Lea Fakatātā 5

Tongan Bible, Revised West Version
Douay-Rheims Bible, American Edition (1899)
1‌ʻE hoku foha, tokanga ki heʻeku poto, pea ke fakaongo ho telinga ki heʻeku ʻilo:
1My son, attend to my wisdom, and incline thy ear to my prudence.
2Koeʻuhi ke ke tokangaʻi ʻae fakapotopoto, pea ke maʻu pe ʻi ho loungutu ʻae ʻilo.
2That thou mayst keep thoughts, and thy lips may preserve instruction. Mind not the deceit of a woman.
3He ʻoku toʻi ʻae loungutu ʻoe fefine muli ʻo hangē ko e ngeʻesi ʻoe honi, pea ʻoku molemole lahi hake ʻi he lolo ʻa hono ngutu:
3For the lips of a harlot are like a honeycomb dropping, and her throat is smoother than oil.
4Ka ʻoku tatau mo e kona ʻīʻī ʻa hono ikuʻanga, ʻo māsila ʻo hangē ha heletā fakatoumata.
4But her end is bitter as wormwood, and sharp as a two-edged sword.
5‌ʻOku ʻalu hifo hono vaʻe ki he mate, ʻoku fakatau atu ʻa ʻene ngaahi laka ki heli.
5Her feet go down into death, and her steps go in as far as hell.
6Pea telia naʻa ke fakakaukau ki he hala ʻoe moʻui, ʻoku fakafihi ʻe ia hono ngaahi ʻaluʻanga, ke ʻoua naʻa ke ʻiloʻi ia.
6They walk not by the path of life, her steps are wandering, and unaccountable.
7Ko ia ʻae fānau, ke mou fanongo kiate au, pea ʻoua naʻa mou hē mei he ngaahi lea ʻa hoku ngutu.
7Now therefore, my son, hear me, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8Ke fakamamaʻo ʻaupito ho hala meiate ia, pea ʻoua naʻa ke ofi ki he matapā ʻo hono fale:
8Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the doors of her house.
9Telia naʻa ke foaki ho ongolelei ki ha kakai kehe, pea moho ngaahi taʻu ki he kakai loto fakafasifasi:
9Give not thy honour to strangers, and thy years to the cruel.
10Telia naʻa pito ʻae kau muli ʻi ho mālohi; pea ʻe ʻi he fale ʻoe muli hoʻo ngaahi ngāue;
10Lest strangers be filled with thy strength, and thy labours be in another man’s house,
11Pea ke tangi mamahi ʻamui, ʻoka kai ʻo ʻosi ho kakano mo ho sino,
11And thou mourn it the last, when thou shalt have spent thy flesh and thy body, and say:
12‌ʻo ke pehē ai, “ʻOiauē, naʻe lahi ʻeku fehiʻa ki he akonaki, pea naʻe manukiʻi ʻe hoku loto ʻae valoki;
12Why have I hated instruction, and my heart consented not to reproof,
13Pea naʻe ʻikai teu talangofua ki he leʻo ʻo hoku kau akonaki, pe fakatokangaʻi hoku telinga kiate kinautolu naʻa nau ako kiate au!
13And have not heard the voice of them that taught me, and have not inclined my ear to masters?
14Naʻaku meimei kau ʻi he kovi kotoa pē, ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe haʻohaʻonga mo e fakatahaʻanga.”
14I have almost been in all evil, in the midst of the church and of the congregation.
15Inu ʻae vai mei ho lepa pe ʻoʻou, mo e vaitafe mei he vai keli pe ʻoʻou.
15Drink water out of thy own cistern, and the streams of thy own well:
16Ke tafe atu ho ngaahi mangamangaʻi vai, mo e vaitafe ʻoe ngaahi vai ki he ngaahi hala.
16Let thy fountains be conveyed abroad, and in the streets divide thy waters.
17Ke tuku ia ko hoʻo meʻa ʻaʻau pe, pea ʻoua naʻa kau ai mo koe ha muli.
17Keep them to thyself alone, neither let strangers be partakers with thee.
18Ke monūʻia ho matavai: pea ke fiefia koe ʻi ho uaifi ʻaia naʻa ke maʻu ʻi hoʻo kei talavou.
18Let thy vein be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of thy youth:
19Ke tatau pe ia mo e hainite ʻofa mo e kāseli fakaʻofoʻofa; pea ke fiemālie maʻuaipē koe ʻi hono fatafata; pea ke fakafiefiaʻi koe ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē ʻi heʻene ʻofa.
19Let her be thy dearest hind, and most agreeable fawn: let her breasts inebriate thee at all times; he thou delighted continually with her love.
20‌ʻE hoku foha, ko e hā ka ke ka hē ai ʻi he fefine muli, pea fāʻufua ki he fatafata ʻoe muli?
20Why art thou seduced, my son, by a strange woman, and art cherished in the bosom of another?
21He ʻoku tokaimaʻananga ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ʻae ngaahi hala ʻoe tangata, pea ʻoku vakai ʻe ia ʻa hono ngaahi ʻaluʻanga.
21The Lord beholdeth the ways of man, and considereth all his steps.
22‌ʻE moʻua ʻae angahala ʻi heʻene ngaahi hia ʻaʻana, pea ʻe haʻisia ʻaki ia ʻae afo ʻo ʻene angahala.
22His own iniquities catch the wicked, and he is fast bound with the ropes of his own sins.
23‌ʻE mate taʻeakonekina ia; pea ʻe hē ia ko e meʻa ʻi he lahi ʻo ʻene vale.
23He shall die, because he hath not received instruction, and in the multitude of his folly he shall be deceived.
