1Now the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem; in the name of the God of Israel prophesied they unto them.
1那时，先知 哈该 和 易多 的孙子 撒迦利亚 奉 以色列 神的名向 犹大 和 耶路撒冷 的 犹大 人说劝勉的话。
2Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and with them were the prophets of God, helping them.
2于是 撒拉铁 的儿子 所罗巴伯 和 约萨达 的儿子 耶书亚 都起来动手建造 耶路撒冷 神的殿，有 神的先知在那里帮助他们。
3At the same time came to them Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and their companions, and said thus unto them: 'Who gave you a decree to build this house, and to finish this structure?'
3当时 河西 的总督 达乃 和 示他·波斯乃 ，并他们的同党来问说：「谁降旨让你们建造这殿，修成这墙呢？」
4'Then spoke we unto them after this manner, wrote they: What are the names of the men that build this building?'
4我们便告诉他们建造这殿的人叫什么名字。
5But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, and they did not make them cease, till the matter should come to Darius, and then answer should be returned by letter concerning it.
5神的眼目看顾 犹大 的长老，以致总督等没有叫他们停工，直到这事奏告 大流士 ，得着他的回谕。
6The copy of the letter that Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and his companions the Apharesachites, who were beyond the River, sent unto Darius the king;
6河西 的总督 达乃 和 示他·波斯乃 ，并他们的同党，就是住 河西 的 亚法萨迦 人，上本奏告 大流士 王。
7they sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus: 'Unto Darius the king, all peace.
7本上写着说：「愿 大流士 王诸事平安。
8Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judah, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth on with diligence and prospereth in their hands.
8王该知道，我们往 犹大 省去，到了至大 神的殿，这殿是用大石建造的。梁木插入墙内，工作甚速，他们手下亨通。
9Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus: Who gave you a decree to build this house, and to finish this wall?
9我们就问那些长老说：『谁降旨让你们建造这殿，修成这墙呢？』
10We asked them their names also, to announce to thee, that we might write the names of the men that were at the head of them.
10又问他们的名字，要记录他们首领的名字，奏告于王。
11And thus they returned us answer, saying: We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and finished.
11他们回答说：『我们是天地之 神的仆人，重建前多年所建造的殿，就是 以色列 的一位大君王建造修成的。
12But because that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven, He gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.
12只因我们列祖惹天上的 神发怒， 神把他们交在 迦勒底 人 巴比伦 王 尼布甲尼撒 的手中，他就拆毁这殿，又将百姓掳到 巴比伦 。
13But in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king made a decree to build this house of God.
13然而 巴比伦 王 塞鲁士 元年，他降旨允准建造 神的这殿。
14And the gold and silver vessels also of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;
14神殿中的金、银器皿，就是 尼布甲尼撒 从 耶路撒冷 的殿中掠去带到 巴比伦 庙里的， 塞鲁士 王从 巴比伦 庙里取出来，交给派为省长的，名叫 设巴萨 ，
15and he said unto him: Take these vessels, go, put them in the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in its place.
15对他说可以将这些器皿带去，放在 耶路撒冷 的殿中，在原处建造 神的殿。
16Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundations of the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not completed.
16于是这 设巴萨 来建立 耶路撒冷 神殿的根基。这殿从那时直到如今尚未造成。』
17Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let search be made in the king's treasure-house there, which is at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.'
17现在王若以为美，请察 巴比伦 王的府库，看 塞鲁士 王降旨允准在 耶路撒冷 建造 神的殿没有，王的心意如何？请降旨晓谕我们。」
