ghét con trai mình; Song ai thương con ắt cần lo sửa trị nó.
25The just eateth and filleth his soul: but the belly of the wicked is never to be filled.
25Người công bình ăn cho phỉ dạ mình; Còn bụng kẻ ác bị đói.
