1Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
1さて兄弟たち、私たちの主イエス・キリストの来臨と、私たちが主のもとに集められることについて、あなたがたにお願いします。
2That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
2キリストの日がすでに来たと言われても、それが霊によるものであれ、ことばによるものであれ、私たちから出たかのような手紙によるものであれ、すぐに心を揺さぶられたり、動揺したりしないでください。
3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come , except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
3どのようなことがあっても、だれにも惑わされてはなりません。まず反逆が起こり、罪の人、すなわち滅びの子が現れないかぎり、その日は来ないからです。
4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
4彼は、神と呼ばれるものや礼拝の対象となるものすべてに逆らい、それらすべての上に自分を高く上げます。そして神として神の神殿に座り、自分こそ神であると示します。
5Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
5私がまだあなたがたと一緒にいた時、これらのことを語っていたのを覚えていないのですか。
6And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
6彼が定められた時に現れるよう、何が彼を押しとどめているのかを、あなたがたは今知っています。
7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let , until he be taken out of the way.
7不法の奥義は、すでに働いています。ただ、今はそれを押しとどめる者がいて、その者が取り除かれる時までです。
8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
8その時、不法の者が現れます。主は、その者を御口の息によって殺し、ご自分の来臨を現す時、その者を滅ぼされます。
9Even him , whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
9その不法の者が来るのは、サタンの働きによるもので、あらゆる力としるし、偽りの不思議を伴い、
10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
10滅びつつある者たちを、あらゆる不義の欺きによって惑わします。彼らが救われるために、真理への愛を受け入れなかったからです。
11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
11そのため神は、彼らが偽りを信じるように、強い惑わしを送られます。
12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
12こうして、真理を信じず、不義を喜んだ者たちは、みな裁かれるのです。
13But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
13しかし、主に愛されている兄弟たち、私たちは、あなたがたのことでいつも神に感謝しなければなりません。神は初めから、聖霊によって聖なる者とされ、真理を信じることによって救われるように、あなたがたを選ばれたからです。
14Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
14神は、このために、私たちの福音を通してあなたがたを召されました。それは、私たちの主イエス・キリストの栄光にあずからせるためです。
15Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
15ですから兄弟たち、堅く立ち、私たちが口頭であれ手紙であれ教えたことを、しっかり守りなさい。
16Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
16私たちの主イエス・キリストご自身と、私たちを愛し、恵みによって永遠の慰めと良い希望を与えてくださった父なる神が、
17Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
17あなたがたの心を慰め、あらゆる良い行いとことばにおいて、あなたがたを堅く立たせてくださいますように。
