1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1Amados, não creiam em qualquer espírito, mas provem os espíritos para ver se são de Deus, porque muitos falsos profetas têm saído pelo mundo.
2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
2Nisto vocês conhecem o Espírito de Deus: todo espírito que confessa que Jesus Cristo veio em carne é de Deus,
3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
3e todo espírito que não confessa que Jesus Cristo veio em carne não é de Deus; e este é o espírito do Anticristo, do qual vocês ouviram que está chegando. E agora já está no mundo.
4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
4Vocês são de Deus, filhinhos, e os venceram, porque maior é aquele que está em vocês do que aquele que está no mundo.
5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
5Eles são do mundo. Por isso falam segundo o mundo, e o mundo os ouve.
6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
6Nós somos de Deus. Aquele que conhece a Deus nos ouve. Aquele que não é de Deus não nos ouve. Nisto conhecemos o espírito da verdade e o espírito do erro.
7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
7Amados, amemo-nos uns aos outros, pois o amor procede de Deus; e todo aquele que ama é nascido de Deus e conhece a Deus.
8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
8Aquele que não ama não conhece a Deus, porque Deus é amor.
9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
9Nisto o amor de Deus foi revelado entre nós: que Deus enviou o seu Filho unigênito ao mundo, para que pudéssemos viver por meio dele.
10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
10Nisto consiste o amor, não em que nós tenhamos amado a Deus, mas em que ele nos amou e enviou o seu Filho como propiciação pelos nossos pecados.
11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
11Amados, se Deus nos amou desta maneira, nós também devemos amar uns aos outros.
12No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
12Ninguém jamais viu a Deus. Se amarmos uns aos outros, Deus permanece em nós, e o seu amor tem sido aperfeiçoado em nós.
13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
13Nisto sabemos que permanecemos nele, e ele em nós, porque nos tem dado do seu Espírito.
14And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
14Nós vimos e testemunhamos que o Pai enviou o Filho como Salvador do mundo.
15Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
15Todo aquele que confessa que Jesus é o Filho de Deus, Deus permanece nele, e ele em Deus.
16And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
16E nós conhecemos e cremos no amor que Deus tem por nós. Deus é amor, e aquele que permanece no amor permanece em Deus, e Deus permanece nele.
17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
17Nisto o amor foi aperfeiçoado entre nós, para que tenhamos confiança no dia do juízo, porque, assim como ele é, também nós somos neste mundo.
18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
18No amor não há medo; antes, o perfeito amor lança fora o medo, porque o medo traz castigo. Aquele que tem medo não está aperfeiçoado no amor.
19We love him, because he first loved us.
19Nós o amamos, porque ele nos amou primeiro.
20If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
20Se alguém disser: “Eu amo a Deus”, e odiar o seu irmão, é mentiroso; pois aquele que não ama o seu irmão a quem viu, como pode amar a Deus a quem não viu?
21And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
21E este mandamento temos dele: que aquele que ama a Deus, ame também o seu irmão.
