1And David being old and full of days, made Solomon his son king over Israel.
1Toen David oud was geworden en hoogbejaard, verhief hij zijn zoon Salomon tot koning van Israël,
2And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, and the priests and Levites.
2en riep alle bestuurders van Israël met de priesters en levieten bijeen.
3And the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years, and upwards: and there were found of them thirty-eight thousand men.
3En toen de levieten boven de dertig jaar waren geteld, bleek het aantal mannelijke personen acht en dertigduizend te bedragen.
4Of these twenty-four thousand were chosen, and distributed unto the ministry of the house of the Lord: and six thousand were the overseers and judges.
4En David beval, dat vier en twintigduizend van hen zouden worden belast met de dienst in het heiligdom van Jahweh, dat zesduizend zouden worden aangesteld als beambten en rechters,
5Moreover four thousand were porters: and as many singers singing to the Lord with the instruments, which he had made to sing with.
5en dat vierduizend Jahweh zouden loven op de instrumenten, die hij daartoe had laten vervaardigen.
6And David distributed them into courses by the families of the sons of Levi, to wit, of Gerson, and of Caath, and of Merari.
6Bovendien deelde David hen in groepen in, naar gelang ze afstamden van Gersjon, Kehat en Merari, de zonen van Levi.
7The sons of Gerson were Leedan and Semei.
7De zonen van Gersjon waren Ladan en Sjimi.
8The sons of Leedan: the chief Jahiel, and Zethan, and Joel, three.
8De zonen van Ladan waren Jechiël, het opperhoofd, met Zetam en Joël, in het geheel drie;
9The sons of Semei: Salomith, and Hosiel, and Aran, three: these were the heads of the families of Leedan.
9die van Sjimi waren Sjelomit, Chaziël en Haran, in het geheel drie. Dit waren de familiehoofden van het geslacht Ladan.
10And the sons of Semei were Leheth, and Ziza, and Jaus, and Baria: these were the sons of Semei, four.
10De zonen van Sjimi waren Jáchat, Zina, Jeöesj en Beria; dit waren de zonen van Sjimi, in het geheel vier.
11And Leheth was the first, Ziza the second: but Jaus and Baria had not many children, and therefore they were counted in one family, and in one house.
11Jáchat was het opperhoofd, en Zina de tweede; Jeöesj en Beria werden in hun familie als een ambtsgroep gerekend, omdat ze weinig kinderen hadden.
12The sons of Caath were Amram, and Isaar, Hebron, and Oziel, four.
12De zonen van Kehat waren Amram, Jishar, Chebron en Oezziël, in het geheel vier.
13The sons of Amram, Aaron, and Moses. And Aaron was separated to minister in the holy of holies, he and his sons for ever, and to burn incense before the Lord, according to his ceremonies, and to bless his name for ever.
13De zonen van Amram waren Aäron en Moses. Aäron zelf en zijn afstammelingen waren voor immer afgezonderd en voor de hoogheilige bediening gewijd, om voor altijd offers op te dragen aan Jahweh, Hem te dienen en in zijn Naam te zegenen.
14The sons also of Moses, the man of God, were numbered in the tribe of Levi.
14Moses was de man Gods, maar de zonen van Moses werden weer tot de stam der levieten gerekend.
15The sons of Moses were Gersom and Eliezer:
15Het waren Gersjom en Eliézer.
16The sons of Gersom: Subuel the first.
16De zoon van Gersjom was Sjeboeël, een opperhoofd;
17And the sons of Eliezer were: Rohobia the first: and Eliezer had no more sons. But the sons of Rohobia were multiplied exceedingly.
17die van Eliézer was Rechabja, eveneens een opperhoofd. Eliézer zelf had geen andere kinderen, maar Rechabja had er zeer veel.
18The sons of Isaar: Salomith the first.
18De zoon van Jishar was Sjelomit, een opperhoofd.
19The sons of Hebron: Jeriau the first, Amarias the second, Jahaziel the third, Jecmaam the fourth.
19De zonen van Chebron waren Jeri-jáhoe, het opperhoofd, Amarja, de tweede, Jachaziël de derde, Jekamam de vierde.
20The sons of Oziel: Micha the first, Jesia the second.
20De zonen van Oezziël waren Mika, het opperhoofd, en Jissji-ja, de tweede.
21The sons of Merari: Moholi, and Musi. The sons of Moholi: Eleazar and Cia.
21De zonen van Merari waren Machli en Moesji. De zonen van Machli waren Elazar en Kisj.
22And Eleazar died, and had no sons but daughters: and the sons of Cis their brethren took them.
22Elazar stierf zonder zonen na te laten; hij had alleen maar dochters, die door hun neven, de zonen van Kisj, werden gehuwd.
23The sons of Musi: Moholi, and Eder, and Jerimoth, three.
23De zonen van Moesji waren Machli, Éder en Jeremot, in het geheel drie.
24These are the sons of Levi in their kindreds and families, princes by their courses, and the number of every head that did the works of the ministry of the house of the Lord from twenty years old and upward.
24Dit waren dus de familiehoofden boven de dertig jaar van de gemonsterde levietische families, die met name en persoonlijk waren aangewezen, om de dienst te verrichten in de tempel van Jahweh.
25For David said: The Lord the God of Israel hath given rest to his people, and a habitation in Jerusalem for ever.
25David bepaalde: Nu Jahweh, de God van Israël, zijn volk rust heeft geschonken, en voor altijd in Jerusalem woont,
26And it shall not be the office of the Levites to carry any more the tabernacle, and all the vessels for the service thereof.
26behoeven de levieten niet meer de tabernakel te dragen met heel zijn toebehoren voor de eredienst.
27So according to the last precepts of David, the sons of Levi are to be numbered from twenty years old and upward.
27Later werd volgens de laatste aanwijzingen van David het aantal levieten berekend van twintig jaar af en ouder.
28And they are to be under the hand of the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, in the porches, and in the chambers, and in the place of purification, and in the sanctuary, and in all the works of the ministry of the temple of the Lord.
28Nu konden zij de zonen van Aäron behulpzaam zijn bij de dienst in het huis van Jahweh, door het toezicht op de voorhoven en zalen, het rein houden van alle gewijde voorwerpen, en het verrichten van de andere werkzaamheden die in het huis Gods te doen vielen.
29And the priests have the charge of the leaves of proposition, and of the sacrifice of fine flour, and of the unleavened cakes, and of the fryingpan, and of the roasting, and of every weight and measure.
29Bovendien moesten ze zorgen voor de toonbroden, de meelbloem voor het spijsoffer, en de ongezuurde vladen, voor het bakwerk en de mengsels, en voor alle inhouds- en lengtematen.
30And the Levites are to stand in the morning to give thanks, and to sing praises to the Lord: and in like manner in the evening,
30Verder moesten ze elke morgen, en ‘s avonds eveneens, gereed staan, om Jahweh lof en dank te zingen.
31As well in the oblation of the holocausts of the Lord, as in the sabbaths and in the new moons, and the rest of the solemnities, according to the number and ceremonies prescribed for every thing, continually before the Lord.
31Daarenboven moesten ze zorgen voor al wat er nodig was voor de brandoffers, die aan Jahweh werden opgedragen op sabbatten, nieuwe manen en hoogtijden, opdat er voortdurend zoveel aan Jahweh werden opgedragen, als voorgeschreven was.
32And let them keep the observances of the tabernacle of the covenant, and the ceremonies of the sanctuary, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, that they may minister in the house of the Lord.
32Zo moesten ze de dienst waarnemen bij de openbaringstent en bij het Heilige, en hun broeders, de zonen van Aäron, behulpzaam zijn bij de dienst in het huis van Jahweh.
