1過了一年，到列王出戰的時候， 大衛 又差派 約押 ，率領臣僕和 以色列 眾人出 戰 。他們就打敗 亞捫 人，圍攻 拉巴 。 大衛 仍住在 耶路撒冷 。
1And it came to pass at the return of the year, at the time when kings go forth to war, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel, and they spoiled the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabba: but David remained in Jerusalem.
2一日，太陽平西， 大衛 從床上起來，在王宮的平頂上遊行，看見一個婦人沐浴，容貌甚美，
2In the mean time it happened that David arose from his bed after noon, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and he saw from the roof of his house a woman washing herself, over against him: and the woman was very beautiful.
3大衛 就差人打聽那婦人是誰。有人說：「她是 以連 的女兒， 赫 人 烏利亞 的妻 拔示巴 。」
3And the king sent, and inquired who the woman was. And it was told him, that she was Bethsabee the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Urias the Hethite.
4大衛 差人去，將婦人接來；那時她的月經才得潔淨。她來了， 大衛 與她同房，她就回家去了。
4And David sent messengers, and took her, and she came in to him, and he slept with her: and presently she was purified from her uncleanness:
5於是她懷了孕，打發人去告訴 大衛 說：「我懷了孕。」
5And she returned to her house having conceived. And she sent and told David, and said: I have conceived.
6大衛 差人到 約押 那裏， 說 ：「你打發 赫 人 烏利亞 到我這裏來。」 約押 就打發 烏利亞 去見 大衛 。
6And David sent to Joab, saying: Send me Urias the Hethite. And Joab sent Urias to David.
7烏利亞 來了， 大衛 問 約押 好，也問兵好，又問爭戰的事怎樣。
7And Urias came to David. And David asked how Joab did, and the people, and how the war was carried on.
8大衛 對 烏利亞 說：「你回家去，洗洗腳吧！」 烏利亞 出了王宮，隨後王送他一分 食 物。
8And David said to Urias: Go into thy house, and wash thy feet. And Urias went out from the king’s house, and there went out after him a mess of meat from the king.
9烏利亞 卻和他主人的僕人一同睡在宮門外，沒有回家去。
9But Urias slept before the gate of the king’s house, with the other servants of his lord, and went not down to his own house.
10有人告訴 大衛 說：「 烏利亞 沒有回家去。」 大衛 就問 烏利亞 說：「你從遠路上來，為甚麼不回家去呢？」
10And it was told David by some that said: Urias went not to his house. And David said to Urias: Didst thou not come from thy journey? why didst thou not go down to thy house?
11烏利亞 對 大衛 說：「 約 櫃和 以色列 與 猶大 兵都住在棚裏，我主 約押 和我主的僕人都在田野安營，我豈可回家吃喝、與妻子同寢呢？我敢在王面前起誓：我決不行這事！」
11And Urias said to David: The ark of God and Israel and Juda dwell in tents, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord abide upon the face of the earth: and shall I go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to sleep with my wife? By thy welfare and by the welfare of thy soul I will not do this thing.
12大衛 吩咐 烏利亞 說：「你今日仍住在這裏，明日我打發你去。」於是 烏利亞 那日和次日住在 耶路撒冷 。
12Then David said to Urias: Tarry here today, and tomorrow I will send thee away. Urias tarried in Jerusalem that day and the next.
13大衛 召了 烏利亞 來，叫他在自己面前吃喝，使他喝醉。到了晚上， 烏利亞 出去與他主的僕人一同住宿，還沒有回到家裏去。
13And David called him to eat and to drink before him, and he made him drunk: and he went out in the evening, and slept on his couch with the servants of his lord, and went not down into his house.
14次日早晨， 大衛 寫信與 約押 ，交 烏利亞 隨手帶去。
14And when the morning was come, David wrote a letter to Joab: and sent it by the hand of Urias,
15信內寫着說：「要派 烏利亞 前進，到陣勢極險之處，你們便退後，使他被殺。」
15Writing in the letter: Set ye Urias in the front of the battle, where the fight is strongest: and leave ye him, that he may be wounded and die.
16約押 圍城的時候，知道敵人那裏有勇士，便將 烏利亞 派在那裏。
16Wherefore as Joab was besieging the city, he put Urias in the place where he knew the bravest men were.
17城裏的人出來和 約押 打仗； 大衛 的僕人中有幾個被殺的， 赫 人 烏利亞 也死了。
17And the men coming out of the city, fought against Joab, and there fell some of the people of the servants of David, and Urias the Hethite was killed also.
18於是， 約押 差人去將爭戰的一切事告訴 大衛 ，
18Then Joab sent, and told David all things concerning the battle.
19又囑咐使者說：「你把爭戰的一切事對王說完了，
19And he charged the messenger, saying: When thou hast told all the words of the battle to the king,
20王若發怒，問你說：『你們打仗為甚麼挨近城牆呢？豈不知敵人必從城上射箭嗎？
20If thou see him to be angry, and he shall say: Why did you approach so near to the wall to fight? knew you not that many darts are thrown from above off the wall?
21從前打死 耶路‧比設 兒子 亞比米勒 的是誰呢？豈不是一個婦人從城上拋下一塊上磨石來，打在他身上，他就死在 提備斯 嗎？你們為甚麼挨近城牆呢？』你就說：『王的僕人－ 赫 人 烏利亞 也死了。』」
21Who killed Abimelech the son of Jerobaal? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, and slew him in Thebes? Why did you go near the wall? Thou shalt say: Thy servant Urias the Hethite is also slain.
22使者起身，來見 大衛 ，照着 約押 所吩咐他的話奏告 大衛 。
22So the messenger departed, and came and told David all that Joab had commanded him.
23使者對 大衛 說：「敵人強過我們，出到郊野與我們打仗，我們追殺他們，直到城門口。
23And the messenger said to David: The men prevailed against us, and they came out to us into the field: and we vigorously charged and pursued them even to the gate of the city.
24射箭的從城上射王的僕人，射死幾個， 赫 人 烏利亞 也死了。」
24And the archers shot their arrows at thy servants from off the wall above: and some of the king’s servants are slain, and thy servant Urias the Hethite is also dead.
25王向使者說：「你告訴 約押 說：『不要因這事愁悶，刀劍或吞滅這人或吞滅那人，沒有一定的；你只管竭力攻城，將城傾覆。』可以用這話勉勵 約押 。」
25And David said to the messenger: Thus shalt thou say to Joab: Let not this thing discourage thee: for various is the event of war: and sometimes one, sometimes another is consumed by the sword: encourage thy warriors against The city, and exhort them that thou mayest overthrow it.
26烏利亞 的妻聽見丈夫 烏利亞 死了，就為他哀哭。
26And the wife of Urias heard that Urias her husband was dead, and she mourned for him.
27哀哭的日子過了， 大衛 差人將她接到宮裏，她就作了 大衛 的妻，給 大衛 生了一個兒子。但 大衛 所行的這事，耶和華甚不喜悅。
27And the mourning being over, David sent and brought her into his house, and she became his wife, and she bore him a son: and this thing which David had done, was displeasing to the Lord.
