1掃羅 家和 大衛 家爭戰許久。 大衛 家日見強盛； 掃羅 家日見衰弱。
1Now the war between the house of Saul and the house of David was protracted. And David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
2大衛 在 希伯崙 得了幾個兒子：長子 暗嫩 是 耶斯列 人 亞希暖 所生的；
2And sons were born to David in Hebron: His firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam of Jezreel;
3次子 基利押 是作過 迦密 人 拿八 的妻 亞比該 所生的；三子 押沙龍 是 基述 王 達買 的女兒 瑪迦 所生的；
3his second was Chileab, by Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel; his third was Absalom, the son of Maacah daughter of King Talmai of Geshur;
4四子 亞多尼雅 是 哈及 所生的；五子 示法提雅 是 亞比她 所生的；
4his fourth was Adonijah, the son of Haggith; his fifth was Shephatiah, the son of Abital;
5六子 以特念 是 大衛 的妻 以格拉 所生的。 大衛 這六個兒子都是在 希伯崙 生的。
5and his sixth was Ithream, by David’s wife Eglah. These sons were born to David in Hebron.
6掃羅 家和 大衛 家爭戰的時候， 押尼珥 在 掃羅 家大有權勢。
6During the war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner had continued to strengthen his position in the house of Saul.
7掃羅 有一妃嬪，名叫 利斯巴 ，是 愛亞 的女兒。一日， 伊施波設 對 押尼珥 說：「你為甚麼與我父的妃嬪同房呢？」
7Meanwhile, Saul had a concubine named Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. So Ish-bosheth questioned Abner, “Why did you sleep with my father’s concubine?”
8押尼珥 因 伊施波設 的話就甚發怒，說：「我豈是 猶大 的狗頭呢？我恩待你父 掃羅 的家和他的弟兄、朋友，不將你交在 大衛 手裏，今日你竟為這婦人責備我嗎？
8Abner was furious over Ish-bosheth’s accusation. “Am I the head of a dog that belongs to Judah?” he asked. “All this time I have been loyal to the house of your father Saul, to his brothers, and to his friends. I have not delivered you into the hand of David, but now you accuse me of wrongdoing with this woman!
9我若不照着耶和華起誓應許 大衛 的話行，廢去 掃羅 的位，建立 大衛 的位，使他治理 以色列 和 猶大 ，從 但 直到 別是巴 ，願上帝重重地降罰與我！」
9May God punish Abner, and ever so severely, if I do not do for David what the LORD has sworn to him:

10to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and to establish the throne of David over Israel and Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.”
11伊施波設 懼怕 押尼珥 ，不敢回答一句。
11And for fear of Abner, Ish-bosheth did not dare to say another word to him.
12押尼珥 打發人去見 大衛 ，替他說：「這國歸誰呢？」又說：「你與我立約，我必幫助你，使 以色列 人都歸服你。」
12Then Abner sent messengers in his place to say to David, “To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and surely my hand will be with you to bring all Israel over to you.”
13大衛 說：「好！我與你立約。但有一件，你來見我面的時候，若不將 掃羅 的女兒 米甲 帶來，必不得見我的面。」
13“Good,” replied David, “I will make a covenant with you. But there is one thing I require of you: Do not appear before me unless you bring Saul’s daughter Michal when you come to see me.”
14大衛 就打發人去見 掃羅 的兒子 伊施波設 ，說：「你要將我的妻 米甲 歸還我；她是我從前用一百 非利士 人的陽皮所聘定的。」
14Then David sent messengers to say to Ish-bosheth son of Saul, “Give me back my wife, Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for a hundred Philistine foreskins.”
15伊施波設 就打發人去，將 米甲 從 拉億 的兒子、她丈夫 帕鐵 那裏接回來。
15So Ish-bosheth sent and took Michal from her husband Paltiel son of Laish.
16米甲 的丈夫跟着她，一面走一面哭，直跟到 巴戶琳 。 押尼珥 說：「你回去吧！」 帕鐵 就回去了。
16Her husband followed her, weeping all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Go back.” So he returned home.
17押尼珥 對 以色列 長老說：「從前你們願意 大衛 作王治理你們，
17Now Abner conferred with the elders of Israel and said, “In the past you sought David as your king.
18現在你們可以照心願而行。因為耶和華曾論到 大衛 說：『我必藉我僕人 大衛 的手，救我民 以色列 脫離 非利士 人和眾仇敵的手。』」
18Now take action, because the LORD has said to David, ‘Through My servant David I will save My people Israel from the hands of the Philistines and of all their enemies.’”
19押尼珥 也用這話說給 便雅憫 人聽，又到 希伯崙 ，將 以色列 人和 便雅憫 全家一切所喜悅的事說給 大衛 聽。
19Abner also spoke to the Benjamites and went to Hebron to tell David all that seemed good to Israel and to the whole house of Benjamin.
20押尼珥 帶着二十個人來到 希伯崙 見 大衛 ， 大衛 就為 押尼珥 和他帶來的人設擺筵席。
20When Abner and twenty of his men came to David at Hebron, David held a feast for them.
21押尼珥 對 大衛 說：「我要起身去招聚 以色列 眾人來見我主我王，與你立約，你就可以照着心願作王。」於是 大衛 送 押尼珥 去， 押尼珥 就平平安安地去了。
21Then Abner said to David, “Let me go at once, and I will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may rule over all that your heart desires.” So David dismissed Abner, and he went in peace.
22約押 和 大衛 的僕人攻擊敵軍，帶回許多的掠物。那時 押尼珥 不在 希伯崙 大衛 那裏，因 大衛 已經送他去，他也平平安安地去了。
22Just then David’s soldiers and Joab returned from a raid, bringing with them a great plunder. But Abner was not with David in Hebron because David had sent him on his way in peace.
23約押 和跟隨他的全軍到了，就有人告訴 約押 說：「 尼珥 的兒子 押尼珥 來見王，王送他去，他也平平安安地去了。」
23When Joab and all his troops arrived, he was informed, “Abner son of Ner came to see the king, who sent him on his way in peace.”
24約押 去見王說：「你這是做甚麼呢？ 押尼珥 來見你，你為何送他去，他就蹤影不見了呢？
24So Joab went to the king and said, “What have you done? Look, Abner came to you. Why did you dismiss him? Now he is getting away!
25你當曉得， 尼珥 的兒子 押尼珥 來是要誆哄你，要知道你的出入和你一切所行的事。」
25Surely you realize that Abner son of Ner came to deceive you and to track your movements and all that you are doing.”
26約押 從 大衛 那裏出來，就打發人去追趕 押尼珥 ，在 西拉井 追上他，將他帶回來， 大衛 卻不知道。
26As soon as Joab had left David, he sent messengers after Abner, who brought him back from the well of Sirah; but David was unaware of it.
27押尼珥 回到 希伯崙 ， 約押 領他到城門的甕洞，假作要與他說機密話，就在那裏刺透他的肚腹，他便死了。這是報殺他兄弟 亞撒黑 的仇。
27When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab pulled him aside into the gateway, as if to speak to him privately, and there Joab stabbed him in the stomach. So Abner died on account of the blood of Joab’s brother Asahel.
28大衛 聽見了，就說：「流 尼珥 的兒子 押尼珥 的血，這罪在耶和華面前必永不歸我和我的國。
28Afterward, David heard about this and said, “I and my kingdom are forever guiltless before the LORD concerning the blood of Abner son of Ner.
29願流他血的罪歸到 約押 頭上和他父的全家；又願 約押 家不斷有患漏症的，長大痲瘋的，架柺而行的，被刀殺死的，缺乏飲食的。」
29May it whirl over the heads of Joab and the entire house of his father, and may the house of Joab never be without one having a discharge or skin disease, or one who leans on a staff or falls by the sword or lacks food.”
30約押 和他兄弟 亞比篩 殺了 押尼珥 ，是因 押尼珥 在 基遍 爭戰的時候殺了他們的兄弟 亞撒黑 。
30(Joab and his brother Abishai murdered Abner because he had killed their brother Asahel in the battle at Gibeon.)
31大衛 吩咐 約押 和跟隨他的眾人說：「你們當撕裂衣服，腰束麻布，在 押尼珥 棺 前哀哭。」 大衛 王也跟在棺後。
31Then David ordered Joab and all the people with him, “Tear your clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner.” And King David himself walked behind the funeral bier.
32他們將 押尼珥 葬在 希伯崙 。王在 押尼珥 的墓旁放聲而哭，眾民也都哭了。
32When they buried Abner in Hebron, the king wept aloud at Abner’s tomb, and all the people wept.
33王為 押尼珥 舉哀，說： 押尼珥 何竟像愚頑人死呢？
33And the king sang this lament for Abner: “Should Abner die the death of a fool?
34你手未曾捆綁，腳未曾鎖住。 你死，如人死在罪孽之輩手下一樣。 於是眾民又為 押尼珥 哀哭。
34Your hands were not bound, your feet were not fettered. As a man falls before the wicked, so also you fell.” And all the people wept over him even more.
35日頭未落的時候，眾民來勸 大衛 吃飯，但 大衛 起誓說：「我若在日頭未落以前吃飯，或吃別物，願上帝重重地降罰與我！」
35Then all the people came and urged David to eat something while it was still day, but David took an oath, saying, “May God punish me, and ever so severely, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun sets!”
36眾民知道了就都喜悅。凡王所行的，眾民無不喜悅。
36All the people took note and were pleased. In fact, everything the king did pleased them.
37那日， 以色列 眾民才知道殺 尼珥 的兒子 押尼珥 並非出於王意。
37So on that day all the troops and all Israel were convinced that the king had no part in the murder of Abner son of Ner.
38王對臣僕說：「你們豈不知今日 以色列 人中死了一個作元帥的大丈夫嗎？
38Then the king said to his servants, “Do you not realize that a great prince has fallen today in Israel?
39我雖然受膏為王，今日還是軟弱；這 洗魯雅 的兩個兒子比我剛強。願耶和華照着惡人所行的惡報應他。」
39And I am weak this day, though anointed as king, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too fierce for me. May the LORD repay the evildoer according to his evil!”
