1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:
1神の御心によってキリスト・イエスの使徒とされたパウロから、エペソにいる聖徒たち、すなわちキリスト・イエスにあって忠実な人々へ。
2Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
2私たちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安があなたがたにありますように。
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
3私たちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神が、ほめたたえられますように。神は、キリストにあって、天上にあるあらゆる霊的な祝福をもって私たちを祝福してくださいました。
4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
4神は世界の基が据えられる前から、御前で聖なる、傷のない者となるよう、愛のうちにキリストにあって私たちを選ばれました。
5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
5そして御心の喜びに従い、イエス・キリストを通して私たちをご自分の子として迎えることを、あらかじめ定めてくださいました。
6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
6それは、愛する御子にあって私たちに惜しみなく注いでくださった、栄光に満ちた恵みがほめたたえられるためです。
7In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
7私たちは御子にあって、その血による贖い、すなわち背きの赦しを受けています。これは神の豊かな恵みによるものです。
8Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
8神はあらゆる知恵と分別をもって、この恵みを私たちにあふれるほど注ぎ、
9Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
9御心の奥義を知らせてくださいました。それは、神が御心の喜びに従って、キリストにあってあらかじめ定めておられたものです。
10That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
10時が満ちるに及んで実現されるそのご計画とは、天にあるものも地にあるものも、すべてをキリストにあって一つにまとめることです。
11In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
11私たちはキリストにあって相続を受ける者とされました。ご自分の御心の計画に従ってすべてを行われる方の目的により、あらかじめ定められていたのです。
12That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
12それは、先にキリストに望みを置いていた私たちが、神の栄光をほめたたえる者となるためです。
13In whom ye also trusted , after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
13あなたがたもキリストにあって、真理の言葉、すなわち救いの福音を聞き、信じたとき、約束された聖霊によって証印を押されました。
14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
14聖霊は、神の所有とされた民が贖われる日まで、私たちの相続を保証する手付です。それは、神の栄光がほめたたえられるためです。
15Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
15こういうわけで私も、主イエスに対するあなたがたの信仰と、すべての聖徒への愛を聞き、
16Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
16絶えずあなたがたのために感謝し、祈りの中であなたがたを覚えています。
17That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
17どうか、私たちの主イエス・キリストの神、栄光の父が、ご自分を深く知るための知恵と啓示の霊を、あなたがたに与えてくださいますように。
18The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
18また、あなたがたの心の目が照らされ、神に召された者の望みがどのようなものか、聖徒たちのうちにある神の相続財産の栄光がどれほど豊かであるかを、知ることができますように。
19And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
19また、信じる私たちに向けられた神の力が、どれほど計り知れず偉大であるかを知ることができますように。その力は、神の強大な御力の働きによるものです。
20Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places ,
20神はその力をキリストに働かせ、キリストを死者の中からよみがえらせ、天上でご自分の右に座らせました。
21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
21キリストは、あらゆる支配、権威、力、主権のはるか上に置かれ、この時代だけでなく来るべき時代においても、呼ばれるあらゆる名の上におられます。
22And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
22神はすべてをキリストの足の下に従わせ、教会のために、キリストをすべてのものの上に立つかしらとしてお与えになりました。
23Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
23教会はキリストの体であり、すべてのものをあらゆるところに満たしておられる方が、満ち満ちておられるところです。
