Baibala Hemolele (Hawaiian Bible, 1868 revision)
1Wisdom has built her house. She has carved out her seven pillars.
1KUKULU ae la ka naauao i kona hale, Kalai iho la oia i kona mau kia ehiku.
2She has prepared her meat. She has mixed her wine. She has also set her table.
2Kalua oia i kana mau mea momona; Kawili ae la oia i kona waina; Hoomakaukau no i kana papaaina.
3She has sent out her maidens. She cries from the highest places of the city:
3Hoouna aku la oia i kana poe kauwawahine, E hea aku maluna o na wahi kiekie o ke kulanakauhale,
4“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” As for him who is void of understanding, she says to him,
4Owai ka mea naaupo? e huli mai ia io'u nei: I ka mea noonoo ole hoi, olelo ae la oia ia ia,
5“Come, eat some of my bread, Drink some of the wine which I have mixed!
5Ina, e ai mai oukou i ka'u berena, E inu hoi i ka waina a'u i kawili ai.
6Leave your simple ways, and live. Walk in the way of understanding.”
6E haalele i ka poe manao ole, i ola oukou, E hele hoi ma ke ala o ka naauao.
7One who corrects a mocker invites insult. One who reproves a wicked man invites abuse.
7O ka mea e ao aku i ke kanaka aia, E loaa ia ia ka hilahila; O ka mea e ao aku i ka mea hewa, e loaa ia ia ka palahea.
8Don’t reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you. Reprove a wise person, and he will love you.
8Mai ao aku i ke kanaka aia, O hoowahawaha mai oia ia oe; E ao aku i ka mea naauao, A e aloha mai oia ia oe.
9Instruct a wise person, and he will be still wiser. Teach a righteous person, and he will increase in learning.
9E haawi na ka mea naauao, A e oi mau ka naauao; E ao hoi i ka mea hoopono, A e mahuahua ae la kona ike.
10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
10O ka mole o ka naauao, Oia ka makau ia Iehova; O ka ike i ka Mea hemolele, Oia ka noonoo ana,
11For by me your days will be multiplied. The years of your life will be increased.
11No ka mea, ma o'u nei, e mahuahua ae ai kou mau la, A e nui ai hoi na makahiki o kou ola ana.
12If you are wise, you are wise for yourself. If you mock, you alone will bear it.
12Ina e naauao oe, e naauao no oe nou iho; Ina e hoowahawaha oe, maluna ou wale no ia mea.
13The foolish woman is loud, undisciplined, and knows nothing.
13O ka wahine naaupo, he walaau kona; Ua manao ole, aole oia i ike i kekahi mea.
14She sits at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
14Noho no oia ma ka puka o kona hale, Ma ka noho hoi ma kahi kiekie o ke kulanakauhale,
15to call to those who pass by, who go straight on their ways,
15E hea aku i ka poe hele ma ke ala, Ka poe hele pololei ma ke alanui;
16“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here.” As for him who is void of understanding, she says to him,
16Owai ka mea manao ole? e huli mai i o'u nei; I ka mea naaupo, olelo aku la oia ia ia,
17“Stolen water is sweet. Food eaten in secret is pleasant.”
17Ua ono no na wai i aihueia, Ua mananalo hoi ka berena ke ai malu.
18But he doesn’t know that the departed spirits are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.
18Aole nae i ike kela, malaila ka poe make, Aia kona poe hoaai ilalo loa i ka malu make.
