1The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
1O presbítero, à senhora eleita e aos seus filhos, a quem amo na verdade, e não apenas eu, mas também todos os que conhecem a verdade,
2For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
2por causa da verdade que permanece em nós, e estará conosco para sempre:
3Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
3A graça, a misericórdia e a paz estarão conosco, da parte de Deus Pai e da parte do Senhor Jesus Cristo, o Filho do Pai, em verdade e amor.
4I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
4Alegrei-me muito por ter encontrado alguns dos seus filhos andando na verdade, assim como recebemos o mandamento do Pai.
5And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
5E agora lhe peço, senhora, não como se escrevesse a você um novo mandamento, mas aquele que tínhamos desde o princípio: que amemos uns aos outros.
6And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
6E o amor é este: que andemos segundo os seus mandamentos. Este é o mandamento, assim como vocês ouviram desde o princípio, para que andem nele.
7For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
7Pois muitos enganadores têm saído pelo mundo, os quais não confessam que Jesus Cristo veio em carne. Este é o enganador e o Anticristo.
8Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
8Tenham cuidado consigo mesmos, para que não percamos aquilo que realizamos, mas recebamos a plena recompensa.
9Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
9Todo aquele que transgride e não permanece no ensino de Cristo não tem a Deus. Aquele que permanece no ensino tem tanto o Pai como o Filho.
10If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
10Se alguém vier até vocês e não trouxer este ensino, não o recebam em sua casa nem o saúdem,
11For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
11pois aquele que o saúda participa das suas obras más.
12Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
12Tenho muitas coisas para lhes escrever, mas não quero fazê-lo com papel e tinta. Espero, porém, ir até vocês e falar face a face, para que a nossa alegria seja completa.
13The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
13Os filhos da sua irmã eleita a saúdam. Amém.
