1Ko ia ʻoku manako ki he ako ʻoku manako ki he poto: ka ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki he valoki ʻoku anga fakamanu ia.
1He that loveth correction, loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is foolish.
2ʻOku finangalo lelei ʻa Sihova ki he tangata angalelei: ka ʻe fakamaau ʻe ia ʻae tangata ʻoku filioʻi kovi.
2He that is good, shall draw grace from the Lord: but he that trusteth in his own devices doth wickedly.
3ʻE ʻikai fokotuʻumaʻu ha tangata ʻe he angahala: ka ʻe ʻikai ngaue ʻae aka ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
3Men shall not be strengthened by wickedness: and the root of the just shall not be moved.
4Ko e fefine angalelei ko e tatā ia ki hono husepāniti: ka ko ia ʻoku fakamā ʻoku hangē ia ko e popo ki hono ngaahi hui.
4A diligent woman is a crown to her husband: and she that doth things worthy of confusion, is a rottenness in his bones.
5ʻOku totonu ʻae ngaahi mahalo ʻae māʻoniʻoni: ka ko e ngaahi fakakaukau ʻae angahala ko e kākā ia.
5The thoughts of the just are judgments: and the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.
6ʻOku alea ʻae angahala ke tatali toitoi ke lilingi toto: ka ʻoku fakamoʻui ʻakinautolu ʻe he ngutu ʻoe angatonu.
6The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood: the mouth of the just shall deliver them.
7ʻOku tulaki hifo ʻae angahala, pea ʻikai ʻakinautolu: ka ʻe tuʻumaʻu ʻae fale ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
7Turn the wicked, and they shall not be: but the house of the just shall stand firm.
8ʻE fakamālōʻia, ʻae tangata ʻo fakatatau ki heʻene poto: ka ʻe manukiʻi ia ʻaia ʻoku loto talangataʻa.
8A man shall be known by his learning: but he that is vain and foolish, shall be exposed to contempt.
9Ko ia ʻoku fehiʻanekina, ka ʻoku tauhi ia ʻe ia pe, ʻoku lelei lahi hake ia ʻiate ia ʻoku fakaongoongolelei ia, ʻe ia pe, kae masiva meʻakai.
9Better is the poor man that provideth for himself, than he that is glorious and wanteth bread.
10ʻOku tokangaʻi ʻe he tangata māʻoniʻoni ʻae moʻui ʻa ʻene manu: ka ko e manavaʻofa ʻae angahala ko e fakamālohi pe ia.
10The just regardeth the lives of his beasts: but the bowels of the wicked are cruel.
11Ko ia ʻoku faʻa keli hono potu kelekele ʻe mākona ia ʻi he meʻakai: ka ko ia ʻoku muimui ki he kakai vale ʻoku masiva ia ʻi he ʻilo.
11He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that pursueth idleness is very foolish. He that is delighted in passing his time over wine, leaveth a reproach in his strong holds.
12ʻOku manako ʻae angahala ki he kolo ʻae kakai angakovi: ka ʻoku tupu ʻae fua mei he aka ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
12The desire of the wicked is the fortification of evil men: but the root of the just shall prosper.
13ʻOku tauheleʻi ʻae angahala ʻe he talangataʻa ʻa hono loungutu: ka ʻe hao mai ʻae angatonu mei he kovi.
13For the sins of the lips ruin draweth nigh to the evil mall: but the just shall escape out of distress.
14ʻE fakamākona ʻae tangata ʻaki ʻae lelei ʻi he fua ʻo hono ngutu: pea ʻe ʻomi ki he tangata ʻae tupu ʻoe ngāue ʻa hono nima.
14By the fruit of his own mouth shall a man be filled with good things, and according to the works of his hands it shall be repaid him.
15ʻOku totonu ʻae hala ʻoe vale ʻi hono mata ʻoʻona: ka ko ia ʻoku ongoʻi ʻae akonaki ʻoku poto ia.
15The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsels.
16ʻOku ʻilo leva ʻae ʻita ʻoe vale: ka ʻoku ʻufiʻufi ʻe he tangata fakamākukanga ʻae fakamā.
16A fool immediately sheweth his anger: but he that dissembleth injuries is wise.
17Ko ia ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae moʻoni ʻoku fakahā ʻe ia ʻae māʻoniʻoni: ka ʻoku fakahā ʻae kākā ʻe he fakamoʻoni loi.
17He that speaketh that which he knoweth, sheweth forth justice: but he that lieth, is a deceitful witness.
18ʻOku ai ʻaia ʻoka lea ʻoku hangē ko e tui ʻaki ha heletā: ka ko e meʻa fakamoʻui ʻae ʻelelo ʻoe poto.
18There is that promiseth, and is pricked as it were with a sword of conscience: but the tongue of the wise is health.
19ʻE fokotuʻumaʻu ʻo taʻengata ʻae loungutu ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae moʻoni: ka ʻoku ʻosi ʻi he kemo pe taha ʻae ʻelelo ʻoku loi.
19The lip of truth shall be steadfast for ever: but he that is a hasty witness, frameth a lying tongue.
20ʻOku ai ʻae kākā ʻi he loto ʻonautolu ʻoku filioʻi kovi: ka ʻoku ai ʻae fiefia kiate kinautolu ʻoku alea ki he melino.
20Deceit is in the heart of them that think evil things: but joy followeth them that take counsels of peace.
21ʻOku ʻikai ha kovi ʻe hoko ki he angatonu: ka ʻe fakafonu ʻaki ʻae kovi ʻae angahala.
21Whatsoever shall befall the just man. it shall not make him sad: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
22Ko e meʻa fakalielia kia Sihova ʻae loungutu faʻa loi: ka ʻoku fiefia ia ʻiate kinautolu ʻoku fai fakamoʻomoʻoni.
22Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord: but they that deal faithfully please him.
23ʻOku fakafufū ʻe he tangata fakamākukanga ʻa ʻene ʻilo: ka ʻoku fakahā ʻe he loto ʻoe vale ʻae vale.
23A cautious man concealeth knowledge: and the heart of fools publisheth folly.
24ʻE maʻu ʻae pule ʻe he nima ʻoe faʻa ngāue: ka ʻe moʻulaloa ki he tukuhau ʻaia ʻoku fakapikopiko.
24The hand of the valiant shall bear rule: but that which is slothful, shall be under tribute.
25Ko e māfasia ʻi he loto ʻoe tangata ʻoku mapelu ai ia: ka ʻoku fakafiefiaʻi ia ʻe he lea lelei.
25Grief in the heart of a man shall bring him low, but with a good word he shall be made glad.
26ʻOku lelei hake ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻi hono kaungāʻapi: ka ʻoku kākāʻia ʻae angahala ʻe honau hala.
26He that neglecteth a loss for the sake of a friend, is just: but the way of the wicked shall deceive them.
27ʻOku ʻikai ke taʻo ʻe he tangata fakapikopiko ʻae meʻa naʻa ne maʻu ʻi heʻene tuli: ka ʻoku mahuʻinga ʻae koloa ʻoe tangata faʻa ngāue.
27The deceitful man shall not find gain: but the substance of a just man shall be precious gold.
28ʻOku ai ʻae moʻui ʻi he hala ʻoe māʻoniʻoni, pea ʻi hono ʻalunga ʻoku ʻikai ai ha mate.
28In the path of justice is life: but the by-way leadeth to death.
