1And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit harlotry with the daughters of Moab.
1以色列 人住在 什亭 ，百姓與 摩押 女子行起淫亂。
2And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods; and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
2因為這女子叫百姓來，一同給她們的神獻祭，百姓就吃 她們的祭物 ，跪拜她們的神。
3And Israel joined himself unto the Baal of Peor; and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.
3以色列 人與 巴力‧毗珥 連合，耶和華的怒氣就向 以色列 人發作。
4And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up unto the LORD in face of the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel.'
4耶和華吩咐 摩西 說：「將百姓中所有的族長在我面前對着日頭懸掛，使我向 以色列 人所發的怒氣可以消了。」
5And Moses said unto the judges of Israel: 'Slay ye every one his men that have joined themselves unto the Baal of Peor.'
5於是 摩西 吩咐 以色列 的審判官說：「凡屬你們的人，有與 巴力‧毗珥 連合的，你們各人要把他們殺了。」
6And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.
6摩西 和 以色列 全會眾正在會幕門前哭泣的時候，誰知，有 以色列 中的一個人，當他們眼前，帶着一個 米甸 女人到他弟兄那裏去。
7And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand.
7祭司 亞倫 的孫子， 以利亞撒 的兒子 非尼哈 看見了，就從會中起來，手裏拿着槍，
8And he went after the man of Israel into the chamber, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
8跟隨那 以色列 人進亭子裏去，便將 以色列 人和那女人由腹中刺透。這樣，在 以色列 人中瘟疫就止息了。
9And those that died by the plague were twenty and four thousand.
9那時遭瘟疫死的，有二萬四千人。
10And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
10耶和華曉諭 摩西 說：
11'Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned My wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was very jealous for My sake among them, so that I consumed not the children of Israel in My jealousy.
11「祭司 亞倫 的孫子， 以利亞撒 的兒子 非尼哈 ，使我向 以色列 人所發的怒消了；因他在他們中間，以我的忌邪為心，使我不在忌邪中把他們除滅。
12Wherefore say: Behold, I give unto him My covenant of peace;
12因此，你要說：『我將我平安的約賜給他。
13and it shall be unto him, and to his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.'
13這約要給他和他的後裔，作為永遠當祭司職任的約；因他為上帝有忌邪的心，為 以色列 人贖罪。』」
14Now the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers' house among the Simeonites.
14那與 米甸 女人一同被殺的 以色列 人，名叫 心利 ，是 撒路 的兒子，是 西緬 一個宗族的首領。
15And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head of the people of a fathers' house in Midian.
15那被殺的 米甸 女人，名叫 哥斯比 ，是 蘇珥 的女兒；這 蘇珥 是 米甸 一個宗族的首領。
16And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
16耶和華曉諭 摩西 說：
17'Harass the Midianites, and smite them;
17「你要擾害 米甸 人，擊殺他們；
18for they harass you, by their wiles wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.'
18因為他們用詭計擾害你們，在 毗珥 的事上和他們的姊妹、 米甸 首領的女兒 哥斯比 的事上，用這詭計誘惑了你們；這 哥斯比 ，當瘟疫流行的日子，因 毗珥 的事被殺了。」
