1Після Абимелеха виступив на рятунок Ізраїля Тола, син Пуї, сина Додового, з поколїння Іссахарового. Він жив у Самирі, на горах Ефраїмових.
1And after Abimelech there arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in the hill-country of Ephraim.
2І судив він Ізраїля двайцять і три годи; потім умер, і поховано його в Самирі.
2And he judged Israel twenty and three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.
3Після нього виступив Яїр з Галаада й судив Ізраїля двайцять і два лїта.
3And after him arose Jair, the Gileadite; and he judged Israel twenty and two years.
4У сього було трийцять синів, і їздили вони на трийцять ослицях, і було в їх трийцять міст.
4And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havvoth-jair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.
5І вмер Яїр, і поховано його в Камонї.
5And Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.
6Та чинили Ізраїлїї знов те, що не до вподоби Господеві, й служили Баалам та Астартам і богам Арамейським, і богам Сидонським, богам Моабійським, богам Аммонїйським, богам Филистійським, і покинули Господа й не шанували його.
6And the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and served the Baalim, and the Ashtaroth, and the gods of Aram, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook the LORD, and served Him not.
7І запалав гнїв Господень на Ізраїля, і віддав їх в руки Филистіям і в руки Аммонїям.
7And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He gave them over into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the children of Ammon.
8Ті мучили й гнобили Ізрайлитян від того року вісїмнайцять років, усїх синів Ізраїля по тім боцї Йорданї в землї Аморійській, що в Галаадї.
8And they oppressed and crushed the children of Israel that year; eighteen years oppressed they all the children of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
9До того ж іще перейшли Аммонїї Йордань, щоб наступити й на Юду, Бенямина й на дом Ефраїмів, так що Ізраїль був у великій нуждї.
9And the children of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was sore distressed.
10І покликнули сини Ізраїля до Господа й промовляли: Провинили ми проти тебе, що покинули нашого Бога та служили Баалові.
10And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying: 'We have sinned against Thee, in that we have forsaken our God, and have served the Baalim.'
11І відказав Господь синам Ізрайлевим: Чи не пригнїтали ж вас Египтїї, Аморії, Аммонїї та Филистії,
11And the LORD said unto the children of Israel: 'Did not I save you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?
12Та Сидонїї, Гамаликії та Мадиянїї? Тодї звали ви до мене, й я рятував вас із рук їх;
12The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried unto Me, and I saved you out of their hand.
13Ви ж покинули мене та служили богам другим; за те я не стану рятувати вас вже далїй:
13Yet ye have forsaken Me, and served other gods; wherefore I will save you no more.
14Ійдїт собі та лучше до тих богів, що вибрали собі; нехай рятують вас в тїснотї.
14Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.'
15І промовили тодї сини Ізрайлеві до Господа: Провинили ми; чини з нами все, що схочеш, тільки визволь нас тепер.
15And the children of Israel said unto the LORD: 'We have sinned; do Thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto Thee; only deliver us, we pray Thee, this day.'
16І повідкидали від себе чужі боги й почали служити одному Господу, й не стерпів він злиднїв Ізраїля.
16And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD; and His soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
17Змовились тодї Аммонїї та й отаборились у Галаадї. Зібрались і сини Ізрайлеві та й отаборились під Массифою.
17Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpah.
18Нарід же й князї Галаадські мовляли один до одного: Хто розпочав би війну з Аммонїями, той буде головою над усїма осадниками Галаадськими.
18And the people, the princes of Gilead, said one to another: 'What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.'
