Kadede Kap (Pohnpeian New Testament and Psalms)
1While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the interior and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples
1Ani anjau Apoluj mi Korint, Pauluj kotin kakan jili jap en pali poa kan, ap lele don Epijuj waja a diarada tounpadak kai.
2and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?” “No,” they answered, “we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
2A kotin majani on irail: Komail aleer Nen jaraui ni omail pojonlar? Irail potoan on i: Je jota man ron, me Nen jaraui mia.
3“Into what, then, were you baptized?” Paul asked. “The baptism of John,” they replied.
3A ap kotin majani: A ij, me komail paptaij on? Irail inda: on paptaij en Ioanej.
4Paul explained: “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the One coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”
4Pauluj majani: Ioanej paptaij ki paptaij en kalula, ni a majani on aramaj akan, me ren pojon i me pan pwarado mur i, i Iejuj.
5On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
5Irail lao ronadar met, re ap paptaij on mar en Kaun Iejuj.
6And when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
6Pauluj lao kotin pwil po ’rail lim a kan, Nen jaraui ap kotidi po ’rail, irail ari lokaia nil toror pajan o deideikop.
7There were about twelve men in all.
7A ir ol oko me ekriamen.
8Then Paul went into the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God.
8I ari kotin purepure nan jinakoke o aima padapadak jauni pon jilu, kapakaparok o kawewedar meakan duen wein Kot.
9But when some of them stubbornly refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way, Paul took his disciples and left the synagogue to conduct daily discussions in the lecture hall of Tyrannus.
9A akai lao kapitakailar, o jo pojon, o lokelokaia jued on aramaj akan duen lamalam, a ap jaupei jan irail o katorela tounpadak kan, o padapadaki on irail nan im en padak en Tiranuj.
10This continued for two years, so that everyone who lived in the province of Asia, Jews and Greeks alike, heard the word of the Lord.
10Mepukat wiauier jaunpar riau; toun Ajien karoj ari ronada majan en Kaun o, men Juj o men Krik karoj.
11God did extraordinary miracles through the hands of Paul,
11O Kot me kotin wia kida Iim en Pauluj manaman kapuriamui akan.
12so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and the diseases and evil spirits left them.
12Re pil aleer lim en pudo o likau an moa jan pali war a, pwilikidi on me jomau kan, jomau o ap jare jan, o nen jued akan keredi jan.
13Now there were some itinerant Jewish exorcists who tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those with evil spirits. They would say, “I bind you by Jesus, whom Paul proclaims.”
13Men Juj widinok kai, me kin koko jili kati ani, ap jon jakaraki don irail, me tanwar en nen jued kai, mar en Kaun Iejuj, indada: Kit kaukilan komail Iejuj, me Pauluj kin padapadak due.
14Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.
14A ol ijimen mia nain jamaro lapalap Jkepaj, ol en Juj amen, me wiadar mepukat.
15Eventually, one of the evil spirits answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?”
15A wen jued japen irail indada: I aja Iejuj, o i aja duen Pauluj, a komail, ij komail?
16Then the man with the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. The attack was so violent that they ran out of the house naked and wounded.
16A aramaj o, me nen jued mi poa, ap luje don irail o kaloe irail edi. Ir ari tana jan nan im o kilijo o kili olar.
17This became known to all the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, and fear came over all of them. So the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor.
17A met lok jili ren men Juj o Krik akan, me kaujon Epijuj. O majak kipa irail edi, o mar en Kaun Iejuj me lomuinlar kaualap.
18Many who had believed now came forward, confessing and disclosing their deeds.
18O me ian pojonlar me toto kodo weokadar o kajaledar arail wiawia kan.
19And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books and burned them in front of everyone. When the value of the books was calculated, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas.
19O pil me toto, me kati ani, wa pena nairail puk o ijik ir ada mon karoj; ir ari wadok pwain ar o diar, me a dok on moni limenen.
20So the word of the Lord powerfully continued to spread and prevail.
20Majan en Kaun ari pwaidar kaualap.
21After these things had happened, Paul resolved in the Spirit to go to Jerusalem after he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia. “After I have been there,” he said, “I must see Rome as well.”
21Murin mepukat Pauluj ap kotin inon ion ni nen e kakan jili wein Majetonien o Akaia, ap kotilan Ierujalem majanidar: I lao milar waja o, i pil pan kilan Rom.
22He sent two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, to Macedonia, while he stayed for a time in the province of Asia.
22I ari kadarala Majetonien riamen, kijan me papa i: Timoteuj o Erajtuj. A pein i kotikoteta maj nan Ajien.
23About that time there arose a great disturbance about the Way.
23I anjau me moromoron laud wiauier pweki lamalam.
24It began with a silversmith named Demetrius who made silver shrines of Artemis, bringing much business to the craftsmen.
24Pwe amen, me ad a Demetriuj, jaunmata amen, me kin wiada im en kaudok jilper kan on Diana, me kare on irail, me kin wiawiada, moni toto.
25Demetrius assembled the craftsmen, along with the workmen in related trades. “Men,” he said, “you know that this business is our source of prosperity.
25I ap kapokon irail pena o toun dodok en jon ota indada: Main ko, komail aja, me dodok wet meid kadepa on kitail, pwe i me kitail kapwapwaki.
26And you can see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in nearly the whole province of Asia, Paul has persuaded a great number of people to turn away. He says that man-made gods are no gods at all.
26A komail kilekilan o roneron, me Pauluj men et kin kaloedi o kawukila aramaj toto a kaidin nan Epijuj eta, pwe pil koren ion nan Ajien pon, ni a kin padaki on aramaj akan, me dene kaidin irail kot akan, me wiaui pan pa en aramaj akan.
27There is danger not only that our business will fall into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be discredited and her majesty deposed—she who is worshiped by all the province of Asia and the whole world.”
27Mepukat meid apwal on kitail. Pwe kaidin atail dodok eta me pan kamala, pwe pil im kaudok en kot Diana lapalap o a linan, me toun Ajien o jappa karoj kin kaudoki on pan jorela.
28When the men heard this, they were enraged and began shouting, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
28Irail lao roner mepukat, re ap makara kida kaualap o weriweradar indada: Meid lapalap Diana en men Epijuj!
29Soon the whole city was in disarray. They rushed together into the theatre, dragging with them Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia.
29A karoj toun kanim o ap pinidar, wiaki eu, tanalan im en madon, tanaki Kaioj o Arijtar kuj men Majetonien, me waroki on Pauluj oko.
30Paul wanted to go before the assembly, but the disciples would not allow him.
30A Pauluj lao pan kotilon nan pokon o, tounpadak kan ap jota mueid on i.
31Even some of Paul’s friends who were officials of the province of Asia sent word to him, begging him not to venture into the theatre.
31O jaumaj en Ajien kai, me kompokepa kan, ilake don i, panaui i, ender kotilan im en madon o.
32Meanwhile the assembly was in turmoil. Some were shouting one thing and some another, and most of them did not even know why they were there.
32Ari, akai wia eu jon en lokaia, a akai eu, pwe pokon o pinidar. A me toto re ’rail jaja karep en ar pokon pena.
33The Jews in the crowd pushed Alexander forward to explain himself, and he motioned for silence so he could make his defense to the people.
33Irail jikon jan nan pokon o Alekjander; Juj oko me jikonla i. A Alekjander olol on irail, ap men japen pokon o.
34But when they realized that he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison for about two hours: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
34Irail lao aja, me i kijan Juj oko, re ap wiaki eu weriwerada auer riau: Meid lapalap Diana en men Epijuj!
35Finally the city clerk quieted the crowd and declared, “Men of Ephesus, doesn’t everyone know that the city of Ephesus is guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven?
35A jaunintin en kanim o lao kadukiedi pokon o, ap indada: Komail ol oko en Epijuj, ij aramaj, me jaja, me kanim en men Epijuj kin kaukaudoki on Diana lapalap o dikedik, me pupedi jan nanlan?
36Since these things are undeniable, you ought to be calm and not do anything rash.
36A ma jota, me pan kak kalikame mepukat, komail en nenenla o der wiada me japun!
37For you have brought these men here, though they have neither robbed our temple nor blasphemed our goddess.
37Pwe komail ukedo ol pukat, me jota kin kuliada im en kaudok o, pil jota lalaue omail kot li.
38So if Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a complaint against anyone, the courts are open and proconsuls are available. Let them bring charges against one another there.
38A ma Demetriuj o ian a kan mauki meakot ren amen, kapun ap pan wiaui, pwe jaunkapun kai mia, ren kapukapun re ’rail.
39But if you are seeking anything beyond this, it must be settled in a legal assembly.
39A ma komail mauki eu jon toror, i me pan kapunala nan kapun o.
40For we are in jeopardy of being charged with rioting for today’s events, and we have no justification to account for this commotion.”
40Pwe kitail pan pukoki moron en ran wet, pwe jota karepen, me kitail en kapunki pokon wet ar tanatan pena.
41After he had said this, he dismissed the assembly.
41A lao majani on irail mepukat, ap kadar pajan pokon o.
