1大衛 對 掃羅 說完了話， 約拿單 的心與 大衛 的心深相契合。 約拿單 愛 大衛 ，如同愛自己的性命。
1And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2那日 掃羅 留住 大衛 ，不容他再回父家。
2And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.
3約拿單 愛 大衛 如同愛自己的性命，就與他結盟。
3Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul.
4約拿單 從身上脫下外袍，給了 大衛 ，又將戰衣、刀、弓、腰帶都給了他。
4And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his apparel, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
5掃羅 無論差遣 大衛 往何處去，他都做事精明。 掃羅 就立他作戰士長，眾百姓和 掃羅 的臣僕無不喜悅。
5And David went out; whithersoever Saul sent him, he had good success; and Saul set him over the men of war; and it was good in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.
6大衛 打死了那 非利士 人，同眾人回來的時候，婦女們從 以色列 各城裏出來，歡歡喜喜，打鼓擊磬，歌唱跳舞，迎接 掃羅 王。
6And it came to pass as they came, when David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with timbrels, with joy, and with three-stringed instruments.
7眾婦女舞蹈唱和，說：「 掃羅 殺死千千， 大衛 殺死萬萬。」
7And the women sang one to another in their play, and said: Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
8掃羅 甚發怒，不喜悅這話，就說：「將萬萬歸 大衛 ，千千歸我，只剩下王位沒有給他了。」
8And Saul was very wroth, and this saying displeased him; and he said: 'They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands; and all he lacketh is the kingdom!'
9從這日起， 掃羅 就怒視 大衛 。
9And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
10次日，從上帝那裏來的惡魔大大降在 掃羅 身上，他就在家中胡言亂語。 大衛 照常彈琴， 掃羅 手裏拿着槍。
10And it came to pass on the morrow, that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house; and David played with his hand, as he did day by day; and Saul had his spear in his hand.
11掃羅 把槍一掄，心裏說，我要將 大衛 刺透，釘在牆上。 大衛 躲避他兩次。
11And Saul cast the spear; for he said: 'I will smite David even to the wall.' And David stepped aside out of his presence twice.
12掃羅 懼怕 大衛 ；因為耶和華離開自己，與 大衛 同在。
12And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13所以 掃羅 使 大衛 離開自己，立他為千夫長，他就領兵出入。
13Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14大衛 做事無不精明，耶和華也與他同在。
14And David had great success in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.
15掃羅 見 大衛 做事精明，就甚怕他。
15And when Saul saw that he had great success, he stood in awe of him.
16但 以色列 和 猶大 眾人都愛 大衛 ，因為他領他們出入。
16But all Israel and Judah loved David; for he went out and came in before them.
17掃羅 對 大衛 說：「我將大女兒 米拉 給你為妻，只要你為我奮勇，為耶和華爭戰。」 掃羅 心裏說：「我不好親手害他，要藉 非利士 人的手害他。」
17And Saul said to David: 'Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife; only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD'S battles.' For Saul said: 'Let not my hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.'
18大衛 對 掃羅 說：「我是誰，我是甚麼出身，我父家在 以色列 中是何等的家，豈敢作王的女婿呢？」
18And David said unto Saul: 'Who am I, and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?'
19掃羅 的女兒 米拉 到了當給 大衛 的時候， 掃羅 卻給了 米何拉 人 亞得列 為妻。
19But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.
20掃羅 的次女 米甲 愛 大衛 。有人告訴 掃羅 ， 掃羅 就喜悅。
20And Michal Saul's daughter loved David; and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
21掃羅 心裏說：「我將這女兒給 大衛 ，作他的網羅，好藉 非利士 人的手害他。」所以 掃羅 對 大衛 說：「你今日可以第二次作我的女婿。」
21And Saul said: 'I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.' Wherefore Saul said to David: 'Thou shalt this day be my son-in-law through the one of the twain.'
22掃羅 吩咐臣僕 說 ：「你們暗中對 大衛 說：『王喜悅你，王的臣僕也都喜愛你，所以你當作王的女婿。』」
22And Saul commanded his servants: 'Speak with David secretly, and say: Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee; now therefore be the king's son-in-law.'
23掃羅 的臣僕就照這話說給 大衛 聽。 大衛 說：「你們以為作王的女婿是一件小事嗎？我是貧窮卑微的人。」
23And Saul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said: 'Seemeth it to you a light thing to be the king's son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?'
24掃羅 的臣僕回奏說， 大衛 所說的如此如此。
24And the servants of Saul told him, saying: 'On this manner spoke David.'
25掃羅 說：「你們要對 大衛 這樣說：『王不要甚麼聘禮，只要一百 非利士 人的陽皮，好在王的仇敵身上報仇。』」 掃羅 的意思要使 大衛 喪在 非利士 人的手裏。
25And Saul said: 'Thus shall ye say to David: The king desireth not any dowry, but a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies.' For Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
26掃羅 的臣僕將這話告訴 大衛 ， 大衛 就歡喜作王的女婿。日期還沒有到，
26And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law. And the days were not expired;
27大衛 和跟隨他的人起身前往，殺了二百 非利士 人，將陽皮滿數交給王，為要作王的女婿。於是 掃羅 將女兒 米甲 給 大衛 為妻。
27and David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king's son-in-law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
28掃羅 見耶和華與 大衛 同在，又知道女兒 米甲 愛 大衛 ，
28And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David; and Michal Saul's daughter loved him.
29就更怕 大衛 ，常作 大衛 的仇敵。
29And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul was David's enemy continually.
30每逢 非利士 軍長出來 打仗 ， 大衛 比 掃羅 的臣僕做事精明，因此他的名被人尊重。
30Then the princes of the Philistines went forth; and it came to pass, as often as they went forth, that David prospered more than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
