1วันที่ยี่สิบเอ็ด เดือนที่เจ็ด พระยาห์เวห์กล่าวผ่านฮักกัยผู้ประกาศสารจากพระเจ้าว่า
1In the four and twentieth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king, they began.
2“ตอนนี้จงพูดกับเศรุบบาเบลบุตรเชอัลทิเอล ผู้ว่าการยูดาห์ กับโยชูวาบุตรเยโฮซาดัก หัวหน้าปุโรหิต และกับประชาชนที่เหลืออยู่ว่า
2And in the seventh month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Aggeus the prophet, saying:
3‘ในหมู่พวกคุณยังเหลือใครที่เคยเห็นพระวิหารนี้ในเกียรติรุ่งเรืองครั้งก่อน? ตอนนี้พวกคุณเห็นพระวิหารนี้เป็นอย่างไร? ในสายตาพวกคุณก็เหมือนไม่มีอะไรเลยไม่ใช่หรือ?
3Speak to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel the governor of Juda, and to Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and to the rest of the people, saying:
4แต่ตอนนี้ เศรุบบาเบล จงเข้มแข็ง’ พระยาห์เวห์กล่าว ‘โยชูวาบุตรเยโฮซาดัก หัวหน้าปุโรหิต จงเข้มแข็ง ประชาชนทั้งแผ่นดิน จงเข้มแข็ง’ พระยาห์เวห์กล่าว ‘จงลงมือทำงาน เพราะเราอยู่กับพวกคุณ’ พระยาห์เวห์จอมทัพกล่าว
4Who is left among you, that saw this house in its first glory? and how do you see it now? is it not in comparison to that as nothing in your eyes?
5นี่คือถ้อยคำที่เราให้คำมั่นสัญญาไว้กับพวกคุณ เมื่อพวกคุณออกจากอียิปต์ และพระวิญญาณของเราอาศัยอยู่ท่ามกลางพวกคุณ ‘อย่ากลัว’
5Yet now take courage, O Zorobabel, saith the Lord, and take courage, O Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and take courage, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord of hosts: and perform (for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts)
6เพราะพระยาห์เวห์จอมทัพกล่าวดังนี้ ‘อีกครั้งหนึ่ง อีกไม่นาน เราจะเขย่าฟ้าสวรรค์ แผ่นดินโลก ทะเล และแผ่นดินแห้ง
6The word that I covenanted with you when you came out of the land of Egypt: and my spirit shall be in the midst of you: fear not.
7จะเขย่าทุกชาติ ทรัพย์สมบัติของทุกชาติจะมาถึง เราจะเติมพระวิหารนี้ให้เต็มด้วยเกียรติรุ่งเรือง’ พระยาห์เวห์จอมทัพกล่าว
7For thus saith the Lord of hosts: Yet one little while, and I will move the heaven and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land.
8‘เงินเป็นของเรา ทองเป็นของเรา’ พระยาห์เวห์จอมทัพกล่าว
8And I will move all nations: AND THE DESIRED OF ALL NATIONS SHALL COME: and I will fill this house with glory: saith the Lord of hosts.
9‘เกียรติรุ่งเรืองครั้งหลังของพระวิหารนี้จะยิ่งใหญ่กว่าครั้งก่อน’ พระยาห์เวห์จอมทัพกล่าว ‘และในที่นี้เราจะให้สันติสุข’ พระยาห์เวห์จอมทัพกล่าว”
9The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.
10วันที่ยี่สิบสี่ เดือนที่เก้า ในปีที่สองแห่งรัชกาลดาริอัส พระยาห์เวห์กล่าวผ่านฮักกัยผู้ประกาศสารจากพระเจ้าว่า
10Great shall be the glory of this last house more than of the first, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place I will give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.
11“พระยาห์เวห์จอมทัพกล่าว จงถามปุโรหิตเรื่องบทบัญญัติว่า
11In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius the king, the word of the Lord came to Aggeus the prophet, saying:
12‘ถ้าใครพกเนื้อศักดิ์สิทธิ์ไว้ในชายเสื้อที่พับไว้ และใช้ชายเสื้อที่พับไว้นั้นแตะขนมปัง อาหารตุ๋น เหล้าองุ่น น้ำมัน หรืออาหารใด ๆ สิ่งนั้นจะศักดิ์สิทธิ์ไหม?’” ปุโรหิตตอบว่า “ไม่ศักดิ์สิทธิ์”
12Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Ask the priests the law, saying:
13ฮักกัยจึงถามว่า “ถ้าคนที่เป็นมลทินเพราะศพไปแตะสิ่งเหล่านี้อย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง สิ่งนั้นจะเป็นมลทินไหม?” ปุโรหิตตอบว่า “จะเป็นมลทิน”
13If a man carry sanctified flesh in the skirt of his garment, and touch with his skirt, bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat: shall it be sanctified? And the priests answered, and said: No.
14ฮักกัยจึงตอบว่า “พระยาห์เวห์กล่าวว่า ‘ประชาชนนี้เป็นอย่างนั้น ชาตินี้ก็เป็นอย่างนั้นต่อหน้าเรา งานทุกอย่างที่มือของพวกเขาทำก็เป็นอย่างนั้น สิ่งที่พวกเขาถวายที่นั่นเป็นมลทิน
14And Aggeus said: If one that is unclean by occasion of a soul touch any of all these things, shall it be defiled? And the priests answered, and said: It shall be defiled.
15ตอนนี้ขอให้พวกคุณคิดให้ดี นับจากวันนี้ย้อนหลังไป ก่อนวางหินก้อนหนึ่งบนหินอีกก้อนในพระวิหารของพระยาห์เวห์
15And Aggeus answered, and said: So is this people, and so is this nation before my face, saith the Lord, and so is all the work of their hands: and all that they have offered there, shall be defiled.
16ตลอดเวลานั้น เมื่อใครมาที่กองที่มียี่สิบหน่วย ก็มีเพียงสิบหน่วย เมื่อมาที่ถังเหล้าองุ่นเพื่อตักออกห้าสิบ ก็มีเพียงยี่สิบ
16And now consider in your hearts, from this day and upward, before there was a stone laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord.
17เราตีพวกคุณด้วยโรคพืชเหี่ยวแห้ง โรครา และลูกเห็บ จนงานทั้งหมดที่พวกคุณลงมือทำเสียหาย แต่พวกคุณก็ไม่หันกลับมาหาเรา’ พระยาห์เวห์กล่าว
17When you went to a heap of twenty bushels, and they became ten: and you went into the press, to press out fifty vessels, and they became twenty.
18‘ขอให้คิดให้ดี นับจากวันนี้ย้อนหลังไป จากวันที่ยี่สิบสี่ เดือนที่เก้า ตั้งแต่วันที่วางรากฐานพระวิหารของพระยาห์เวห์ จงคิดให้ดี
18I struck you with a blasting wind, and all the works of your hand with the mildew and with hail, yet there was none among you that returned to me, saith the Lord.
19ยังมีเมล็ดพันธุ์ในยุ้งฉางไหม? จริงทีเดียว ทั้งเถาองุ่น ต้นมะเดื่อ ต้นทับทิม และต้นมะกอกยังไม่ให้ผล ตั้งแต่วันนี้เราจะอวยพรพวกคุณ’”
19Set your hearts from this day, and henceforward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month: from the day that the foundations of the temple of the Lord were laid, and lay it up in your hearts.
20ถ้อยคำจากพระยาห์เวห์มาถึงฮักกัยเป็นครั้งที่สองในวันที่ยี่สิบสี่ของเดือนว่า
20Is the seed as yet sprung up? or hath the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree as yet flourished? from this day I will bless you.
21“จงพูดกับเศรุบบาเบล ผู้ว่าการยูดาห์ ว่า ‘เราจะเขย่าฟ้าสวรรค์และแผ่นดินโลก
21And the word of the Lord came a second time to Aggeus in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying:
22จะโค่นบัลลังก์ของราชอาณาจักรทั้งหลาย ทำลายกำลังของราชอาณาจักรของชาติต่าง ๆ จะคว่ำรถศึกและคนที่นั่งอยู่ในนั้น ม้าและคนขี่จะล้มลง แต่ละคนด้วยดาบของพี่น้องของตน
22Speak to Zorobabel the governor of Juda, saying: I will move both heaven and earth.
23วันนั้น พระยาห์เวห์จอมทัพกล่าว เราจะรับคุณ เศรุบบาเบลผู้รับใช้ของเรา บุตรเชอัลทิเอล’ พระยาห์เวห์กล่าว ‘จะทำให้คุณเป็นเหมือนแหวนตรา เพราะเราเลือกคุณแล้ว’ พระยาห์เวห์จอมทัพกล่าว”
23And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and will destroy the strength of the kingdom of the Gentiles: and I will overthrow the chariot, and him that rideth therein: and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.

24In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, I will take thee, O Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, my servant, saith the Lord, and will make thee as a signet, for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord of hosts.
