1And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
1約西亞 的兒子 西底家 代替 約雅敬 的兒子 哥尼雅 為王，是 巴比倫 王 尼布甲尼撒 立在 猶大 地作王的。
2But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which He spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.
2但 西底家 和他的臣僕，並國中的百姓，都不聽從耶和華藉先知 耶利米 所說的話。
3And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying: 'Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.'
3西底家 王打發 示利米雅 的兒子 猶甲 和祭司 瑪西雅 的兒子 西番雅 去見先知 耶利米 ，說：「求你為我們禱告耶和華－我們的上帝。」
4Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison.
4那時 耶利米 在民中出入，因為他們還沒有把他囚在監裏。
5And Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they broke up from Jerusalem.
5法老的軍隊已經從 埃及 出來，那圍困 耶路撒冷 的 迦勒底 人聽見他們的風聲，就拔營離開 耶路撒冷 去了。
6Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying:
6耶和華的話臨到先知 耶利米 說：
7'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto Me to inquire of Me: Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
7「耶和華－ 以色列 的上帝如此說： 猶大 王打發你們來求問我，你們要如此對他說：『那出來幫助你們法老的軍隊必回 埃及 本國去。
8And the Chaldeans shall return, and fight against this city; and they shall take it, and burn it with fire.
8迦勒底 人必再來攻打這城，並要攻取，用火焚燒。
9Thus saith the LORD: Deceive not yourselves, saying: The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart.
9耶和華如此說：你們不要自欺說「 迦勒底 人必定離開我們」，因為他們必不離開。
10For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.'
10你們即便殺敗了與你們爭戰的 迦勒底 全軍，但剩下受傷的人也必各人從帳棚裏起來，用火焚燒這城。』」
11And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,
11迦勒底 的軍隊因怕法老的軍隊，拔營離開 耶路撒冷 的時候，
12then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the midst of the people.
12耶利米 就雜在民中出離 耶路撒冷 ，要往 便雅憫 地去，在那裏得自己的地業。
13And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying: 'Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.'
13他到了 便雅憫門 那裏，有守門官名叫 伊利雅 ，是 哈拿尼亞 的孫子、 示利米雅 的兒子，他就拿住先知 耶利米 ，說：「你是投降 迦勒底 人哪！」
14Then said Jeremiah: 'It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans'; but he hearkened not to him; so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
14耶利米 說：「你這是謊話，我並不是投降 迦勒底 人。」 伊利雅 不聽他的話，就拿住他，解到首領那裏。
15And the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.
15首領惱怒 耶利米 ，就打了他，將他囚在文士 約拿單 的房屋中，因為他們以這房屋當作監牢。
16When Jeremiah was come into the dungeon-house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;
16耶利米 來到獄中，進入牢房，在那裏囚了多日。
17then Zedekiah the king sent, and fetched him; and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said: 'Is there any word from the LORD?' And Jeremiah said: 'There is.' He said also: 'Thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.'
17西底家 王打發人提出他來，在自己的宮內私下問他說：「從耶和華有甚麼話臨到沒有？」 耶利米 說：「有！」又說：「你必交在 巴比倫 王手中。」
18Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah: 'Wherein have I sinned against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?
18耶利米 又對 西底家 王說：「我在甚麼事上得罪你，或你的臣僕，或這百姓，你竟將我囚在監裏呢？
19Where now are your prophets that prophesied unto you, saying: The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
19對你們預言 巴比倫 王必不來攻擊你們和這地的先知，現今在哪裏呢？
20And now hear, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be presented before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.'
20主－我的王啊，求你現在垂聽，准我在你面前的懇求：不要使我回到文士 約拿單 的房屋中，免得我死在那裏。」
21Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard, and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
21於是， 西底家 王下令，他們就把 耶利米 交在護衛兵的院中，每天從餅舖街取一個餅給他，直到城中的餅用盡了。這樣， 耶利米 仍在護衛兵的院中。
