1以斯拉 禱告，認罪，哭泣，俯伏在上帝殿前的時候，有 以色列 中的男女孩童聚集到 以斯拉 那裏，成了大會，眾民無不痛哭。
1While Ezra prayed and made this confession, weeping and falling facedown before the house of God, a very large assembly of Israelites—men, women, and children—gathered around him, and the people wept bitterly as well.
2屬 以攔 的子孫、 耶歇 的兒子 示迦尼 對 以斯拉 說：「我們在此地娶了外邦女子為妻，干犯了我們的上帝，然而 以色列 人還有指望。
2Then Shecaniah son of Jehiel, an Elamite, said to Ezra: “We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women from the people of the land, yet in spite of this, there is hope for Israel.
3現在當與我們的上帝立約，休這一切的妻，離絕她們所生的，照着我主和那因上帝命令戰兢之人所議定的，按律法而行。
3So now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all the foreign wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the command of our God. Let it be done according to the Law.
4你起來，這是你當辦的事，我們必幫助你，你當奮勉而行。」
4Get up, for this matter is your responsibility, and we will support you. Be strong and take action!”
5以斯拉 便起來，使祭司長和 利未 人，並 以色列 眾人起誓說，必照這話去行；他們就起了誓。
5So Ezra got up and made the leading priests, Levites, and all Israel take an oath to do what had been said. And they took the oath.
6以斯拉 從上帝殿前起來，進入 以利亞實 的兒子 約哈難 的屋裏，到了那裏不吃飯，也不喝水；因為被擄歸回之人所犯的罪，心裏悲傷。
6Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and walked to the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. And while he stayed there, he ate no food and drank no water, because he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.
7他們通告 猶大 和 耶路撒冷 被擄歸回的人，叫他們在 耶路撒冷 聚集。
7And a proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem that all the exiles should gather at Jerusalem.
8凡不遵首領和長老所議定、三日之內不來的，就必抄他的家，使他離開被擄歸回之人的會。
8Whoever failed to appear within three days would forfeit all his property, according to the counsel of the leaders and elders, and would himself be expelled from the assembly of the exiles.
9於是， 猶大 和 便雅憫 眾人，三日之內都聚集在 耶路撒冷 。那日正是九月二十日，眾人都坐在上帝殿前的寬闊處；因這事，又因下大雨，就都戰兢。
9So within the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled in Jerusalem, and on the twentieth day of the ninth month, all the people sat in the square at the house of God, trembling regarding this matter and because of the heavy rain.
10祭司 以斯拉 站起來，對他們說：「你們有罪了；因你們娶了外邦的女子為妻，增添 以色列 人的罪惡。
10Then Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, “You have been unfaithful by marrying foreign women, adding to the guilt of Israel.
11現在當向耶和華－你們列祖的上帝認罪，遵行他的旨意，離絕這些國的民和外邦的女子。」
11Now, therefore, make a confession to the LORD, the God of your fathers, and do His will. Separate yourselves from the people of the land and from your foreign wives.”
12會眾都大聲回答說：「我們必照着你的話行，
12And the whole assembly responded in a loud voice: “Truly we must do as you say!
13只是百姓眾多，又逢大雨的時令，我們不能站在外頭，這也不是一兩天辦完的事，因我們在這事上犯了大罪；
13But there are many people here, and it is the rainy season. We are not able to stay out in the open. Nor is this the work of one or two days, for we have transgressed greatly in this matter.
14不如為全會眾派首領辦理。凡我們城邑中娶外邦女子為妻的，當按所定的日期，同着本城的長老和士師而來，直到辦完這事，上帝的烈怒就轉離我們了。」
14Let our leaders represent the whole assembly. Then let everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at an appointed time, together with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us.”
15惟有 亞撒黑 的兒子 約拿單 ， 特瓦 的兒子 雅哈謝 阻擋這事，並有 米書蘭 和 利未 人 沙比太 幫助他們。
15(Only Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite, opposed this plan.)
16被擄歸回的人如此而行。祭司 以斯拉 和些族長按着宗族都指名見派；在十月初一日，一同在座查辦這事，
16So the exiles did as proposed. Ezra the priest selected men who were family heads, each of them identified by name, to represent their families. On the first day of the tenth month they launched the investigation,
17到正月初一日，才查清娶外邦女子的人數。
17and by the first day of the first month they had dealt with all the men who had married foreign women.
18在祭司中查出娶外邦女子為妻的，就是 耶書亞 的子孫 約薩達 的兒子，和他弟兄 瑪西雅 、 以利以謝 、 雅立 、 基大利 ；
18Among the descendants of the priests who had married foreign women were found these descendants of Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brothers: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah.
19他們便應許必休他們的妻。他們因有罪，就 獻 群中的一隻公綿羊贖罪。
19They pledged to send their wives away, and for their guilt they presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering.
20音麥 的子孫中，有 哈拿尼 、 西巴第雅 。
20From the descendants of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.
21哈琳 的子孫中，有 瑪西雅 、 以利雅 、 示瑪雅 、 耶歇 、 烏西雅 。
21From the descendants of Harim: Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah.
22巴施戶珥 的子孫中，有 以利約乃 、 瑪西雅 、 以實瑪利 、 拿坦業 、 約撒拔 、 以利亞撒 。
22From the descendants of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
23利未 人中，有 約撒拔 、 示每 、 基拉雅 （ 基拉雅 就是 基利他 ），還有 毗他希雅 、 猶大 、 以利以謝 。
23Among the Levites: Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (that is, Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
24歌唱的人中有 以利亞實 。守門的人中，有 沙龍 、 提聯 、 烏利 。
24From the singers: Eliashib. From the gatekeepers: Shallum, Telem, and Uri.

25And among the other Israelites, from the descendants of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Malchijah, and Benaiah.

44這些人都娶了外邦女子為妻，其中也有生了兒女的。
44All these men had married foreign women, and some of them had children by these wives.
