1Přísloví Šalomouna syna Davidova, krále Izraelského,
1These are the proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel,
2Ku poznání moudrosti a cvičení, k vyrozumívání řečem rozumnosti,
2for gaining wisdom and discipline, for comprehending words of insight,
3K dosažení vycvičení v opatrnosti, spravedlnosti, soudu a toho, což pravého jest,
3and for receiving instruction in wise living and in righteousness, justice, and equity.
4Aby dána byla hloupým důmyslnost, mládenečku umění a prozřetelnost.
4To impart prudence to the simple and knowledge and discretion to the young,
5Když poslouchati bude moudrý, přibude mu umění, a rozumný bude vtipnější,
5let the wise listen and gain instruction, and the discerning acquire wise counsel
6K srozumění podobenství, a výmluvnosti řeči moudrých a pohádkám jejich.
6by understanding the proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.
7Bázeň Hospodinova jest počátek umění, moudrostí a cvičením pohrdají blázni.
7The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
8Poslouchej, synu můj, cvičení otce svého, a neopouštěj naučení matky své.
8Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother.
9Neboť to přidá příjemnosti hlavě tvé, a bude zlatým řetězem hrdlu tvému.
9For they are a garland of grace on your head and a pendant around your neck.
10Synu můj, jestliže by tě namlouvali hříšníci, nepřivoluj.
10My son, if sinners entice you, do not yield to them.
11Jestliže by řekli: Poď s námi, úklady čiňme krvi, skryjeme se proti nevinnému bez ostýchání se;
11If they say, “Come along, let us lie in wait for blood, let us ambush the innocent without cause,
12Sehltíme je jako hrob za živa, a v cele jako ty, jenž sstupují do jámy;
12let us swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole like those descending into the Pit.
13Všelijakého drahého zboží dosáhneme, naplníme domy své loupeží;
13We will find all manner of precious goods; we will fill our houses with plunder.
14Vrz los svůj mezi nás, měšec jeden budeme míti všickni:
14Throw in your lot with us; let us all share one purse”—
15Synu můj, nevycházej na cestu s nimi, zdrž nohu svou od stezky jejich;
15my son, do not walk the road with them or set foot upon their path.
16Nebo nohy jejich ke zlému běží, a pospíchají k vylévání krve.
16For their feet run to evil, and they are swift to shed blood.
17Jistě, že jakož nadarmo roztažena bývá sít před očima jakéhokoli ptactva,
17How futile it is to spread the net where any bird can see it!
18Tak tito proti krvi své ukládají, skrývají se proti dušem svým.
18But they lie in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own lives.
19Takovéť jsou cesty každého dychtícího po zisku, duši pána svého uchvacuje.
19Such is the fate of all who are greedy, whose unjust gain takes the lives of its possessors.
20Moudrost vně volá, na ulicech vydává hlas svůj.
20Wisdom calls out in the street, she lifts her voice in the square;
21V největším hluku volá, u vrat brány, v městě, a výmluvnosti své vypravuje, řka:
21in the main concourse she cries aloud, at the city gates she makes her speech:
22Až dokud hloupí milovati budete hloupost, a posměvači posměch sobě libovati, a blázni nenáviděti umění?
22“How long, O simple ones, will you love your simple ways? How long will scoffers delight in their scorn and fools hate knowledge?
23Obraťtež se k domlouvání mému. Hle, vynáším vám ducha svého, a v známost vám uvodím slova svá.
23If you had repented at my rebuke, then surely I would have poured out my spirit on you; I would have made my words known to you.
24Poněvadž jsem volala, a odpírali jste; vztahovala jsem ruku svou, a nebyl, kdo by pozoroval,
24Because you refused my call, and no one took my outstretched hand,
25Anobrž strhli jste se všeliké rady mé, a trestání mého jste neoblíbili:
25because you neglected all my counsel, and wanted none of my correction,
26Pročež i já v bídě vaší smáti se budu, posmívati se budu, když přijde to, čehož se bojíte,
26in turn I will mock your calamity; I will sneer when terror strikes you,
27Když přijde jako hrozné zpuštění to, čehož se bojíte, a bída vaše jako bouře nastane, když přijde na vás trápení a ssoužení.
27when your dread comes like a storm, and your destruction like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish overwhelm you.
28Tehdy volati budou ke mně, a nevyslyším; ráno hledati mne budou, a nenaleznou mne.
28Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will earnestly seek me, but will not find me.
29Proto že nenáviděli umění, a bázně Hospodinovy nevyvolili,
29For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the LORD.
30Aniž povolili radě mé, ale pohrdali všelikým domlouváním mým.
30They accepted none of my counsel; they despised all my reproof.
31Protož jísti budou ovoce skutků svých, a radami svými nasyceni budou.
31So they will eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
32Nebo pokoj hloupých zmorduje je, a štěstí bláznů zahubí je.
32For the waywardness of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.
33Ale kdož mne poslouchá, bydliti bude bezpečně, pokoj maje před strachem zlých věcí.
33But whoever listens to me will dwell in safety, secure from the fear of evil.”
