Lea Fakatātā 28

Tongan Bible, Revised West Version
JPS Tanakh (Jewish Publication Society, 1917)
1‌ʻOku hola ʻae kakai fai kovi ʻi he ʻikai tuli ki ai ha taha: ka ʻoku toʻa ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻo hangē ko e laione.
1The wicked flee when no man pursueth; but the righteous are secure as a young lion.
2Ko e meʻa ʻi he fai hala ʻae fonua ko ia, ʻoku tupu ʻo tokolahi ai hono houʻeiki: ka koeʻuhi ko e tangata poto mo ʻiloʻilo ʻe fakatolonga ai hono lelei.
2For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof; but by a man of understanding and knowledge established order shall long continue.
3Ko e tangata masiva ʻoku fakamālohi ki he masiva, ʻoku tatau pe ia mo e ʻuha lolo ʻoku ʻauha ai ʻae meʻakai.
3A poor man that oppresseth the weak is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.
4‌ʻOku fakamālō ki he angahala ʻekinautolu ʻoku liʻaki ʻae fono: ka ʻoku fakakikihi mo kinautolu ʻakinautolu ʻoku tauhi ki he fono.
4They that forsake the law praise the wicked; but such as keep the law contend with them.
5‌ʻOku ʻikai ʻiloʻi ʻae fakamaau ʻe he kakai angakovi: ka ʻoku ʻilo ʻae meʻa kotoa pē ʻekinautolu ʻoku kumi kia Sihova.
5Evil men understand not justice; but they that seek the LORD understand all things.
6‌ʻOku lelei hake ʻaia ʻoku masiva ka ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi heʻene angatonu, ʻiate ia ʻoku koloaʻia ka ʻoku pikopiko hono ngaahi hala.
6Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
7Ko ia ʻoku fai ki he fono ko e foha poto ia: ka ko ia ʻoku kaumeʻa mo e kakai fakamaveuveu ʻoku fakamaaʻi ʻe ia ʻa ʻene tamai.
7A wise son observeth the teaching; but he that is a companion of gluttonous men shameth his father.
8Ko ia ʻoku fakalahi ʻene koloa ʻi he foaki paʻanga ke toe totongi mai, mo e fai taʻetotonu, ʻe tānaki ia ʻe ia ki ha taha ʻe manavaʻofa ki he masiva.
8He that augmenteth his substance by interest and increase, gathereth it for him that is gracious to the poor.
9Ko ia ʻoku fakatafoki hono telinga ke ʻoua naʻa ne fanongo ki he fono, ʻe hoko ʻene lotu ʻaʻana ko e meʻa fakalielia.
9He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.
10Ko ia ʻe fakahēʻi ʻae māʻoniʻoni ke ne ʻalu ʻi ha hala kovi, ʻe tō pe foki ia ki heʻene luo ʻaʻana: ka ʻe maʻu ʻe he fai totonu ʻae ngaahi meʻa lelei.
10Whoso causeth the upright to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit; but the whole-hearted shall inherit good.
11‌ʻOku poto ʻae tangata koloaʻia ʻi hono mata ʻoʻona; ka ʻoku ʻiloʻi ia ʻe he tangata masiva ʻoku faʻa fakakaukau.
11The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him through.
12‌ʻOka fiefia ʻae kakai māʻoniʻoni, ʻoku ai ʻae ongoongolelei lahi: ka ʻoka pule ʻae angahala, kuo fakafufū ʻae tangata.
12When the righteous exult, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men must be sought for.
13‌ʻE ʻikai monūʻia ia ʻaia ʻoku ʻufiʻufi ʻene ngaahi angahala: ka ko ia ʻoku vete ia mo liʻaki ʻe maʻu ʻe ia ʻae ʻaloʻofa.
13He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall obtain mercy.
14‌ʻOku monūʻia ʻae tangata ʻoku manavahē maʻuaipē: ka ʻe tō ki he kovi ʻaia ʻoku fakafefeka hono loto.
14Happy is the man that feareth alway; but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into evil.
15‌ʻO hangē ko e laione ngungulu, mo e pea ʻoku ʻoho fano; ʻoku pehē ʻae pule ʻoku angakovi ki heʻene kakai masiva.
15As a roaring lion, and a ravenous bear; so is a wicked ruler over a poor people.
16Ko e tuʻi foki ʻoku masiva ʻi he fakakaukau, ʻoku lahi ʻene fakamālohi: ka ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki he manumanu, ʻoku fakatolonga ʻe ia hono ngaahi ʻaho.
16The prince that lacketh understanding is also a great oppressor; but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.
17Ko e tangata ko ia ʻoku fai fakamālohi ki he toto ʻo ha tokotaha ʻe mole ia ki he luo; ʻoua naʻa taʻofi ia ʻe ha tokotaha.
17A man that is laden with the blood of any person shall hasten his steps unto the pit; none will support him.
18Ko ia ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi he angatonu ʻe fakamoʻui ia: ka ʻe hinga leva ia ʻaia ʻoku pikopiko hono ngaahi hala.
18Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved; but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.
19Ko ia ʻoku faʻa ngāue ki heʻene ngoue ʻe maʻu ʻe ia ʻae meʻakai lahi: ka ʻe lahi moʻoni ʻae masiva kiate ia ʻoku muimui ki he kakai taʻepoto.
19He that tilleth his ground shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain things shall have poverty enough.
20‌ʻE lahi ʻaupito ʻae tāpuaki ki he tangata ʻoku angatonu: ka ko ia ʻoku fai fakatoʻotoʻo ke ne koloaʻia ʻe ʻikai tonuhia ia.
20A faithful man shall abound with blessings; but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be unpunished.
21‌ʻOku ʻikai lelei ke filifilimānako: he ko e tangata ʻoku pehē, ʻe fai hala ia ke ne maʻu ai ha konga mā.
21To have respect of persons is not good; for a man will transgress for a piece of bread.
22‌ʻOku ʻiate ia ʻoku fai fakatoʻotoʻo ke ne koloaʻia ʻae mata ʻoku kovi, pea ʻoku ʻikai te ne tokangaʻi ʻe hoko mai ʻae masiva kiate ia.
22He that hath an evil eye hasteneth after riches, and knoweth not that want shall come upon him.
23Ko ia ʻoku lea valoki ki ha tangata ʻe maʻu ʻe ia ʻae ʻofa lahi hake, ʻamui ʻiate ia ʻoku lea lapu ʻaki ʻae ʻelelo.
23He that rebuketh a man shall in the end find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.
24Ko ia ʻoku kaihaʻa mei heʻene tamai pe ko ʻene faʻē, ʻo ne pehē, “ʻOku ʻikai ko e fai hala ia;” ʻoku kaumeʻa ia mo e tangata fakaʻauha.
24Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith: 'It is no transgression', the same is the companion of a destroyer.
25Ko ia ʻoku loto fielahi ʻoku fakatupu ʻe ia ʻae fekeʻikeʻi: ka ʻe fakamonūʻia ia ʻaia ʻoku falala kia Sihova.
25He that is of a greedy spirit stirreth up strife; but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be abundantly gratified.
26Ko ia ʻoku falala ki hono loto ʻoʻona ko e vale ia: ka ko ia ʻoku ʻalu fakapotopoto, ʻe fakahaofi ia.
26He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool; but whoso walketh wisely, he shall escape.
27Ko ia ʻoku faʻa foaki ki he masiva ʻe ʻikai masiva ia: ka ko ia ʻoku fufū hono mata ʻe lahi ʻae fakamalaʻia ʻe hoko ki ai.
27He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack; but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.
28‌ʻOka hakeakiʻi ʻae angahala, ʻoku toitoi ʻae kakai: ka ʻoka ʻauha ʻakinautolu, ʻoku tupu ʻo tokolahi ʻae māʻoniʻoni.
28When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous increase.
